I spent too long trying to change the thumbnail on my already uploaded youtube short with no success. So I took to Google with no success. Everyone said it was impossible, but I was determined. Now I'm sharing it with all of you. I hope someone finds this helpful.

You should turn this into a Short So crazy this isn't in YT Studio. What are they THINKING?!?! Google-Tier UI/UX
It does not give me the pencil or the option to edit. Been looking for a way for a while now. I see this was uploaded only 4 months ago. They must have changed something for what ever reason... By chance are you a paid member? maybe that is the difference...
I totally understand your frustration. I'm not a paid member. Make sure you're using the regular youtube app. If still not working, update your youtube app and try again. That has been working for others. Also, this only works on phones, not tablets/iPad

Are you using your phone or tablet? A few others in the comments have said it it only works on their phones and not on their tablets/iPads

How about if your short has only one picture or visual and RUclips is asking for you to change the thumbnail. I used only one same photo for the thumbnail so what to change to? Any help?
If your video is already uploaded, your only option is what I show in the video. Selecting a frame from within your youtube short. At the end of my video, I go over briefly how you can add a custom thumbnail to future videos, but to preexisting videos, there's not much you can do. Your channel is still small. You could re-upload the videos you need to change with a few modifications so you can choose a different frame for the thumbnail.

Oh I agree with you 100% on this! Why is it hidden on the RUclips mobile and not in RUclips studio??? Furthermore, why is this option not in the desktop version of studio as well???
