I may be the one dissenting vote, but i hated the damn things. Cold and heavy. Had to have one for in garrison, but never carried it in the field. Took the liner out and wore it under a BDU blouse with a wool 5-button (showing my age, there). Travel light, freeze at night...

The best coats ever made. I picked up a brand new woodland camo model a year ago, $60, I couldn’t buy it fast enough.

DPM is Disruptive pattern material, and much like your Woodland camo it relies on disrupting the outline of the person wearing it from observing eyes by using black abstract shapes. There isn't much black found in nature so this isn't a blending in camo which has become the preference in modern times. On a side note you can get hip pads for the PLCE, but on the whole I find the cordura pouches too stiff and hard to modify with all that tackle on the back. If you go further back to the British '58 pattern webbing things get even worse, with the rig being made of really thick canvas like material. The high point was somewhere in between the two, with some experimental Nylon rigs. Like putting your mags in socks rather than old boots.

This is why vehicle manufacturers need to make easy to maintain vehicles that can be 1 million mile reliable, that any owner can perform maintenance on their own! Make the parts available, and stop this spiderwebbed computers’ crap!

Older early"digital" vehicle can be challenging to work on at times - I sometimes think the odd querks were the start of built in obselesance in vehicles that most people could not work out - once you find your way round them the vehicle is bomb proof. Nice vid D

Great title and video haha! Btw, for those particularly cold and unexpected moments where your car wont start and no-ones around to help you jump start, get yourself a Noco Boost! Not only can it jump-start your car (or someone else’s) 7 or 8 times over, it’ll recharge your phones a number of times and also has a flashlight. I saw a video on here where a guy used a Noco to jump start half a dozen cars in a scrap-yard when the area was snow-covered. Great bit of kit and I’ve used it to get myself out of pinch, and a load of other people too!

I use one of these. Was tempted to get a more modern version, but, well, my complete setup, to include a hip pad (which I suggest you get one), cost me just over $100. A new, modern version, is at LEAST $350, depending on who makes it. I have mine set up with 2 mag pouches on either hip, then two water bottle pouches, behind those, then two large GP pouches on the back. This gives me plenty of carry capacity. Two mag pouches hold mags, one is my FAK, one is my admin pouch/radio pouch. 2 BCB canteens, with a cup, a cooker, fuel, canteen cup lid, and the plastic cup, one large GP pouch for food, and one for whatever else I decide to take with me. Honestly, this kit is MUCH better set up than the old ALICE rig I had as a grunt. I recall working with the Brits, in the 90s, and seeing how high they carry their webbing, and thought that looked uncomfortable. We used to sling our web gear low, to allow for our large ALICE rucks. Well, their rucks are designed specifically to sit ON TOP OF their web gear-a FAR superior design to ours. And we wonder why, decades later, us old grunts have bad knees and backs...

Do you know VARUSTELEKA from Finland? They have a lot of European surplus. Also ONE THIEF SURPLUS from the USA....

You can mix the British PLCE webbing parts with the Danish PLCE webbing. It´s basically the same. On top on that, the Czech PLCE webbing stuff fits mostly to the British and Danish PLCE webbing. The way pouches are connected to the belt are nearly the same. Especially the CZ suspender is interesting (fits 100% onto the GB/Danish webbing) because it offers some rows of PALS webbing on the back. Maybe you can use all the information....

You can use some 20mm webbing to attach the buckles to the belt without the pouch. The Personal Load Carrying Equipment is bombproof and will last forever. The fastenings on the pouches are called Spanish clips and are very good. The idea of the ammo pouches either side are magazines x6 in the left hand pouches and pyrotechnics (grenades, flares, etc) together with 50 rounds of belted 7.62 ammo on the right. The yoke, H harness is very comfortable over long periods. I hope you enjoy it brother and that it helps you to stay safe. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧

Hey from Germany, thanks for sharing. I'm very interested in military surplus gear myself. Did you fasten the MOLLE 2 sustainment pouches just with the snap closures ? Or did you use an additional way to connect the pouch to the pack? And if you did just use the snap closures,did it hold up securly? Regards, Torsten
