Jake Unger #73 (Bullying)
Jake and I had a great chat about his story. As a kid, he moved from Mexico to Canada, speaking only Low German, and the transition was tough. He struggled to learn English and got bullied, which made reading and writing even more difficult.
After he was born again, he had an unquenchable hunger to read-he couldn't get enough of it! And now, here he is, pastoring a young church plant in Niagara. You’d never have guessed, given where he started, but it’s a powerful example of how God rewrites our stories in ways we couldn’t imagine.

Johnny Dyck #72 (Conservative Mennonite)
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.День назад
In this episode, I sit down with Johnny Dyck to explore his journey from strict religious rule-following to a life transformed by faith in Christ alone. Raised in a conservative Mennonite community, Johnny was taught to conform to a set of church rules-rules that everyone understood were extra-biblical. But as he wrestled with the weight of these expectations, the concept of forgiveness and gra...

John has quite a story for us-one that some believe is merely a figment of his imagination. To me, however, it speaks to the reality of the unseen world. There are principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places, all seeking access to you and your family. John experienced this in a very real way, and it compelled him to dedicate his life to service and minist...
I was legalistic (Jesus set me free!)

I recently used the word legalistic to describe a period of my Christian walk. This video is good, I’ve been reading Job and just meditating on God and suffering in our life and just his goodness. And this video is very important because I don’t think people understand when they stand before him how serious God is about all this so I’m thankful for Jesus and I am gonna keep meditating on God‘s wrath being poured upon him and how he is still good even in our own suffering. And also how Jesus is alive and we have freedom and him.

Born in Ontario (now live in a prairie province), I was raised in the Old Colony Church, so this all sounds very familiar. The kind of fear some of these people have to live with (the hopeless 'hope')knowing they're not good enough is very sad. Digging through all the rubble of what is tradition and what is truth is a trying ordeal. When God started knocking on my carefully constructed wall of fear, I was terrified at the liberty of taking the Bible at its Word, but the peace and joy that passes understanding when that wall finally crumbled; there's nothing like it. Jesus' teaching is freeing. There's nothing worth turning back for.

But first I had to go to the Wednesday school and there I immediately understood that I can't do anything to get saved. The only way was the blood of Jesus Christ. That saves us I am still Old colony, and I hear that very often in the church that we can't get saved with doing good. That people go away from the church. Yes, I was going through that just a bit ago, and still have struggles like that, but that's where the faith kicks in. Hold yourself on Christ. In times like that Satan can make you doubt your salvation, can make you doubt your faith. But don't hold yourself to your feelings, hold onto faith. Jesus doesn't love you any less when you fail, or fall, His grace extends every day. So get up, and keep swimming. There's better times ahead, Jesus will make you stronger, and that drive for His word will return.
