The MC was off putting and the prose was odd. The synopsis is more like a mini outline of what the author wanted the book to be, and I don’t think he nailed that landing. I’m not sure why the ghost was included at all, nothing was done for or with her. I did go to Goodreads and went over the reviews there as well as the reviews on amazon. One in particular was a regurgitation of the synopsis by another author and the rest were so gushing they made me squint. Whatever they saw in this story I had no inklings of. This is a sure sign this is NOT the kind of story for me. Based on what I read in the sample chapters it was too frustrating. This story didn’t have a clear goal on what it wanted to be, at least none I could see. The Catcher in the Rye: It was traumatizing. I read it for English Lit in High School.

Everyone isn't going to like your book or sympathize with a protagonist--I knew that going in. That said, thanks for taking the time to review it! I did want to clarify about the diagnosis of ADHD. Ash isn't diagnosed with it in 1982. I wrote in chapter 3, "Several years would pass before a diagnosis of ADHD made sense of my learning difficulties." Also, a quick clarification about Mr. Box not noticing Ash's bruising. That scene takes place in the summer so he wouldn't see Mr. Box. That being said, if you don't like the main character, these little points don't really matter.

It would be weird if thre were no history ajecent club he could expouse about history he loves so much allegently? And Carlo absolutely should come up as "Carlo agreed on a lot but was defensive about his Dad, we fought in the past over it and i agreed to go against him again" And he doesnt seem to just nor just feel different due reasons, he seems to get exactly why and just be contrarian? Like if he was autistic kinda, he would not be that aware how to very specific be contrarian? You want that? And he bullies Paul, yeah thats just harmless prank bro, is bullying. This is a thing I find in a _lot_ of (bad) books: the character is supposed to be clever, but keeps doing things like "HOW DARE YOU CALL ME 'BOY'! I AM DAYLEN THE CONQUERER REBORN IN A YOUNGER BODY WHICH NO ONE CAN KNOW BEC-oh, yeah... right..." ...which like, c'mon, even the most average of normies-let alone the most brilliant clever genius ever, aka DAYLEN THE AMAZING!-can probably remember to pretend to be 17 in this kind of situation, surely. *_Surely._* edit: ok I liked most of this until like 1/2-2/3 of the way through. the screaming blew out my speakers and my ears, and like every few seconds we have another take but without the first take edited out?? Let me tell you, when I played this way back when and we got to that ending 2:36:10 I was marking as many of them as possible, took out a bunch of them then the inevitable conclusion happened. I had to put the controller down for a few minutes. Gutted. Had never played anything like this before. Top 3 favorite gaming experience of mine. The ending of Red Dead 2 was somewhat expected especially after playing this, but this one blew my mind. And for you, having played 2 first, John's death was also probably not as surprising. I am a RUclipsr that encourages young men to read and write fiction because I believe being literate is valuable for our society. My discord server even hosts a writing group to encourage people to write more. However, I have found that traditional publishing is not what was 30 years ago. I noticed on QueryTracker that as "white male" that I was in the extreme minority of those who wanted to publish in my particular genre of fiction, and at one point even being told that my "voice" was not going to get traditionally published these days. So, I don't think we can rubbish indie publishing since it is the final refuge of dissonant voices. BTW, I really appreciated your balanced approach to this topic; it is most needed at this time.

Wanna know if they took audiobook into consideration. Cause you see, as a man, there's a degree of time efficiency that comes with audiobooks that allows me to travel, work, do whatever while I'm listening to the story being told, especially if it's some real thick ass book like Imajica. To read, and I mean read as enter into a flow state of proper absorbing, you have to be still and focused, without distraction and that can be hard to do, due to our modern, often manic lifestyle and our deeply instilled fear of wasting precious time.
