    So with Harvard Stadium you said they were featured in the 1906 Olympics. The only 1906 Olympics were the Interclad Olympics in Athens Greece, it was something they tried to do every two years, but realized they couldn’t keep it up. After 1906 they went to a 4 year only model. Now they did have Olympic trials at Harvard Stadium for track and field in 1910 did you mean that? Also in 1984 they played first round Olympic soccer matches at Harvard Stadium. Did you guys mean that also? I agree with a lot of people the AI voices just horrible.

      Thank you for pointing this out and providing additional context about the 1906 Intercalated Games and Harvard Stadium's role in sports history. You are correct that the 1906 Games were an exception and not part of the regular Olympic cycle. As for Harvard Stadium, its involvement in the 1910 Olympic trials and the 1984 Olympic soccer matches is an important detail that deserves recognition. I (with the 🤖) appreciate your insight, and I'll make sure to clarify and provide accurate information moving forward.

    Some mention should be made about the Los Angeles Coliseum, which was the first home of the Dodgers in LA after they moved from Brooklyn in 1958. Though it was only supposed to be a temporary facility until Dodger Stadium opened in 1963, it did host the Dodgers for five years, including its World Championship team in 1959. Games 3-5 of that Series were played at the Coliseum, all setting attendance records for the Fall Classic. In fact, Game Five still has the highest World Series attendance, with 92,706 fans pouring into the Coliseum, hoping their second-year team would close out the Series. They would leave disappointed as the visiting Chicago White Sox would win that game, forcing a Game Six back at Comiskey Park in Chicago (where the Dodgers would clinch the Series two days later). The LA Coliseum had already served as the main stadium for the 1932 Summer Olympics and would go to host Super Bowl I in 1967. Further, preparations are underway for the Coliseum to be the main stadium for the 2028 Summer Olympics, its third go-around with the Olympics.

    Oakland Coliseum... that's interesting, because as I recall it definitely hosted its last game. To think, that would move Coors Field onto the list as of next year, and 11th would be the freaking Trop. THAT I am not sure if they're playing ball there again either, but if the county has to make repairs under the contract, I feel like they'll go back there regardless of if they intend to go elsewhere.

    • @gamearenas
      @gamearenas 13 дней назад

      You've got us thinking now! 😂 You're absolutely right about the Oakland Coliseum, and you've figured out all our math correctly! I guess we need to rewrite the list for the next year, with the potential addition of Coors, and Tropicana moving down one! We didn't consider the county's obligations, but that's a very good point. Great comment, thank you for watching! 😉

    Tropicana Field opened in 1990 and has the distinction of being the last multipurpose stadium built

    • @gamearenas
      @gamearenas 13 дней назад

      That's a great piece of stadium history; thanks for sharing that! You're right that Tropicana Field has the distinction of being the last large multi-purpose stadium built. While our video focused on the oldest MLB venues, it’s a really cool piece of baseball history that it was also the last of its kind. It actually opened in 1990, but for MLB games it wasn't until 1998, when the Devil Rays started playing there. We appreciate you sharing that! 👍

    • @martyswild
      @martyswild 5 дней назад

      And that is why it is such a much-maligned ballpark now. Had it opened in 1990 as an MLB venue, it would have been considered state-of-the-art. However, by the time it finally got a team in 1998, stadium trends-and retractable roof technology-had already moved past the fixed roof and concrete donut design. Even Tampa’s expansion brothers, the Diamondbacks, debuted their team with a ballpark that featured a retractable roof. Between 1991 and 1998, five new ballparks were built, and within 10 years of Tropicana Field’s opening for baseball, 11 multipurpose donuts had been replaced by retro, classic, or retro-modern ballparks. It’s worth noting that Tropicana Field was not the final fixed-roof stadium. That distinction belongs to the Georgia Dome, built in 1992, though even it has since been replaced by the world-class engineering marvel, Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

      Thanks for that insightful comment! You’re right that there are just a few MLB venues that have had another sport co-tennant, historically. The “few” comment at 4:57 was mainly in reference to how the concept of multipurpose arenas was at one point very popular, and we wanted to highlight that these older stadiums are specifically baseball only. We appreciate the detailed knowledge, and you've given us something to think about for future videos! Thanks for your comment! 🙏

      Probably because it was built in 1950s and not where OSU plays games regularly since 1998 (there are many schools which still have their older gyms on campus even if they no longer play in them regularly, so guess based on where teams play/list as their home courts)

      That's a great call out; St. John Arena definitely has a significant place in basketball history, and we know many fans cherish it. However, our criteria for this video were focused on arenas that are both old and currently the primary active venues for college basketball teams. We appreciate you bringing up St John's and maybe we can do a video about all the old inactive arenas soon!

      @@gamearenas Here's a few to get you started. All of these are still in active use by their university athletic departments for other sports, but no longer for men's basketball: Stanford Pavilion (1922) - still used for gymnastics, wrestling, and men's volleyball (now called Burnham Pavilion). Basketball moved to Maples Pavilion in 1968. Yost Field House (1923) - still used by Michigan for hockey (now known as Yost Ice Arena). Basketball moved to Crisler Arena in 1967. Huff Gymnasium (1925) - still used by Illinois for volleyball and wrestling (now called Huff Hall). Basketball moved to Assembly Hall (State Farm Center) in 1963. McCasland Field House (1928) - still used by Oklahoma for volleyball and wrestling. Basketball moved to Lloyd Noble Center in 1975. Rec Hall (1929) - still used by Penn State for gymnastics, volleyball, and wrestling. Basketball moved to Bryce Jordan Center in 1996. Gregory Gymnasium (1930) - still used by Texas for volleyball. Basketball moved to Erwin Center in 1977 and later to Moody Center in 2022. Wisconsin Field House (1930) - still used for volleyball and wrestling. Basketball moved to Kohl Center in 1998. And here's a few more (all pre-1930) that are still standing, but no longer in use as athletic facilities. There are probably others, these are just the ones I know of off the top of my head: Red Gym - Wisconsin (1894) - now offices for various campus departments Minnesota Armory (1896) - still used by the ROTC program Armory - New Mexico State (1911) - now used by the music department & connected to the larger Music Center Men's Gymnasium (1917) & Bill Garrett Fieldhouse (1928) - Indiana - now a campus recreation complex Carlson Gym - Colorado (1924) - now a recreation facility & offices Bear Down Gym - Arizona (1926) - now a recreation facility & offices (famously used as a filming location for "Revenge of the Nerds"). South College Gym - Colorado State (1926) - now a track & field practice facility, no longer hosts competitions Iowa Field House (1927) - now a campus recreation center Carlisle Gym - New Mexico (1928) - now used by the dance department

      @gamearenas My Grandfather had season tickets for years in section JJ row 55, above us and two sections to the right was KK, at the top of the Stadium was a big iron plate secured to section KK & L with long bolts drilled into the concrete facade, the stadium was built with the east side built on the side of a hill, while the West side was built up by a superstructure facade that held up about the last 46 rows (as the first 30 rows were underground. Those two sections kk & L were separated by almost 2 feet at the top of the Stadium by the Hayward earthquake fault. In 2010 the interior of the Stadium was gutted and rebuilt to today's earthquake standards. What a difference $321M did! They kept the facade of the old stadium, but it's all new everywhere else. We even have metal benches now!
