Plz do an ILR history 2000-present bcuz I wanna finnish my ILR history presentation
This is (sort of) covered from 16:17 in this video. I am currently working on something for 2025 that will take a long time to research and produce. Only once that is done will I move on to the next project.
UTV: I AINT GOING NOWHERE
Friday 1st January 1993 and the peel of the bells from the Cryer in London sounding the death knell of the beginning of the end of the great ITV & its regions.
I'm not sure if having an upbeat sounding newsreader on Kiss105 in Leeds on the day of Diana, Princess of Wales and then following it with a rave track called "Sweet Sensation" possibly did for them in Yorkshire! Because Galaxy 105 came not long after. 🤔
Kiss was replaced in London on FM a few weeks ago by Hits. It is now digital only.
@@tvradiotimelines Same up here.
I must be getting on in years, I thought Classic FM began in 90/91 I didn't remember it was 1992! 🤭 I did remember however the arrival of Classic FM made my favourite pirate radio station in Sheffield, Fantasy FM 101.9 move frequency to 105ish MHz, although they did sample the Birdsong test transmission to take the mickey, "I don't wanna hear birds tweeting, I wanna listen to Fantasy FM!" 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
It's a shame that COVID removed specialist music shows from BBC Local Radio especially Richard Searling's Northern Soul show on BBC Radio Manchester, Stoke, etc. Then a young upstart from BBC HQ ruins local radio for good in 2023. Digital First my a**e!! 👎
I was relieved that you didn't play that annoying song about the national radio frequency changes by The Kings Singers! 😉🤭🤣
I was sorely tempted, believe me - just because it IS so irritating!
@@tvradiotimelines So glad you didn't. 🤣
Wow! Those ident themes made for Radio's Sheffield & Leeds by the Radiophonic Workshop, hardly their finest work! 🤣
Just wondering why the launches of Radios 1 & 2 were played before the closure of the Home Service clip? Also wondering why the clip of Roger Moffatt closing the Light Programme is missing? 🤔
I read somewhere that Alan West of RNI couldn't remember the firebombing incident when asked by a passer-by fan one day. Amazing sometimes what the psyche can do to help you blot out bad memories, if this was the case. 🤔
I bet it was a great bit of irony for Caroline to be given a former BBC frequency when finally legal? 🤭
OMG, Thanks for Creating my Requested Video :)
You are most welcome!
sometimes i cone back to this video and guess the franchises by the jingle, ive been getting pretty good
👍☺
14:07 Shhh…. don’t let them know what happened to Radio Veronica..
Ha ha! Technically Veronica did not broadcast to the UK (despite a large audience) whilst RNI did.
Radio Veronica shut down in August 1974, but a year later some of the staff started 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚 Omroep Organisatie as a public broadcaster. Veronica technically exists as a company called Vereniging Veronica.
@@MijiBertie791 Thanks for the info! At least YOU'VE let them know what happened to Radio Veronica! 😄
Great video
Thanks for saying so - makes a nice change to the "you got this wrong" ones! 🙂
ITV 2 ITV 3 ITV 4 ITVX ITV Be CITV Plus GBreeze Good Morning Britain ITV Box Office ITV Hub ITV Sport Channel ITV News Channel ITV Play UTV Ireland STV2 you frogot
Except that this video is about the history of the disparate ITV REGIONS and the way that they evolved into (eventually) ITV1. Because of that, I decided to end the video when they all merged into ITV1/STV/UTV
Do a cbs television timeline
I will add it to the list but realistically my main focus is on the UK.
Is the LBC voice Mike Mendoza
I really don't have that information - sorry!
James 🐋 Whale Was King 👑 Of UK Radio In 94 Before And Beyond 🎉
Someone else stole your video
?????
The most beautiful soundtrack is that of RAI 🇮🇹: it is the music of the romance "Tutto cangia il ciel s'abbella" from the opera "Guglielmo Tell" by Gioacchino Rossini
It really is powerful!
Do next america
I will add it to the (LONG) list but my main focus remains the UK
I guess commercial radio is like ITV but with MORE choice
I guess it depends on your definition of "choice". Radio - like TV - has been all but consumed by larger groups with a few honourable exceptions.
What's the music for BBC General Forces Programme?
It is called "Imperial Echoes". More here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Echoes
Song at 17:23 to 17:28 is: ruclips.net/video/4i702JOLlek/видео.html
Can you help me find the logos please?
Sorry for the delay in responding. I have been travelling and only got back to the UK today. I am sorry too that I do not really understand your question: what logos do you want me to help you find???
Music at 07:10 was originally the theme to The Big Match - aka "Jubilation" by Jeff Wayne.
Sorry for the delayed response. I have been travelling and only returned to the k today. That is fascinating info: it really DOES sound like a theme for a sports show!
Also used by Granada for their version Match Time and also as probably known on BBC Reporting Scotland hence the use during the mention on Radio Scotland
Any Idea why the BBC Radio stations in the early 20's were named that?
I believe it is descended from when pre speech wireless stations used a unique morse code identifier. A short 3 character code that could be easily transmitted in Morse transferred to the early days of speech radio.
BBC Wiltshire Sound had a tricky competitor that was commercial Wiltshire Radio - soon merged with Radio West to form GWR. Now Heart. BBC Radio Wiltshire continues to thrive.
Sorry for the delayed reply: I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. Thanks for the info and feebakc. Much appreciated!
Needs updating for the Hits Radio take over of stations like Lincs FM
If I updated every time a station changed to "Hits/Greatest hits" branding, I would have to do a weekly update!
Same three times in this jingle at this minute 3:50 to #BBCRadioCarlisle, the major name change of the 80's at #BBCRadioCumbria. Sorry to say this but i'm starting to obsess, over this jingle it's still great. ❤️🤗😘
Sorry for the delay in responding; I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. It is nice to be joined by a fellow obsessive!!! 🤣
@@tvradiotimelinesBy the way put episodes, from other radio stations if you have time. I appreciate it very much i congratulate, you from the bottom of my heart with everything you do! 🤗😘❤️
@@FlorentaMarina Thank you!
And jingles are repeated which i like very much, even twice #BBCRadioCarlisle to the minutes: 6:05 and 10:31. Great Jingle! ❤️🤗😘
Sorry for the delay in responding; I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. Yes - there seems to have been quite a bit of "sharing"going on!
@@tvradiotimelinesNo problem but it looks like, you've been on vacation. 👋❤️😘🤗

TiNeline?
Oh bugger!!!! 😂Thanks for pointing that out - you seem to be the only one to have noticed. Now changed! (Sorry for the delay in responding; I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today).
@@tvradiotimelines That's OK. I started watching one of your videos and ended up watching the rest!
@@MarkFraserWeather That's good to know. I hope you enjoyed them!
@@MarkFraserWeather Good to hear! I hope you enjoyed them.
Interestingly, during the war all of the transmitter masts switched to the same two or three frequencies throughout the whole country so that enemy aircraft could not use regional radio frequencies as homing beacons.
Sorry for the delayed response, I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today, Thanks for the feedback - fascinating!
THIS IS 2LO!
"This is Radio Norfolk. You're listening to Up With the Partridge!"
It’s amazing how most of the Eastern Block had television before Ireland did. Some parts of Ireland could get British channels but for people in the likes of the West of Ireland, they couldn’t receive television until (in some cases) not until 1963 (not unless they erected a tall aerial on top of a farm shed or something which requires cables like a mast to support it)
Sorry for the delayed reply: I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. I remember living in West Wales in the late 1950s/early 1960s and the situation was not entirely dissimilar there either.
Bizarre start to BBC Radio Solway - sounding like you’re listening to a telephone - then announcing itself as BBC Radio Tweed, before hastily correcting himself!
Sorry for the delayed reply: I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. Re your comment: apparently, the BBC DG was standing in the next room when it happened (and believe it or not this is the best quality recording the BBC seems to have!)!
The Old Radio 1 MW is now home to Talksport.
Another great content , very informative. Regards mark
Sorry for the delayed reply: I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. THanks for the kind words - much appreciated!
All now destroyed
Also Viking FM/Hits Radio East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire now comes from Leeds and has done for the past couple of years, and you missed out Pulse 1/Hits Radio West Yorkshire from the Hits Radio list too
Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated!
And the one commercial station that wiped the floor? Laser558.... changed everything.
...and you can find it on my UK Offshore Radio Timeleine at ruclips.net/video/VfMjTMz7a7w/видео.html
My BBC Local at 02:17
I think you forgot the super station overnight of any ILR stations en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Superstation
Sorry for the slightly delayed reply: I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. I thought long and hard about that but decided that, as it was a sustaining overnight service, only the actual "rebroadcasting" station should be included.
You forgot Lincolnshire’s 06 rebrand
Sorry for the slightly delayed reply: I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. Thanks for the feedback. As far as rebrands are concerned, I have only included these where the actual station name changes rather than just a change in their logos.
Are they the Logos?
Sorry for the slightly delayed response: I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. As I mentioned in the notes at the end of the video, the BBC was slow to adopt audio and/or visual idents. In the absence of original material, some of the idents in this presentation have been created purely for illustrative purposes. They are, however, based on material from the time (e.g. the BBC main logo, some printed advertising promotion, children's club badges, etc) but they are not all "genuine" as such.
Love these vids, and working my way through them. What would be great to see (for the BBC particularly) is the transmitter sites and technology rollout. LF,MF&VHF.
Apologies for the delayed response - I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. Re your comment: I agree but the complexities of trying to research that slightly scare me! 😵💫

those british callsigns is similar to australian callsigns
Hi, call signs were issued had a m or g within the Uk, same for radio Hams , thus was a world ad all countries had there own letter . Regards mark G8rde
Apologies for the delayed response - I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. That is interesting: I guess much was similar in the very early days.
