ArchInstall: Easy Arch Linux Installer All Fixed?
From Debian wiki: "Do not enable or use transparent filesystem compression with a mount option, nor in fstab, nor with "chattr +c", nor with "btrfs filesystem defrag"."
I am lost, what are you doing and why are you doing this?
I want to use it on my khomePC for stability reason. Is not suitable to scan or install certain extensions on Firefox.
Great video
Stephen, Praying that you and yours are doing OK. Hope to see you again soon.
Are they ever going to port Dragonfly to ARM?
how to bind volume volumes w.r.t sessions or users I tried adding volume and bind mount path...both of didnt worked
Have you tried using snapper-rollback from the AUR? It's supposed to do automatic rollback but on Arch Wiki's suggested layout.
2:32. I also like enabling the verbosepkglist option, so the packages and dependencies list is easier to read during installation. And I like adding "ILoveCandy" as well because I like cool looking pacman animation 😆.
This isn't work at the point you come to dnf.
it necesary create the @root subvol?
I'll tell you what's come a long way, using chrome remote desktop and screen.
Please help me. I am trying to creat an install usb but I am stuck. I generated the checksum and manually compared it and it is the same. I have downloaded the checksum file and GPG which were both 2.8GB (does this sound right?) I tried this and no joy :~$ gpg --verify SHA512SUMS.gpg SHA512SUMS gpg: can't open 'SHA512SUMS.gpg': No such file or directory gpg: verify signatures failed: No such file or directory bp@bp:~$ gpg --recv CDF595A1 gpg: keyserver receive failed: No data bp@bp:~$ gpg --verify EndeavourOS_Endeavour_neo-2024.09.22.iso.sig
I love the start here. Installing Linux root on ZFS, pretty exciting, definitely not the words I want to hear for something that could be a daily driver but with the hot mess of drives I have collected it sounds attractive
Hi Stephen! Is this still applicable to the latest fresh install of Fedora 41? Thank you
Excellent as always. Thanks!
Greetings, I already installed. openSuse Tumbleweed x86_64, Kernel 6.11.8-1-shell default: bash 5.2.37. The program works well. I installed and configured an Epson L355 multifunction printer, but it was only possible locally, via USB cable, but it cannot be located remotely. What changes would you recommend to solve this problem? I understand that modifications must be made to Yast Firewall. Thank you for your help.
Hope all is ok and you’ll be back soon
why did you reboot after installing xorg? couldnt you manually start the daemons and statrx from there?
Linux Mint Debian Edition 6: Bookworm for Beginners? I'm 70 years old and have been around computers for 40 years. I'm an OS Agnostic - which means I am familiar and comfortable with a variety of Operating systems inc Mac / Windows / Linux etc. I have a chuckle when I read terms such as 'beginners' distro. When you reach my age - you quickly realize two important things - 1. We are all beginners - no matter how much experience we have in life or with operating systems. 2. At 70 - time is more precious than spending a ton of time mucking around with distros. So people can label it simple of for beginners - I don't care - I just want to run something that is solid - reliable and lets me get on with my life. Time is most precious to me.
Thank you
Thank you
So much
Can just use `su` "switch user" to switch to root as it's the same as doing `sudo -s`. Could also do `su root` but since `su` without arguments defaults to `su root` it's just redundant. Loved the video. Really helped a lot. P.S. Please breathe through your nose. It not only allows you to not make so much noise in the audio so you don't have to clean it up but it's better for your health to breathe through your nose.
Great video, very concise and well done. Any plans for another similar ArchInstall in a future video with any updates? Thanks for your time!
Useful indeed. Thank you so much for taking the time to make the video and share the information. Nice!
Thank you
so much
Thank you very much, excellent video, to the point, well explained, very professional.
Been running OPEN SUSE for a while now-- and it has turned out to be THE most stable distro I ever tried.... hands down. THANKS for this customizing video...
It's actually impossible to install Arch without the automated Archinstall utility, manual installation always bugs out on the package signatures.
Thank you . I have been using it for a long time. It's wonderful. I don't know why people do not try. It's just little knowledge about partitioning and after that all it's needed knowledge about yast. I think most powerful system manager.
Не знаю почему, но способ перестал работать
Hi , I have a little problem, if my server haven't a monitor then I can't connect to it by client. I mean connection will close. What should I do? What should I do ?
I have fedora 38 ,I install xrdp server and connect to it by Ubuntu remmina. It works as both have separate monitors but as I remove server's monitor connection will close
/var/lib not getting rolled back causes issues with the pacman database. After a rollback, pacman still thinks the now-missing apps are still installed. On my system anyway... But still you have some of the best videos to learn with!
Can I do the same for open SUSE ?
This is FANTASTIC.
Honestly, this is truly the best Linux video I've ever watched. THANK YOU!
I used lynis to test my OpenSuse Aeon. I got a hardening score of 87.
Slight correction. @21:32 "C" is for cookie! 😂😂 Thanks for the walkthrough on this!! Still valuable 2 years later!!!
Hey Stephen, your channel has helped me a lot on my journey into the Gnu/Linux world. I faced the "monster" Arch Linux and today it is my main system where I feel most comfortable and with convenient tools. But I am really interested in NixOS, but something I can't find easily is installing it with btrfs with a good layout of solubvolumes, bootable snapshots, etc. Do you plan to make a video about this in the future?
I am doing something similar except with Raspberry Pi's and ThinLinc works very well with Linux Mint, great video!
Stephen, another great tutorial. Thanks.
Which one doesn't break Arch or tumbleweed
Both break, frequently. TW just has snapper and bootable snapshots ootb.
Tumbleweed it's the most stable rolling release
At 3:41 you didn't set passwd for root as you said you don't want to have a root account, just the Stephen then how did you get into root at 11:55 by doing sudo -s 🤷 could you please explain this to be, I'm trying to learn as much as possible about Linux
would it be a good idea to set zstd compression to a high level during system install and then set it down to fast level?! ...
Thank you once again Stephen. I have followed your adventures with Arch, Fedora WS and Silverblue, but now I am stuck on Tumbleweed Gnome. <sudo reboot> goes to openSUSE Tumbleweed terminal login, but it doesn't respond to input. I have to hard boot. How do I troubleshoot? Thank you.

Found a gist by imthenachoman reporting how to modify apt.conf.d/80snapper to include the full apt command as the snapshot description. Didn't test yet, but seems ok.
or this shit works via internet or only local network
Installing arch on QubesOS as Standalone VM video would be appreciated. ☺️ No template!!!! I did install succesfully Manjaro and Cachy and Endeavour but could not arch vanilla.😢
This kinda reminds me of Bedrock Linux. Great video though, just maybe work on the green screen.
