Jesse Myers

Добавлен 21 июл 2014
I'm Jesse Myers, a Seattle based pianist and teacher, and I created this channel several years ago to share recordings of the music I perform. While this was the initial intent, the coronavirus of 2020 led me to change and broaden the focus of my channel's content.
I will cover important topics in learning and performing piano music such as:
-How to practice various topics efficiently
-How to improve your technique
-Walkthroughs of important classical piano pieces
-Tips for recording and performing
-and more
I've performed and taught throughout the U.S. as a soloist with residencies, masterclasses and guest performances at universities, conservatories and music festivals. I can trace my teachers' lineage to Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt,, and I want to share these nuggets of wisdom with you.

Kaley Lane Eaton and I discuss FREE, her new work for piano and electronics
Premieres on Wednesday, 7/1/2020, at 8pm on Kaley's Channel: ruclips.net/video/TMaIZ72tRHo/видео.html
FREE is a work for solo and piano and live electronics inspired by Shoshana Zuboff's "The Age of Surveillance Capitalism". The electronics are built around a pitch-following sine wave that attempts to mimic the piano, to no avail, resulting in a strange human-computer counterpoint.

Bartok's Allegro Barbaro: Initial walkthrough for students
Просмотров 9904 года назад
During the pandemic I started creating walkthroughs of pieces for my students. These are raw, unedited videos from a pianist's standpoint of what to observe and be mindful of before beginning to work on these pieces. These are not intended to be perfect examples, ready to be recorded, by any means. This is essentially a replacement of what it's like to have me introduce a piece to a student in ...

How to practice trills: variability in speed and greater control

I was asked how to get better tone in the trill passage of Grieg's Notturno, from his set of Lyric Pieces. "How can I add expressiveness to them, so it doesn't sound like an extended jack hammer?"
Must Know Techniques: Arpeggios

This video is about arpeggio piano technique: How technique changes as tempo changes and parallel wrist movement. I include slowed down clips of LH and RH alone arpeggios as well as suggest a new way of practicing various chord shapes in a session.

Jesse Myers Piano Studio Youth Recital highlights 2016
I love this piece. Very close to how I would play it. Nice!

brilliant!!!!
this is real
is music for locos
Did John Cage do extensive study of how this or that thing sounded while on the strings?
Fantastic video. I'd love to see more, I hope this message finds you well.
Cool introduction to this piece and the prepared piano, thanks.
When i was studying music in college, our professor gave us a 90 minute recital with a prepared piano. It was the hardest thing i had to do there😂
3:41 sonata ll
Hey, I stumbled upon your video a while later but it really helped me understanding better the instrument. I have a question and maybe you're still checking old comments so I give it a shot : For the piece I'm currently learning I have to play a 9 white keys gap at the same time (A E C basically) with the left hand. I play the A with my 5, the E with my 2 and C with my 1 while rotating my wrist inwards like you showed in the video. I can play this keys consecutively without letting go of the A fairly easily, however I have to play them at the same time, like a chord. And I really can't do it consistently, I often hit a wrong key with either my 1 or 5. Do you have any exercise that could help me reach without holding one or more keys before the actual reach ? Thank you very much
Amazing chord in the middle and short melody . This one rocks
John Cage was a great man!
This brilliant hand/wrist forearm position made 11's easier than 10th's. Will take some practice though, thanks!
Very convincing interpretation

Thanks for your help. My hands are smaller than yours and still struggle with the 10ths, but there are nuggets of golden knowledge in your video.
Great works done! Thanks for sharing your music

Now, this is creativity at totally a new level, it is not just different, it is a complete transformation of the instrument!
so good...
I have just recently been exploring the music of John Luther Adams. So much of it seems to be inspired by the strange, wild beauty of the Earth. This is certainly an example of that. And your performance of this piece has the feeling of nunataks as he described them in your citation. Beautiful! And a reminder of the crumbling of glaciers that is going on more and more with the climate change of our time, a climate change that I, in southern Oregon, have been experiencing with the way the west coast of North America has gone on fire intensely in the summer and early autumn over the last few years.
This will always be relaxing 😌
Fucking amazing! The manipulation of the instrument made this version so palpable! ❤️💔💯
Is this music!?
It's not a giraffe. It's also not a shoe. This much I'm certain of... I think.
Tone, rhythm, timbre. Yes, this is music.
Love Sonata 5 at 14:50 . Thank you for performing this piece.
what thank for, like if he could've omitted apparently threre is a book with all sonatas in line, so he played them all
Excellent version and performance. Piano preparation pretty similar in sound to the Joshua Pierce 1975 Wergo's version
So beautiful

The most unbelievable pile of crap I have ever heard! You people really need to go back and listen to composers like Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Wagner to get back in touch with what real great music is.
“You people”…
@@jessemyerspiano This is why we can't have nice things. Wonderful performance and recording.
Thank you so much! I started learning piano in retirement & am working on Moonlight Sonata - I’ve been having some forearm pain. I now see what I’ve been doing! THANKS!!!
a real toe tapper
Thanks for the in depth video! Came across while struggling to get used to playing 10ths in New Orleans style blues, will see if this helps!
Glorious work of imaginative and sensitive personality! Your performance is excellent and reveals all the superb quality of this fantastic work. Especially extraordinary rhythm and tempo feeling. Sonatas and Interludes are so complex and somehow natural in that case. Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to listen and to mention rhythm and tempo. It's easy to focus on the obvious timbre and preparation effects, but rhythm and tempo is the cornerstone of the whole work.
When i first listened to this i really didn't think i'd hear more than 5 minutes, but i actually ended up listening to the whole video. It's surprisingly good.
Thanks for taking the time to listen.
I hate to sound dumb but I really don’t get the appeal of this
I get it, it’s pretty weird and esoteric. But there are many reasons that are appealing to me. The instrument I’ve played my whole life can be modified into something unrecognizable as a piano- a rediscovery of the instrument.
it's used in movie soundtracks. you'll know it when you hear it. as for John Cage's composition though... you can checkout Hauschka's recordings
Thank you so much for the unique way to explain variety Arpeggios. Love it!
2021 and these sonatas and interludes still sound fresh! I was moved by your tenderness, Sir.
what an idiot composer dude
Or his intelligence and ingenuity exceed your ability to appreciate something outside your preconceived ideas of what you deem aesthetically pleasing.
@@jessemyerspiano you sound like a pseudo intellectual high school band student 😔
@@johannesgutenburg9837 I'm so ashamed. Thank you for revealing this to me. I'll try to do better next time at conforming to your expectations.

great thank you
This might be my fav piece of the composer's music. I find it fit for a cocktail party or a wake. You do well here. I swear Etude 2 could chart as a single in the US and Europe.
Thanks for listening. Looking back, I'm kind of surprised I played it that slowly at this concert. I seem to remember the piano having a tone or action issue going on in the middle register where the left hand spends most of its time. I think I slowed it down to manage that. Glad to hear it still worked.
@@jessemyerspiano It did work and your version is longest I've heard. Your solution made version more a dirge or a blues compared with other performances. Ty for the post, the response and stay well.
Hi, I'm here bcoz of my modules. This sounds great! Thanks for this.

Happy to make it happen. Sonata V is funky, before funk was funk! Gotta make it groove.
