What's more painful during the song the underworld was that the voice of Odysseus mom is the mom of Jorge a.k.a. Odysseus himself

Also, "Fun fact" on the Odyssey, (Never trust a winion who says that) Odysseus' Mom drowns herself i believe when the wind bag is opened, she saw the storm and effectively gave up hope and died because she thought the only way she'd see him again is by doing that. So when the bag was opened, it (through a lot of oversimplification) killed his mom. My memory on details are sketchy, so if anyone wants to add to or correct me, please do.

So it was only him who knows that their only way home is through Scylla. That is why he said, "Eurylochus, light up 6 storches" in the song Scylla, because he couldn't choose which 6 men to sacrifice (1 for each of Scylla's heads). That's why in Mutiny when Eury asked him, he answered, "I can't!" It was a choice between Charybdis (the whole boat) or Scylla (6 men).

Lol it's funny you mentioned Hadestown. A friend of mine introduced to the soundtrack 2 weeks ago and got me hooked on it. After finishing it, I was reminded of a musical project that was going to focus on 'The Odyssey'. Imagine my surprise when said project turned out to be finished. I've been switching between listening to Hadestown and Epic because of the emotional rollercoaster. That and I"m a sucker for Greek Mythology.

Oh no the whole thing about Polites makes absolute sense, he was Odysseus' morality of trust in people, that got him killed by Polyphemus but Posidon is the side of ruthlessness which is why it always feels like he's there throughout the whole musical (or atleast is does for me). In the book from Homer, the gods are just playing with him by throwing all the evil at him cause they're bored. But in this, it explores his morality and humanity.

Oh Polities “Open arms part” is gonna show up several more times, and it’s gonna become increasingly more contrasting. There is a definite evolution in the meaning of that sentence for Odysseus

Fun fact- in Greek mythology when a person dies they need to have coins placed on their eyes so that they can pay the ferryman and move on to the afterlife, otherwise they're sort of just... stuck. So all the soldiers thus far who have died, the men in Polyphemus cave and the men Poseidon drowned, weren't properly put to rest so they're all just stuck now. Absolutely adore all your writing analysis moments and teaching moments between the reactions, they're so fun. My favorite part of the Thunder Bringer Saga (Aka The Karma Sucks Eurylocus Saga) is that Odysseus switches to 'I must become the monster and then i'll make it home' and the crew is so behind him for it, not realizing that him becoming Ruthless includes them as well.
