I was able to catch a York Railroad (YRC) mixed freight on a windy day in West York, PA. York Railroad is a shortline operation in York County that operates 48 miles of track. Here’s a quick overview video of a recent Amtrak trip from Baltimore to DeLand Florida. Here’s a little yard action at Norfolk Southern’s Danville Kentucky Yard. Nice mix of motive power including AC44C6M, ES44AC and an SD70ACe. The Danville station is not in use but has a great parking lot for train watching. Danville is a crew change point and terminal. Nearby is a Wye and several overpasses for great shots.

Family photos are great, but please don't do this on or near railroad tracks. Trains can move quickly and more silently than you can imagine. These were taken on the very active CSX line in Harper's Ferry, WV.
