Our First Lemons Race: 2024 Arse-Freeze-Apalooza - 2006 Mustang for 24 Hours of Lemons Pt 12
We had such a great time racing with the Lemons series at Sonoma Raceway. We ended day one in 107th place but worked our way up to 77th on day two and we were the top rookie team of the race. We completed 200 laps, 69 in the first six hours, and 131 the second six hours. Our best lap time was 2:18. Not bad for first timers and we cant wait to do it again.

Did you get the mains align honed with the studs? Is it necessary?
Thank you for making this video. It has helped me decide to buy one. 👍
Damn a cast crank as 800hp? 7,000rpm?
Do you still own the svo?
Yes, I have a problem with getting rid of Mustangs 😀
for manual trans, after taking the starter out, is there anything else to take off? I took off the starter, and unlike auto trans, I don't see bolts to losen inside. also how did you get the top 3 bell housing bolts? thanks
There are some wires across the back on top of the engine that need to be removed. Basically the entire wire harness needs to be disconnected from the engine. This also might free up enough room to get to the top 3 bolts from the top of the engine. If that doesn't work, a series of extensions and u-joints from bottom should reach.
@@JohnSmithRacing i was able to get the top 3 trans bolts from the top, and I removed the hex screws that were holding the wires. but there is one wire clip that is not held by a screw. Do you know how it is attached to the engine? Im not sure if its just a clip and i could pry it out but I don't wanna damage the wires because its hard to look at it and tell if it is a clip. If you remember how you removed the wire clip(?) can you advise me how you did so? thanks for the help!
I believe I remember a harness that was difficult to get off on the back of the passenger side head. Pretty sure I remember a hard to get to bolt holding it on. Maybe a 10 or 13 mm? It was a big pain to get to.
@@JohnSmithRacing it was a clip and i ended up prying it out but accidentally ripped the tape or harness that was holding onto it. at the end i got it off. all i need to do is lift the engine out of there and disconnect motor mount and fuel line. i am watching your vid on how you harnessed the hoist to the engine and i think i can do it but it just a hard to harness to the rear of the engine. i thought it would be easier it being a v6 but no lol. thanks and happy holidays
Im wanting to build another 4.6 3v, and the only blocks in my area are teskid block, and im hearing the 3v timing covers won't work on teskid block.
I have built 3V engines with Teksid blocks and you can get the timing cover to work. There might be one hole that doesn't line up but it can be filled with RTV. Pretty sure I have a series on here building a 3V with a Teksid. Just search on my channel.
4.6 2v
Where was that back ground strap connected to on the engine?
I believe it was attached to the cylinder head. There might have been another one in the center that was connected to the engine block. If you get a slow cranking condition you can always add ground straps from the engine to the body or frame.
Are you able to use a HO pump pickup tube from an early cobra with these pumps?
Yes
i’m about to buy a 07 v6 would you recommend me getting it as a first car it needs a timing chain replaced and heads replaced the car itself is 2000 dollars would you recommend?
That seems like a lot for a car that needs a new engine. I have seen cars in similar condition go for less than $1k.
Good building John 🙌🙌
I have a video of the guy that hit you if you want it
Yall found a 5 gen v8 mistang for the lemons race
It's a V6 with a manual trans, and it was very close to $500 because the engine needed work
You want to bleed the inside first so you do not push the dirty fluid through to the other side of the caliper.
Piston/valve contact being blamed on not bleeding them seems could only happen with a cam swap, installing the rockers incorrectly or something else mechanically wrong. I'm definitely not saying anyone's lying but that's just my $.02
I have an 87 GT with T Tops and every time I’ve researched it 87 and 88 was a brand new body style and they were getting rid of t-tops mainly because they weren’t perfect and they leaked even from the factory brand new. So if you wanted a mustang with Tops and 87 or 88 you had to factory order it and they would cut the top of the mustang rivet in a panel that made the roof and t-tops sturdy.
I have a non pi 4.6 bored .020 over, Manley pistons with PI heads. I'm going to be ordering comp cams part number 102500. I have heard ptv clearance is extremely tight. Have read that they should be run at 112° retarded for proper ptv clearance. Was wondering if you had any input or experience with this type of engine set up. Thank you for putting these detailed videos out. I literally built my 4.6 after watching your videos. We manged to run a 11.17 at 124mph in my 4000# town car on 19psi of boost. Hoping the cams will get us into the 10s 🙏
I have not personally done that combination that I remember. If you want to make sure everything will clear, you can check the piston to valve clearance. I haven't done a video on how to do it but there are plenty out there. Or you can just send it and see what happens 😃
I need to replace the turbo on my 84 SVO. Any tips on getting a replacement turbo or having the original turbo rebuilt??
I am pretty sure that they make rebuild kits and they are not the difficult to rebuild. I need to make a video on how to do it.
Sorry to point out but you have made a fundamental mistake. You zeroed the gauge on one bolt then torqued up both bolts equally until you got the correct stretch on the gauge. But each bolt is a slightly different length from each other and requires individual zeroing. You should have zeroed the gauge on the first bolt then measured the second bolt, writing down the difference + or - then torque up both bolts and set the stretch on the first bolt. Now when setting the stretch on the second bolt you need to add or subtract the difference to what the gauge is showing. My ARP2000 bolts are 0.004” to 0.005” different length from each other so yours could well be the same and that is the not far off the stretch that you are measuring. Simple solution - measure each pair of bolts on each conrod beforehand, zero the gauge to one of them and adjust the other accordingly.
How much that will cost to do
They what’s wrong with minds how to the job?
ZzzZzzzZzzzzZzzzZ 😂
I’m looking to get rid of my whole assembly on my 97 cobra would one from a gt take its place without any mods? Will the water port be the same size so my stock hose fits it?
Yes, I have used the GT one on the cobra and I don't remember doing any modifications and the water port should be the same size. Just make sure you get the correct gasket or it will leak.
Does the 2007 Ford Explorer 4.6L SOHC 32V have an aluminum block and heads?
I have pulled aluminum block SOHC engines from Explorers but they are not 32V. They are 16V because they are SOHC. Some of them have the NEMAK block, which is a very good block.
Did you pass emissions with it
I am not sure if it would pass or not. I believe this car was not registered in California.
Yeah, engineers with billions of dollars of research don't know anything. If Ford could do without them and save $1 per car then they would delete them.
Take em off and you’ll notice your rear wnd start to bounce when you hit bumps/potholes ect..
Best video on degree a cam. Not even done watching video.
Mouse poop - Hantavirus - very toxic - the 93 Teksid did not use jack screw shims and had best/deeper webs
To keep noise down on the inside of the car,
What the difference between oem replacement and Hig performance rod bearings? Is ok to use high performance for steet, any disadvantage or advantage?
The high performance bearings are made of better material and have better characteristics than factory OEM style bearings. There is a lot more to bearings but long story short they have better capabilities and are fine to use for street use. I don't really know of any disadvantages other that the price.
Hey, I got a crack in my manifold. Same car. I can’t find a replacement. Can you recommend the best replacement without buying a bunch of attachmentments
I do not know of an aftermarket one available for these cars but for stock I would go to the local junk yard or pick and pull. I see a lot of 05-09 Mustang V6 is there.
One day my marauder will have a nice set of cams
Im trin tr6 too my ls3 misfirein too its only has 6k it had tr5 init i Cant pass emittions from battery disconnect so im Not disconecting it anymore hope U Dont hav2 go threw Emittions soon or the Codes Wont read but u made me go tr6 bc of u sayin misfire from tr5 thx ill tri that bc moters New it has ls2 tb onit its a 06 gto could be the misfire too mabie bc car has 62k on & that ls2 tb but wana tri this first & later gunna go with a 102 tb & mabie gain 10-15 more hp Thx.Buddy.
Teksid is the best and 3v Nemak blocks are 2nd
Can you use the 3v heads and timing cover from a s197 on the teskid block?
Are the iridium NGKs just fine as well ?
The iridium should work just fine, I personally cannot justify the price over the copper TR-6 and TR-55 plugs. Also, in some instances the less expensive copper will out perform iridium. The down side is they might not last as long.
thanks for making the rear timing chain a pain to get to ford 🤠👍🏼

Guess thats the racing version of the fl820s motorcraft ?
Hello I love the work that you're doing there and the motor looks badass.!!!! But I was wondering where did you get your cam caps from?
I've always been curious where the 5.4 GT, and 5.4/5.8 GT500 aluminum blocks were cast. Any idea? Were they all Nemak since they were 05+?
Yeyyyyyyyyyyyy It sounds great 👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
This is a great video. I’m rebuilding my 02 Gt 4.6 2v. The only thing I was able to save is the block and crank. Installing The upper thrush bearing you made it clear to me. Thanks
Should the rod just move freely on the pin? I have the rod and piston assembled and the pin moves with the rod.
The 4 valve engines have floating pins and the rod will slide back and forth but the pin shouldn't really move that much.
Very cool. Let me know if you ever need a hand.
Where are you located. I’m thinking about getting my 4.6L rebuilt in my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. If you’re close would you be interested?
How much did those cams cost for this motor?
Is it possible to keep the knock sensors with a 2v using the victor jr intake?
I was under the impression they need to be preloaded before installing, as long as crank is at tdc
Do you know if BR3Z-6710-B will fit a stock 2v? I got a good deal on a Moroso oil pan and it seems like that oil pan gasket / windage tray combo would be a good way to avoid leaks . Or any recommendations on a windage tray ? I’m ok filling and making minor mods to the tray.
Yes, that part number can work with the 2V block and pan with some clearance modifications. If you are building the engine and investing a lot of money into it, you might want to go with the better pan that helps keep the oil at the pick up so the engine isn't starved. This can happen during heaving prolonged acceleration or long corners like on track days. A good oil pan with trap doors is a good investment.
@@JohnSmithRacing Got this pan for a little under 2 . Moroso 18546 8qt . Not built but will eventually get there. Doing a k member swap and since I was down there fixing leaks figured the extra oil capacity wouldn’t hurt.
Thanks for the tools part numbers, I have a cam upgrade in my future and your video has helped a lot.
