the turbo spool when you start to build up speed is that from intake or downpipe?
What tune you running the slight pops sounded so good
resonator on or off?
At the time of filming this video, there was no resonator on the car.
This video gave me a semi
Hey, i was wondering why your steering wheel has the sort of suede material on it? my 2016 gti S has a regular leather steering wheel. is it a trim difference?
Hey, a while back I actually bought one of the wraps from Ali-Express. It is just simple suede so no real alcantara but it feels nice to drive especially in the winter. I believe the TCR version of the GTI comes with a red stripe on a leather wheel. I highly recommend!
i have the same setup but in a 6mt, do you get a lot of drone over 3k?
There are definitely points where there is drone, especially in the low rpms and higher gears when you begin to accelerate. I often keep the valves open but closing the valves brings the sound and tone very close to stock.
who's on the music im loving the tune
Visuals are super dope as well makes me feel like im back in the Chi
Which year sir?
I switch from 18 to 19’ 235/35 too, but any idea how you managed your speedometer? it will not be accurate right due to ABS sensor attached to it. Cause i got a flash from speed camera activating my cruise control for exact speed, so it is rolling more faster than before? Did you changed something any solution to calibrate the speedometer or any kind of correction?
Are you from Florida or the Midwest? It I s obvious you are new to driving these roads. Keep in mind to stay in your lane at least the double yellow.
Starting to make me nervous, i followed someones advice and went with 225/35 R19 on 19X8.5's, im praying it will be fine
I did the same, same size and everything. Im rubbing bad…
@@uwulilzee i havent lowered yet so havent had issues but ride is rough with such a short side wall
@@flounderthegupalmost any 19" wheel will bend on bad roads. *The amount of 19" bent wheels sold on FB marketplace was overwhelming, and almost all would say, getting back to 18s, etc.
bought my MK7 recently over civic si is worth it.
Both great options, long term the Civic would probably more reliable but the GTI is super reliable as well.
This was an amazing video man! I subscribed
The views, light, and nature is stunning man. Looked like super nice roads.
I think of this trip at least once a day
I love these vids man keep up the amazing work!! ❤❤
drive better grandma :(
I see most people saying they can’t have the valve 100% open. Any issues with that so far?
Not sure. With the pops & bangs on, even if they weren’t fully open I’m sure they are now lol.
you gotta make more videos of your GTI man
Hey bro! I’ve got a mk 6 just put an xforce catback on with varex muffler and it sounds almost stock 😒 do you think a stage 2 tune with a varex down pipe would make a big difference to the sound? Thanks!
Hey! Most of the sound suppression is the muffler and downpipe. 100% getting a downpipe will make it louder. The tune will just give you power and maybe the burble if you choose that. Also, dp brand is not really important. I would stay away from eBay dp because of fitment not being good. Any name brand will do.
Awesome man appreciate the reply! Getting the stage 2 done next week then once that’s done getting the varex downpipe installed really hoping to get something nice out of it I’ll keep you posted!
@@danielshaw9709 how do you like the tune?
Im running them FLG's on my Golf 7 Sportwagon for more than a year now. Love the wheels and they suit the Golf 7 very good!
These on a wagon would look sick! I personally have been loving them especially at the price point. I wish they were a little more concave but on the GTI it is hard to get an aggressive offset without rolling the fenders.
Just ordered a set of VMR V801s with 235/35-19s; I'm on coilovers. It was a struggle not to go along with the herd and go for 18s--I know, lighter, closer to the ground, more sidewall, etc....but I just have to see my Mk7 on some 19s. Hopefully I won't regret my choice once they're rolling on the SoCal roads. In all the pics I've seen of 18s vs. 19s on Mk7s, 18s look small, and 19s immediately stand out and look so damn good. Nice vid and wheels. I feel a little better and less crazy going with 19s.
How do you like riding on the 19s? I’m looking at getting a set of HRE FF11s with the same tire spec and size you have so I’m curious what the difference is. I’m still on the stock 18s right now which I will probably keep for track use
@@traceswann7054 The ride feels nearly identical to the stock 18s I had on there before. You see a lot of people warning about a harsh ride going up to 19s, but there are GTIs and Rs that come stock with 19s. I also feel that some of the people advising against 19s either haven't tried them, or are just repeating stuff they heard or read somewhere, and haven't experienced the ride on a set of coilovers. The "harshness" feels nearly the same to me over rough roads, but the handling feels significantly more planted and direct. I also lost a good amount of unsprung and rotating mass, so the acceleration feels quicker. The look of a nicely tucked set of 19s is worth it alone; it just looks so right, and it completely changed the appearance of my Mk7 in the best possible way. I'm glad I went for 19s, and highly recommend it to anyone thinking about it.
Yup agreed,I put my wife's mk8 golf r 19"s on my mk7 gti and its the same jisy looks better 😉
i got the same thing in my golf 5 gti 30 edition :D
I hope you see this in the near future but I plan on getting this setup and I was wondering what kind of downpipe do you have and do you pass emission and smog test in it
I have the cts catted downpipe. All my mods from this video are in the description. I’m in Illinois and I pass emissions no problem. You do have to solve the CEL when installing the dp through a tune. Not sure if I ran catless that it would be the same but I have no legal troubles with the car! We’ll worth the money on this setup. I love it!
Video was nice all that popping from exhaust is annoying.
Looks amazing. I'll have to try and make it out to an event over there sometime.
100% worth it. 11 hour drive from Chicago and I have no regrets.
Will it sound like stock if I use only xforce carback with stock Downpipe?
No it will be louder for sure. A downpipe is the most sound difference imo. It won’t be a crazy difference from stock unless you change everything after the turbo.
Great recap!

How loud is the cold start with the valve closed?
Pretty quiet tbh. Check the install video, the cold start in the garage is with the valves closed.
@@bimchers6643 is it true that the fitment with the downpipe is bad? Someone told me they had to cut 1 inch on the catback off so it could fit
@@champagnedrippy3942 false. I have a 2016 SE non pp mk7 Gti. I have the cts catted dp and the xforce catback with varex muffler. I am not using the resonator so I used the included straight pipe instead. 0 issues and very straight forward install. Not sure how the fitment is with the resonator on instead of the included straight pipe.
@@champagnedrippy3942 also I had the downpipe before the catback and the same thing, it bolted up just fine with no issues using the adapter to fit it to the exhaust. Are you finding this info on a forum?
Who prefers the manual or the DSG?
Manual!
i own one legit same wheels and ride height, different color not white its like a grey gun metal color. that last part with the intake sound just breathing is legit the best sound in the world. Injen short ram intake is what i have on mine. still sounds the same. I think turbo inlet pipe makes it sounds nastier inside the cabin and out as in turbo flutter but heard it may cut off boost.
Haha you would be surprised if you knew I have the stock Intake. I’ve been debating on the turbo accessories like the inlet or deleting the turbo muffler. It just hurts to spend 500 on an intake as well. The only thing modded in the engine bay is the downpipe and diverted valve. This comment has me tempted now on some more mods!
Any spacers? If so, how many mm?
No spacers (yet). I’d say I need some spacers for the fronts and back. Probably no more than 10mm
@@bimchers6643 I see. What coils / springs are you running? You got some pretty good fitment without spacers...
@@zzaaiidd. thanks man! Just the eibach springs. I believe it’s the sport version, not 100% sure. It has been about two years since I bought them.
Any rub?

I’m thinking about getting a set of black 18” FLG’s for my 22 WRX as my winter wheels… but I didn’t realize they were cast. May I ask what happened when you bent the rim? I know 18” with more sidewall is going to be more forgiving… but I’m a little nervous now 😅
I live near Chicago. Anywhere within 50 miles of the city has garbage roads. Nothing happened at the moment but I noticed I kept on losing air in that tire. Eventually got it repaired and everything is back to normal. 18’s are really not a bad option but for me that extra 1 inch in size completes the look ( at least for my build). I think you would be extremely happy with 18s or 19s.
Hahaha you should here mine in a parking garage. Sounds like Afghanistan in that mf
How you get the crazy flutter when you start shifting?
I have a diverter valve and it is either failing or I just get lucky at times haha.
What kind of clutch u running bro?
Hey dude, still on stock clutch
How's the ride quality on 19s? I've heard people complain about 19 inch wheels being rough but I imagine it's not that bad. I've been looking at these wheels and want to do them as 19s with a 235 tire, if that fits lol
To clarify that would work depending how much lower you went from stock. For the ride quality, it’s a bit of a sacrifice but we’ll worth it. Of course 18’s are more comfortable but I do not regret it at all. The look makes up for the slightly worse ride quality compared to 18s.
@@bimchers6643 lit. Haven't lowered mine yet and was gunna do it after I get the wheels on. Did my stage 1 power mods first. I was thinking about getting them powder coated bronze to go with the night blue metallic I have
the drone is mainly with the valves open?
Pretty much only with the valves open. Might be different if you have stock downpipe and the resonator on. Essentially I have a catted dp into nothing. No resonator on my car.
Broo how’d you get the turbo flutter
It might be a failing diverter valve. No idea lol
Nice video! Beautiful Porsche too!
This is intoxicating. Love the GTI.
does the boomba DV only sound good in manual? I have a stage 2 APR with a tuned DSG.
Not 100%. I know with a manual there’s boost that you lose in between shifts so you hear the DV in between shifts. With dsg I believe you maintain the boost. I’m guessing you will hear it when you do a little pull and let off the throttle.
What bov u got?
