      @davidspin5353 The only time I would attempt a knife disarm is after the attacker was knocked out cold. Attempting to do a disarm against a knife is very chancy. So, to answer your question, I would 1. Get the hell out of there, 2. If I had to stand my ground, I'd find an environmental weapon to use, or 3. If I had to fight, I'd go for blunt impact trauma.

    You all need a reality check and are delusional. Not because of the style, but the way you train. 95% of you guys have never done free sparing, much less been in an actual fight. So, the first time that happens, you panic and get all spazzy. Do you know how I know? There's a fma stick fighting group that meets at my gym once a week and practices at the far end of the gym. I've asked to spar them, they thought I was crazy because I said keep your stick, I won't use anything else. With muay Thai, wrestling, and bjj, I disarmed him without being touched, then jabbed him in the chin, and he crumpled. Guy wants to try again because he thinks it was a fluke. We go again, and I throw two leg kicks, done. He's on the ground again, never having gotten anything close to a hit with their stick. I then did the same with about 4-5 more because they all wanted to see if they could pull it off. They couldn't. Why? Because of the way they my train. They're used to step 1, step 2, step 3. However, a fight is far more dynamic than that, and is why live sparring is so crucial in training. They make padded sticks right? They have head gear, body protection, etc. Use it! There's nothing wrong with the style. Again, it's how most people apply it and train it that I take issue with. But but but... That's not a real master of fma! No. It was however the best guy in the entire group of about 20 of them. Plus, about 3-4 more of the top guys in the class. Since then, they've adjusted the application and training, use gear and padded sticks. They asked me to come back after a few months of them training in what I'd call a more realistic manner. That same top guy now had the footwork to stay out of my range, while keeping me in his with his stick. He landed a good shot to the head, and I acknowledged that had it been a non padded stick in the real world, the fight would have ended there. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE STYLE! IT'S ABOUT HOW THE STYLE GETS APPLIED!

    • @superdananderson1382
      @superdananderson1382 9 месяцев назад

      Yep, how to work around handicaps and the effects of age was one of the greatest epiphanies I ever had. My personal motto is "Don't lament about what I can no longer do. Concentrate on what I CAN do and work with that." This attitude takes you out of relying on attributes like speed, exuberant energy, and so forth. You work with what you can do and move forward with that. A heads up on my next project - Footwork Hacks For Free-Fighting - Karate & Arnis. This will take the subject of footwork out of the realm of relying on attributes such as speed, energy, explosiveness, the rhythmically talented, and put this skill into the toolbox of the everyday martial artist.
