Fitting VB FSD Struts and VB Coil Springs to a Motorhome
In June 2024 we visited A & E Leisure again in Northwich, Cheshire to see the installation of new front struts and coil springs to a coach built motorhome. The products are from the range of motorhome suspension solutions manufactured by VB Air Suspension and is a modification we were considering for our 2021 Mobilvetta A Class motorhome.
Here is the film of the full installation of these products and a brief look at the VB website too with their interactive tools to help our decisions around suspension upgrades.
Our thanks once again to A & E Leisure for allowing us to film the detail of the installation and to the owners of the motorhome who kindly agreed to allow us to film their fantas...

      Many thanks John and glad it was useful - this wasn’t our van - it was a fact finding visit to get a feel for the system but I can probably find out from the owner, which I agree, would be useful too 😀👍 Cost I believe for the struts AND springs is around £1700 to £1900 - slightly vehicle dependant too re fitting time etc Be worth a chat with James or Nathan to assess your specific possibilities and whether it would provide benefit 😀🚌

    My van is 3500 kg and my trailer is 750 kg. Wich one do I buy? The fixed one or the go box?

    • @motorhomingadventures
      @motorhomingadventures 6 дней назад

      I’m pretty sure it’s about your vehicle footprint so I would say NOT the Go Toll as there is no mention of Gross Train Weight (van plus trailer) just the TPMLM of the van which qualifies for the Vignette system at that weight. It specifically says there’s no extra charge for trailers, caravans, or sidecars so that adds to my thought that it’s just your own van weight 😀🚌☀️

    @ericcadoo8970 6 дней назад

    Thank you for the Blog , does the new addition increase the overall weight ?

    • @motorhomingadventures
      @motorhomingadventures 6 дней назад

      Many thanks for watching Eric and it could be part of a package to ‘upweight’ a vehicle. A&E are able to carry out ‘upweight’ changes and a chat with their Team would answer that in relation to the specific vehicle you may have in mind and the measures therefore required to increase the Maximum Technically Permissable Load Mass (MTPLM) - it’s very vehicle specific and therefore not a straightforward answer 😀🚌

    • @EddieHulme

      You say it gave 60mm extra clearance above with the springs . We have 6inch clearance under our Kontiki . Would it give me a few more inches ? We bottom out over speed bumps

    • @motorhomingadventures
      @motorhomingadventures 5 дней назад

      It would certainly improve things Eddie and indeed A&E maybe able to offer other product combinations that will improve the bottoming out all round. Our VB semi at the rear made a big difference too. Ask for James S or Nathan if you ring A&E Leisure who know the products really well 😀🚌

The Verdon was a municipal site called Camping Les Ruisses - basic, with all the essentials, fantastic on site cafe, but the proximity to the lake was great too - as you may remember from that episode :) Here's a link maps.app.goo.gl/1GY9oNCtDy1RRp3u8 Yes........ the rain ........... drove to Swansea today and in mist and drizzle all the way - like February. As someone that's never driven a mo home abroad, I noticed early on in the vlog you went under a bridge with no height markings, Is this a common thing in France? Interesting. Thank you for this. I'm in two minds on my solar upgrade - panels in series or parallel? I note you opted for series which may be less efficient if any part of one panel is shaded?

    • @motorhomingadventures
      @motorhomingadventures 28 дней назад

      Thanks for watching GD and I went series as the wiring required was less 'heavy duty' and the configuration should be more efficient across the 'solar day'. The mobility of the van means if I anticipate needing max power I chose the appropriate parking space with no shade which is easy. Having parked partially under trees once it didn't affect the live solar generation much at all so I've not yet seen the shade effect !! I think at the end of the day I just preferred to work with slightly lighter guage wiring - being a beginnner !!! Hope that makes sense :)

    Hi Bob. I'm looking for a neat as possible solution to transport my Triumph and 2 electric mountain bikes behind our A class. Using a longitudinal trailer means adding between 3 and 3.5m to my 6.3m vehicle (not great for aires although it has a short overhang) so I've just started speaking to CMF about amending one of their units to fit my Thule 591 bike carrier either side of the motorbike or either side of the upright. Now you've had yours for a while, how do you find reversing overall as I've seen lost of comments around it being a nightmare? I'm guessing they are just very sensitive to small adjustments?I've seen the castor type versions but either very expensive or there are too many other compromises. Thanks

    • @motorhomingadventures
      @motorhomingadventures Месяц назад

      Evening Ged and that sounds a good idea as it’s only about 1.6m back from the van. CMF can do the full chequer plate base for our version which would enable the electric bikes to be added in the way you describe. I used to have an L200 with a twin axle Ifor Williams trailer which was about 3.5m back but this little CMF one is easier to handle as it needs such little input which is ideal on sites to get it backed in etc. I have to say in Europe there were just about always pitches you could just drive into anyway if you asked 😀 With a good reversing camera it’s very straightforward. I looked at the castor version but didn’t like it’s instability when NOT attached to the van whereas the CMF version can be detached while loaded - and pushed v carefully !! (Main weight is forward of the axle) The castor version was also more complicated to put together than the quick hitch up of CMF. CMF can store upright for minimal space use. Personally- CMF style every time!! 😀

    Hi from a Tenby exile! Congratulations on being grandparents, I thought Tenby to Worcestershire was a long way to go to babysit but yours smashes that one 🤣🍷. We are planning a trip to Morzine in September this year , could you help me out with a non toll route that does not have too many switch back roads as our van is older and does not have assisted engine breaking! Any help would be appreciated. Do you go through Geneva? And do you need a crit air sticker for Switzerland? I already have the French one👍 Best wishes to you and Nicky. Time to wet the babies head🍺🤣🍾🍸

    • @motorhomingadventures
      @motorhomingadventures Месяц назад

      Sorry for the delay you Tenby Exile :)) Re the route bit ...... Is your van over 3.5 tons and do you use a truck/motorhome Satnav? Yes that certainly is a baby sitting run !! :)) And there certainly have been some celebrations!! One route takes you through Geneva - and they don't need Crit-Air stickers for the city unless there is a 'pollution peak'. If there is there will be visible signs (They are folded or switched off every time we've been through) and the link below will assist re understanding and signs etc. I note you said you had the French Crit-Air - if that's the case Geneva does recognise the French sticker and you wouldn't need to buy another one at all. Check out this link ....... www.rac.co.uk/drive/travel/driving-in-europe/switzerlands-stickair-stickers-what-you-need-to-know/ We've not seen a pollution warning yet !! I'll talk more re routes when I know what size the van is :))

      Hello again And firstly thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me, you two must be very busy with the new born! My van is a 4.5 Hymer A class. 3 litre. We do use a motorhome specific ( height, width, weight) sat nav, but I must admit it has taken us a bit off piste on occasions when we have found ourselves on single track mountain roads with no passing places!😤. That’s why I want to stay on main roads. We follow you , Nicky and Rezzy, and this year we are going down to the Verdon Gorge after watching your vlog. Last year we went down to Lac Leman and stayed at Camping Saint Distille in Thonon Les Bains. I can recommend that site. We really enjoyed it and stayed a week. We also did Annecy and then chased the sun to Cap Agde, again for a week! Our route last year to Thonon Les Bains took us through Geneva past the old border control, through the town which took ages and traffic lights every 100 yards, all on red😤.Over a bridge and then left towards Thonon with the lake on my left side. I would prefer to miss out going through Geneva again if this possible. We had planned to be over there now, but an issue with my van and an unexpected hospital operation has meant us delaying until September. Can’t wait to go now😁 Incidentally I was Manager of the Swimming pool/leisure centre from 1985 to 1995. We lived in Cwm Gwennol in Saundersfoot and moved to the Cotswold in 1995. We still stay in touch with our friends who live just up the road from you in New Hedges. Bryan and Angie Lewis, who live next door to the mini market. They too have an A class motorhome parked in their drive. A Pilote I think? Funnily enough we are meeting up with them this weekend at Llangorse lake🍺. We love your travels and would one day like to meet up with and buy you both a bevy! Enjoy your grandchild and time with your daughter Take care Best wishes Peter, Kim and Bentley the old English sheepdog (Froggatt)🍸🍾🍺👍

      Thank you very much for that Peter and Kim and woofer. Yes know the van in New Hedges and no I've not hit their wall !! :) (Many have!!) Well what a small world it really is - we moved from Priors Marston to here so a swap almost - know the Cotswolds fondly ! Yes I know that route well - came that way in last weeks film!! As an alternative, and depending on your time I've done the below route maps.app.goo.gl/ERawM3Eqhh7nWyLd9 It was part of our Autumn Adventures last year and you come in around the bottom of Geneva avoiding the city and going through Annemasse) If you didn't want to go to the West of Paris then the below is another one we've done - both are non toll but with motorways where free - you could remove the motorways altogether of course. Again it comes underneath Geneva. maps.app.goo.gl/cAFXsYVsQ9FaEfEr8 The only other way would take you through the top end of Lac Leman at Montreux but that would route you over a couple of Swiss humps - todays film was of course that route in reverse going North to Eguisheim :) Both done on Google maps not a motorhome satnav for those links so double check on your system but gives you the general idea hopefully :)) Send our regards to our, not yet met neighbours, Bryan and Angie - and enjoy Llangorse. We might all meet in the new Hunters Moon pub at New Hedges just reopened !! :))

      Hi Bob and Nicky Thank you so much for the very prompt and informative reply. We will be travelling from Calais on the Chunnel so will T into your route further down by Dijon and follow to South of Geneva to Morzine. We plan to stay a couple of days in Morzine and then a Campsite in Annecy. Then onto the Verdon Gorge for a few days. Thereafter ? Who knows, maybe North and pick up the Loire Chateaux trail? That’s the beauty of the motorhome, you can please yourself day by day! Yes it is a small world, as when we first moved from Saundersfoot ( although I am Tenby born and bred) we lived in Lower Quinton just south of Stratford upon Avon! We have moved around England abut with our careers and even retired to Freshwater East for 5 years before Covid and the Grandchildren arrived. Now we live just outside Evesham in a hamlet called Chadbury on the Worcester Road. Not quite the Cotswolds but near enough without having to win the lottery to buy a house 🤣. We hope to be visiting family in Tenby sometime in August, so if you are both at home at that time ( no dates yet) then yes indeed we would love to meet up with you both in the Hunters moon for a beer and a chat .wow I remember the discos back in the day when the Lawrence’s ran it! Apparently it wasn’t only a drink you could buy there in those days😁. But now a respectable family eatery 🍺🍔🥟. Take care you two and enjoy your travels, we will catch up with the channel tonight. Very best wishes From Peter, Kim and Bentley 🚐

I’ve mentioned to Nathan and Roger ( the boss) YOUR the reason I’ve driven all the way from Kent , when your up next week I’ve told them they need to discount you ! . @llandennyfyl Yes been abroad to France and Spain and went very smoothly - no interest at all from border staff - no one has even looked under the cover yet and because it only 1.6m out the back it didn’t add much onto the costs at all. All the European sites had big enough pitches to leave the trailer on - which means it stays locked to van so safe and secure. Really pleased with it 👍

    We love our 4.4T version. Our only major gripe is the loo position. It is incredibly close to the wall and awkward to use. If you are 9st you will probably be ok. It’s one of those things where sitting on it in the dealership seems to be ok, but presents with practical issues in real life. The towel rail gives you a nice burn too if you aren’t careful.
