Просмотров 27110 месяцев назад
FINALLY! This video explains basic 3v3 race strategy. This video is a MUST WATCH for team racers. At :45, I meant to say STABLE. Stable = a good combo Balanced refers to boat positioning I will complete the 2v2 unit at a later date.

Sailing Team Race Lecture #22: 2v2 First Beat Tips
Просмотров 153Год назад
Here is some advice for strong first beats in 2v2 team racing. I made this primarily from the boat starter's perspective as that was my job in college.
Sailing Team Race Lecture #21: 2v2 Starting
Просмотров 181Год назад
Today we are discussing how to execute a solid "hybrid" 2v2 start. One note: if the pin pair is locked at the boat, you must call a "switch" and go to leeward of them, becoming the pin starter.
Sailing Team Race Lecture #20: Pig in the Back / "Double Team"
Просмотров 54Год назад
Today we will talk about pig in the back or the "double team", or "two boats slowing 1 boat" and some potential applications. Double team ONLY refers to pig in the back with teammates in 1-2 and the pig in the 3 On the upwind, Pig in the Back double teams happen with a slower and Pinner. On the reach and run it allows you to bump with extra aggression knowing you have someone in front to help y...
Sailing Team Race Lecture #19: Pig in the Front
Просмотров 65Год назад
Today we will go over what to do when 2 boats try to pass 1 boat. We will describe some techniques that work on the reach, upwind, and run, as well as how to defend against 2 boats trying to pass you. Techniques covered Downwind - High Low - Wall - Inverted High Low Reach -High Low Upwind - Hard split - Tacking duel
Sailing Team Race Lecture #18: Upwind Passbacks
Просмотров 111Год назад
These are a few upwind passbacks. Remember, if you have a boat behind you, stick to them like glue! No matter what! They are YOUR responsibility. As the pig, avoid the beginner mistake of tacking away from a passback. You need to stay there and pin the 3. Especially with front door passbacks, this can make them take a really long time, which will help out your other 2 teammates!!
Sailing Team Race Lecture #17: Reach Passbacks
Просмотров 51Год назад
Today we will learn about basic reach passbacks as well as dealing with passbacks when the pig and 3 are overlapped. It is very important the 3 does not get hooked to leeward. Once the 2 is hooked by the 1, the 3 just needs to sail fast.
Sailing Team Race Lecture #16: Downwind Passbacks

Here we will introduce the two types of downwind passbacks as well as some ways to be a good pig.
Sailing Team Race Lecture #15: Pig in the Middle & Intro to Passbacks
Просмотров 121Год назад
Welcome to our first 3-boat video. We will be learning about passbacks which is when a boat in the 1 slows an opponent in the 2 to let their teammate in the 3 pass both of them to become the new 1. Pig in the middle is a continuous, self resetting drill to practice passbacks.

Sailing Team Racing Lecture #12: Mark 2 Traps

These are a few examples of mark 2 traps. Remember as the pusher we must fishtail and avoid a close & solid overlap. As the rapper we need to get that. Either send the pusher to leeward of mark 2 or get a hook.

470 Sailing in Miami with Some Guy I Met in the Parking Lot
Nicely done video and very helpful! I spent a lot of hours on that river as a student/sailor at MIT, and it was great to see the Charles again.
Thanks Chuck. I look back on my time at BU very fondly as well, and I miss sailing on the river a lot. Cheers from Miami!
Nice correction to avoid over healing windward!
If I am the pig and I pass the other two boats and they are right on my tail, should I try to stop them from passing me, or should I keep my course? I haven’t team races before but I really wanna try it. I know that a lot of times people will get so close to your stern that you can’t tack without hitting them. How should I prevent it or escape them?
Hey, thanks for your question! If you are doing the drill, and the pig passes the other boats, the "pig" is now the "1" and the teams reset. Now the boat in second becomes the pig, and you become teammates with the boat in the "3" or in last. If someone is on your hip and "pinning" you as you described, it's a good idea to sail a little closer to the wind than you otherwise would to "pinch them off" and force them to tack away first.
Great content
Keep up the good work!
Like- well ~ later, Micky- 😌
Hey Micky it’s Gabe from cohaset yacht club. Good to see you. Could you make a video on team racing and some techniques and moves that you have learned. Thank you Gabriel Sweeney
Hey Gabe, great to hear from you. Check out my latest videos. I'm making a whole lecture series about team racing, so let me know if there's any topics you'd like to learn about!
Yo, dont feed the foot of the main into the boom slot. Else nice video.
Good tutorial. Nice to see someone explain setting the mast rake. My i420 came with a bunch of mast blocks that I imagine I'll use if the rake is way out
Hey Kevin, glad you like it! The mast chocks are used to regulate the mast bend and prevent excessive overland at the base. Please let me know if you'd like me to make a video!
cool but you definitely don't want to let of jib tension to go rake further back you should drop a half a pin down and still have about 29 tension
Amazing. I subbed see u Wednesday 😈
The thumping beat in the background is annoying.
Finally somebody make an in depth video on rigging a 420. I'm on a Sailing 101 course and they just show you how its done. But they don't show you the best way. Now I know how to best rig my boat. Thank you.
Glad you won't be starving this summer. I agree your college sailing has progressed...seems like beginning a Rose Bowl and the last couple of weekends on the Charles. I'll be there to watch this week. Hopefully you can stay out of the water. It's gotta be cold.
So glad you are graduating college. Keep living the dream! Love, Mom
Great to see you back!
Thanks for the helpful video! A video on starts would be a massive help!
i sail now, but not with my own boat and compete in competitions, what's the next step to try and get into the Olympic team
I would look into Olympic class boats (470, 49er, Laser, Nacra 17, windsurf, kitesurfing) and see which you are the right size for. What do you currently sail?
Thank you so much for this Micky! (To be clear this is from Lili Brennan). Such an awesome weekend I can’t wait for Rose Bowl! Im on winter break right now and i get the eagerness to get back on the water. I got a bunch of sailing stuff for Christmas and I can’t wait to put it to use!!! A suggestion to help grow the channel is if you don’t already have one get a TikTok account and post there as well. I might be wrong but I’ve seen a lot of people grow a community off of there (I also feel like there’s a lack of high school and collage sailing content on there). The content you post now about your experiences is pretty much the videos I’m most intrigued by when I look for sailing stuff on RUclips and other medias. However more specifically it’d be sick to see a video on mindset when sailing because that was a huge takeaway for me and a more in depth video on workouts and nutrition would be cool because it could apply to plenty of people. So yeah! I’m super hyped to get back sailing thanks for coaching me and making these videos!
Had a great time coaching you! I will definitely start working on a few of those video ideas.
Loved the video as always but you may want to go easy on the word extreme. When the wind starts piping and the seas get angry, you may run out of appropriate adjectives.
Go fast, win big!! 🤩🤩🤩

lil pizza music videos
What would you like to see next??
Funny, I don't remember ever telling you you couldn't do anything. Maybe I just didn't want you to eat my half of the pizza. It's truly sad that in addition to all the demands of sailing, you have to deal with everything else. Maybe we can come up with some solutions to these problems.
Haha, that makes more sense. I still ate it!

It's always the guy in the parking lot that you've never sailed with that is a God and you make a perfect team
