How Dexter Killed His Own Show
Dexter was on track to have a spot in the Television Hall of Fame, but it sold away its chance. Its underlying issues built up until its explosion in the horribly rated final season. This is how Dexter destroyed his own show.

Batman Is Selfless

Batman: The Animated Series was the main piece of media to bring complexity out of comics and into the mainstream. Slowly, Batman and his villains are becoming shells of their former selves. #batman #batmantheanimatedseries #videoessay

I think what makes Batman is the combination of fear and hope. Batman has immense hope and he spreads that in the city, just as he spreads fear in the villains. I rather liked The Batman because it depicted Batman as a detective again, while concluding that Batman cannot primarily be a force of vengeance, he must be a force of hope

I can imagine a batman who takes painkillers and anabolic steriods. But thats just to keep him at his peak physically when he goes out fighting. Is batman mentally ill? Probably. But he (forgive my modern vernacular) raw-dogs it. One thing i really loved about "the batman" is it shows him journalling. As a way a means of therapy. Raising and being around jason helps, being around alfred reqlly helps! And being around gordan helps too.

Yes! Thankyou for making this. This is why I love Batman. I actually really liked the character arc in The Batman where he begins like the traditional movie Batman, but by the end, he was more like the Animated Series character. I really liked that.

Some of the best batman villains were those who were people who lost their humanity Bit every now and then tbanks to batman/Bruce and etc We are allowed to see glimpses of the people they once were And Batman never gives up on reaching that part of them My favourite redemption story is the Ventriloquist finally turning on scarface and destroying the dark side of him and taking holdnof his life The enxt scene is the ventriloquist saying that bruce wayne has goven him a job and he is settling into his new life. That is the Batman i grew up with and respected.

In one video we have defined one of many problems with modern media, though this one is a major one, a lot of media has no moral to the story anymore. In my mind a story has to have some value in being told if it is to be told, what does the audience get out of these stories, I feel as though that's a thought that doesn't cross anyone's mind anymore, there are exceptions to every rule, there are still good movies, games, stories etc out there but it's becoming less and less common. I think the learning experience is the most important part of any journey, and it's missing from many stories now.

Batman is cool, but The Punisher is a more realistic “vigilante” that would exist in the real world. He’s my favorite comic book character. If punisher was in Gotham he’d clean the city like in 30 minutes. lol

And seeing what became of Bruce in Batman Beyond and Epilogue really is perfect. He literally lives through Terry vicariously, as that's what gives him life and hope again. The Batman. Always the Batman. Because he is the Batman and without the Batman, ever since the pearls snapped, there is no Bruce Wayne.

I don't think Bruce is Batman. I believe he is a bit of both as evidenced by how Superman, Wonderwoman, and his entire bat family call him Bruce and not Batman because in the end Batman can't exist without the core real person of Bruce.

My main disagreement with all those writers who wrote the stories about Batman is that the inconsistency of Batman's psychology. Batman was described as a person who meticulously research his opponents/potential opponents after his prison's act when she search for his bodyguard/no name sidekick. He research even the medical record of the opponents so he can inflicted pain more effectively if they fight, and then the other writer ruined this meticulous preparation by making Batman unprepared and startled when fighting a mere human, not even a metahuman in no man's land.

Not completely relevant to the video, but I how love how Joker's iconic line of "We're not so different, you and I" is applicable to all Batman villains... except for the joker. Obviously, the Joker knows this, but I just find it interesting.

the thing is with batman is that he does not hate his villains, he understands them (ignoring joker). although he does not support them killing and hurting civilians, he does do his best to help them, so any adaptations that make him absolutely despise all of his villains, and he seems to be practically beating them to a pulp, does not seem like batman to me

The reason why Batman can emphasize with his villains is bc without his moral code, he would be one of them. He is just as broken and twisted as they are except for his core beliefs of justice that set him apart.

  • @hughmungus7320

In defense of the wine and pills thing, isn't that more of a response to the stress of being Batman for so long, not so much a response to the pain of losing his parents? It sort of highlights the self-destructive nature of being Batman, and the sacrifice that it takes, while also raising questions of how much longer Bruce can keep it up. Snyder's execution of these ideas warrants criticism, but his vision isn't completely misguided. It makes sense that he'd lean into that angle considering how inspired he was by The Dark Knight Returns, which happens to be my favorite Batman comic. I think the main difference between the Batman who is your favorite character, and Zack's, is that Zack is playing with this conception of Bruce who has aged, and broken free from his amorphous, serialized purgatory, and has been impacted by time like a real person, as shown in TDKR. With that age comes inevitable and difficult changes. Thats part of what made the comic great. Again, the movies are debatable.

I see the pain meds as proof of his dedication to being batman. He has absolutely trashed his body, sacrificing his own health and flesh to protect gotham from things others cannot. If anything, his perpetual pain is his legacy. Bad guys attack victims (violence), batman intervenes (violence), and even if he wins the fight, is victorious, it still costed him greatly. His price to pay for the violence he has put upon others. His candle is burning from both ends compared to the innocent he saves. Equivalent exchange or something.

I mean I can see Bruce downing pills, painkillers. He doesn't come out of the fights unscathed and there's only so much damage you can take before the pain starts becoming too much. But aside from that, no, Zack is completely wrong there.

The episode where he sits with the young woman in the swings until she passes instead of almost everyone else saying she has to die still gets me as a 40 year old man. His compassion, empathy, understanding and humanity is some of the traits I really haven't seen anyone get fully correct in any of the movies, only the comics and animations.

The coolest thing about a well written batman is how he addresses villains by their real names. It’s a stubborn refusal to play into their constructed reality and shows how anchored he is.
