Just like if they argued that he's way catchier and dancier and has more of a club-like pulse, or whatever. I dunno, I don't like that type of music myself. But their arguments are just as "valid" in proving that Justin Beiber is better than Protest, that is to say, not at all for anyone but the individual himself.

I'd agree they're good, but I wouldn't say that you can say they're "objectively" good. Complexity isn't the end all of talent. Again, I think they're talent, but the very fact that the guy above you exists is proof that their goodness isn't objective. You really can't definitively say he's wrong. His opinion is valid, same as all opinions on music. If someone likes Justin Beiber better, pointing out time signatures and arpeggios will mean diddly squat if that's not why they listen to music.
