Personally, I think RoP is far more consistent with JRRT's writings and themes than the movies ever were. Still doesn't stop me really enjoying both the movies and the series (Hobbit trilody my least favourite of the 3 as that went way off track on accoasions). Love their portrayal of Galadriel, love the Sauron back story and motivations and acting of Charles Edwards as Celebrimbor, love the Adar/Orc backstory. and Elrond and Durin's friendship for me was the absolute standout of S1. S1 Harfoots were a bit tedious, but in S2 it is entirely obvious where this storyline is going - will be happy to see the establishment of the Shire, and Gandalf's fondness for Hobbits. Gimlii in the movies was a comic side-kick for Legolas and Aragorn - funny, but ..... Great to see some meat on the story of dwarves.

Furthermore, Sauron was taken to Númenór as a prisoner. He rose to a trusted position of chief advisor and everyone knew who he was. The only deception involved was Sauron sowing seeds of distrust in the Valar and painting Morgoth as a savior who would deliver them from their supposed oppression at the hands of the Valar. There are so many events of the Second Age that would've been amazing on screen and from a narrative perspective, but the woke clowns at Amazon shit the bed every single chance they get

The differences between the show and the books is akin to an event you see with your own eyes, which gets burned into your memory and overhearing that event told by the latest gossipmonger in the local mall's food court. Both versions can be highly entertaining, even if the similarities are no more than the bare-bones base. Thats the difference between a book and a tv show. I loved the books and lose a weekend or two from time to time to re-read them. I AM enjoying the series. It took me a couple episodes to become fully engaged, but the visuals still bring me into the setting and I AM looking forward to the next season. It doesn't enrage me when I notice the discrepancies between the two. The one deal breaker for me will be if I see them try to introduce some woke liberal point into the show, like I'm seeing in so much fare these days. If they do that, I'm done. Other than that, I sit back and relax with a cup of coffee and watch the series with the rest of my family. To each their own. All this presentation is doing is showcasing the differences between the 2 forms of media and she's done a good job of it here. Persist, young one. The road goes ever on and on.

People who do mostly either have no critical sense in them whatsoever, and/or they only want to see their bitter agenda served. This is why true fans of Tolkien do not consider this show as cannon. It's just a show that wants to inject modern activist tropes into a classic story in an attempt to legitimize the activist cause rather than to honor the original concepts, concepts that do not necessarily align with the recent direction shift of today's "popular" compass. I would not mind such a show if it was an ORIGINAL work rather than just lazily piggybacking on a classic. I rather dislike Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" trilogy as well for changing the cannon, AZOG IS NOT ALIVE!

Much of what you write is true, but part of the problem was that the producers were strictly limited to the book LOTR and its appendices. They legally are prohibited from using anything in The Silmarillion, or indeed any of Tolkien’s works other than the above mentioned. While the appendices have an outline of events earlier in Tolkien’s world, there’s not a lot to flesh out many characters that are just names in lists and in timelines. As for Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit”, much of the flaws in that trilogy was due to studio executives, who in their greed, insisted on making three movies, based on a book that is much shorter and simpler, than the epic scale of LOTR. Jackson, who really didn’t want to direct that project (there were other directors considered, and one was hired, but then backed out), was left with no real control, and a fraction of the time for pre-production that Jackson had with LOTR. So everything had to be rushed, and they had to try to come up with filler material to get three movies out of one book, which was very different in style than LOTR, even though both works were written by the same author. That’s how we got that monster of a trilogy. The other problem is that Tolkien himself was a perfectionist, and was never satisfied enough with what became The Silmarillion in his lifetime. He never thought it worthy of publishing, and it was only published, along with other works, after his death. Who knows what might have happened had he lived another twenty years. He would probably be surprised at the widespread desire to read and see more of the whole story, which, though mythical, reads like a history, right down to disputes and debates over events that aren’t historical, but are fiction. It’s very hard to ask someone else to take up Tolkien’s work, and somehow add to it, or adapt it. He was the sole creator, and sadly, he has been gone for just over 50 years now, and even his children have all (as far as I know) passed. So it’s incredibly difficult to get “inside” a late author’s head, and see the world as he did (much comes from his experiences of the horrors of the trenches of WWI, where he lost all of the friends of his youth, save one), and also to look at the entire set of works through the mind of a philologist. Plus, there’s the fact that the producers CANNOT use any of Tolkien’s other works, including his letters, where he answers questions of readers Finally, one minor point. The term is “canon”, not “cannon”. The latter is an artillery weapon, the former comes from a word which means rule or law, and in a literary sense, it has to do with a list of the works known to be written by an author. It was probably used first in determining the Biblical canon (which books are considered to be divinely inspired) or, in the Catholic Church, canon law, which is a codex of church law. And unfortunately for the producers of this series, the producers did not have the legal rights to use other parts of Tolkien’s canon. Why this is so, I cannot say, especially as there is a member of the Tolkien family who is a consultant to the production. I don’t know if the producers didn’t want to pay more for access to the rest of Tolkien’s canon, or if the Tolkien family is divided over whether or not to ever sell the rights to adapt the rest of Tolkien’s works. The result are characters that seem one dimensional, largely because Tolkien himself didn’t really develop most of the characters that are often just mentioned in passing in the appendices. Remember, the events of the LOTR happen over just a few years time, with most happening in one calendar year. But this series is trying to tackle events that occur over thousands of years. That’s extremely difficult to do, especially when you have characters like elves who live for centuries, as does Sauron, yet they are interacting with mortal humans, dwarves, hobbits, who aren’t going to live for hundreds of years. Finally, I do think most of the first season was a waste of time. Season two seems to be much better written.

Let's forget everything known about the lore of Tolkien, shall we? You're okay with fast travel? Arondir being six-foot-sword-stabbed in s2e7, then getting up and fighting in s2e8? Halbrand taking stab wounds to the side/gut, desperately needing "elvish medicine", forgetting in a previous episode they said the Elves had no healers, then riding SIX DAYS NON-STOP NO SLEEP ON HORSEBACK? A volcano erupting, taking the flow to the face and waking up the next episode with NOT EVEN SINGED HAIR? I realise I come across as rude. You need to realise precisely what you're admitting to your family and work people liking. You need to realise "people like to troll" is a nonsensical garbage Amazon-PR statement, when you've just admitted to what your family and workpeople have admitted to their brains being incapable of processing.

@@CinemaEnigmaa No. In Appendix F of The Return of the King, he explicitly describes Elves as "fair of skin": Elves has been used to translate both Quendi, ‘the speakers’, the High-elven name of all their kind, and Eldar, the name of the Three Kindreds that sought for the Undying Realm and came there at the beginning of Days (save the Sindar only). This old word was indeed the only one available, and was once fitted to apply to such memories of this people as Men preserved, or to the makings of Men’s minds not wholly dissimilar. But it has been diminished, and to many it may now suggest fancies either pretty or silly, as unlike to the Quendi of old as are butterflies to the swift falcon - not that any of the Quendi ever possessed wings of the body, as unnatural to them as to Men. They were a race high and beautiful, the older Children of the world, and among them the Eldar were as kings, who now are gone: the People of the Great Journey, the People of the Stars. They were tall, fair of skin and grey-eyed, though their locks were dark, save in the golden house of Finarfin; and their voices had more melodies than any mortal voice that now is heard. They were valiant, but the history of those that returned to Middle-earth in exile was grievous; and though it was in far-off days crossed by the fate of the Fathers, their fate is not that of Men. Their dominion passed long ago, and they dwell now beyond the circles of the world, and do not return.

Wow, thanks, and yes, you are absolutely right about this. But as i said in the video, the book was written in 1954, and so they have to restructure it for modern audiences. And to be honest, although I totally see your point, but i find it wrong.

@goodputin4324 I'm not talking about lord of the rings. I believe Peter Jackson did the right amount of everything. My point is the overdoings we see in rings of power.
