Very helpful. Thank you
Thank you for viewing.
Great vid. Love the channel. Magellan kayak was good choice. It showed up in my RUclips analytics as a kayak many people were searching for videos on but there wasn’t much videos for RUclips to push. I’m AutoBoat USA co-owner. I used it for the past 2 years and loved how light it is for mounting on various kayaks. Bow mount motors are too bulky for most of my kayaks. I’m currently running 45lb thrust Minn Kota Riptide 5 speed with AutoBoat. I will be switching over to new Smart Head system in month or so. Biggest advantage to that is eliminating the box, but Smart Head is “slightly” more responsive and has even more remote options. We will be keeping the price similar. We try to keep AutoBoat as affordable as possible. Our mission is to bring the latest fishing tech to the masses.
Thank you for the comment. I watched all your videos on the AutoBoat and when I ordered mine and installed it on my kayak the whole process was a breeze. I don't understand why a lot of people still spend thousand of dollars on other kayak motors when in my opinion the AutoBoat is the best. For half the money it does everything that the others do and more. The spot lock and navigate mode are the best upgrades you can find. I fish a lot of Kayak Bass tournaments and when fishing a bank line I click the Navigate button and fish away. It makes it so easy to fish and not worry about anything else. I just returned from Lake Guntersville for a two day tournament and two days of practice and AutoBoat worked like a charm. Can't wait for the new Smart Head to come out.
What battery you run for your trolling motor? How long do it last?
@@richardxiong171 Power Queen 12.4 50ah lithium. I have run it over 8 hours of fishing and have never run it dead yet
Really cool set up. Nice job my man
Thank you
Thinking of getting one. Like your vids. Very helpful. Let’s see the bow mount solution you have so far. Thx.
I have updated the mount since this video but still continuing to make it better. I posted another video since this one that has the new mount.
Great fishing video. Have you ever thought about doing a video about the kayak?
This video contains a review of the kayak and fishing out of it to show how the kayak is on water. I have done a few more reviews since this video if you would like to view those videos. ruclips.net/video/-wKqp3NjIOA/видео.html
Hi, I just got one and love it. What kind of kayak cart did you use? I have bought two already and had to take them back, they wouldn't work.
@@AutographsTTM I have not bought one yet. I was thinking of making my own.
I’m thinking about buying one next week. How was hunting with it?
Very happy with it. It is very accurate. Wife and daughter both use it and hit their mark everytime.
What's the bottom look like?
NVM commented too soon
It’s basically a V with pontoons in both sides. Very stable. I can stand all day and fish with no problems.
@@bigtoutdoors nice. Looked like you could fit scupper mounted transducer in there
@@cm7032004 Yes there is. I run a Lowrance HDS Live and there is a slot for the transducer through a scupper hole and has a protective cover over it. Very great design.
The seat frame looks pretty light. Like it won't take much to bend.
@@tombosanko3085 it’s actually pretty strong
Update on the PWM. So far in the Florida heat it has not overheated and running great.
Hey man, I’m building a very similar setup. Where did you get those round, waterproof switches?
I got them from Amazon. here is the link. www.amazon.com/dp/B0BMG4CRDY/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0BMG4CRDY&pd_rd_w=dkoxL&content-id=amzn1.sym.8c2f9165-8e93-42a1-8313-73d3809141a2&pf_rd_p=8c2f9165-8e93-42a1-8313-73d3809141a2&pf_rd_r=NSH5J4XVV16D7EE09SFV&pd_rd_wg=fiJNh&pd_rd_r=048252d8-6b1c-413e-810f-afddb53dae32&s=industrial&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWw
@@bigtoutdoors Thanks.
Can you remove the pedals and just use the paddle if your in a shallow section of a river? Would I need to build a plug for the hole that would create?
Yes you can remove the pedals pretty easy, I have done it many times when the grass is on the prop. It does come with a foam piece to place in the hole for the pedals and does fit tight.
The “cup holders” probably match a vinyl pipe size to potentially build from if you got crazy. People make outriggers and stuff from pipe. I’m still waiting to see the first air boat kayak hybrid.
Another great review on the Magellan kayakbassmagazine.com/bass-fishing-news/f/the-most-budget-friendly-peddle-kayak-the-magellan-pro-angler-pd
You should have that motor straight not upright locked in trailering mode and people that is not the screw to pull
I feel like maybe not the safest option to shoot that bow against your neighbor's fence, eve with your small backstop, all it takes is one mistake and that thing could go right through your plastic fence.
It is my fence not the neighbors and I was only a few yards away and had hay bails behind the deer. I have moved the target now and is pointing down to the lake.
The one important thing missing is the track rails on the front sides of the kayak and I wish the seat didn't share the side track rails which lessons the accessories you are able to attach.
I am going to do a 6 month review on it and am including the rails as part of it. I do agree with the seat rail.
Are the pedal gears plastic or metal; are the parts available to repair the pedal drive IF it breaks? $1200 is a GREAT PRICE. 😊🥳🇺🇲
I have not taken them apart yet but yes I believe they are plastic. Parts are readily available both Riot kayak and Vibe pedal paddleboards take the same pedal drive.
@@bigtoutdoors OK, Thanks. 👍❤️😊
I think she was blind in one eye🤷
I got mine about 3 months ago and it's my favorite kayak and I have a native and a old town
Glad you like it. How is your steering.
Man. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see someone glorifying a budget friendly product in the fishing industry. I’ve gotten so sick with price gouging and big name brand status it’s not even funny. This is what it’s about right here. Getting on the water, having fun, catching fish and being satisfied and content with what you have instead of longing and drooling over some big brand name. Major props to academy and Magellan on this one. We’ll see how it holds up in the long run, but, right off the bat this product looks solid. Would be stoked for a 12’-13’ foot option but we’ll just have to wait! Great video, showed all of the yaks features and some on the water footage. Only thing missing is the stand up and cast-ability test! Thanks man! Earned a sub!
Thank you for the kind words. I base my channel on DYI projects and my bank account can't afford the high end products so here we are. I will have a follow up coming soon on the Magellan and some new DYI projects on it and my other kayak. Thanks for being a sub.
I think this kayak should be a little cheaper maybe in the $900-$1000 range, only reason I say that is you could get a hoodoo voyager for the same price.
@@Eco.boost2.7 I did get mine for $900

I literally cannot hear you talk throughout this video Why the loud music?
@@cas62d23 sorry for the music it was an editing mistake but you can used closed caption for the words
Pretty sure the makos are made in Florida or something like that
Nice
Hey brother i finally got one i only thing is my pedel are kinda hard it dose make loud noise it isnt much smooth any tips would help.?
I know there is a hole on the pedal drive where you can lube it. I would try that first. It isn’t the smoothest pedal drive but it works and is fast. Out of all the videos I have watched on the riot kayaks there was hardly any negative comments on the drive itself. Vibe even uses the same drive for their pedal boards.
Absolutely screwed me. I pulled that pin out and wasn’t as lucky. You should take this video down or at least warn people of this ignorance.
sorry for your loss bro. im researching for this service on the exact engine. who knows how many summers the old force has left, i dont want to ruin it
I managed to get the pin back in but now it only goes in forward, did you figure out anything Jacob ?
From my experience is basically he had you unscrew an important bolt that goes into the drive shaft of the outboard and needs to aligned perfectly to run properly. If you put it back in and it doesn't work that tells me it is now out of alignment. meaning you're going to have to take off the entire lower assembly to align it.
hey man i just bought that same kayak and mine makes a awful loud sound when peddling and is very hard too i seen in you review it was the complete opposite off that would u happen to know of anything i’m doing wrong?
I know there is a hole where you can oil or grease it. You might try that. I have not had any problems with mine. IF that does not work then I would take back to Academy or contact the manufacture.
I bought mine last week in Jacksonville, FL. Was gonna buy a Hoodoo Tempest 120, but after watching your video made me look into the Magellan Angler PD. I walked out of Academy a steal of a deal. I only paid $850 for mine. It had a 3" scruff mark on the side and the manager give ma a 15% mark down on it. Happy Fathers Day to me!!! Thanks for sharing this video. Hope you keep posting more on this kayak.
I am glad I could help out. Yes you did get a great deal, hope you enjoy it and yes I will be doing another review for some new mods and other things that I have found that could help out others that are buying the kayak. Let me know how your steering works. This is what I am working on now to help it turn better.
Definitely need air holes or it will over heat.
I thought so too but got caught in a rain storm the other day and glad I did not put any holes in the box. So far the fan PWM seems to be working great with no overheating.
With a sealed watertight box isn’t the cooling fan going to just circulate hot air if any at all?
I thought the same thing but watch a few videos on it and they all said the same thing that it works and keeps the board cool. I did go to a white box instead of black. I spent a couple of days in 95+ and no problems with overheating. I think the fan is the key here in Florida but time will tell.
Saw an ascend with a trailer for 500 more than what academy was asking for this model. Definitely going with this option after watching this review.
I also have an Ascend and do like it a lot. It is longer so more room but for all the options on the Magellan you can't beat it.
Would you recommend this for 5'7 260lbs? And standing is it tipy?
It is a great kayak and I have no problem standing and fishing out of it. I am 6"3 200. They could improve a few things on it but I think every kayak has a few things to improve.
@bigtoutdoors how about the steering is it rough or smooth?
It’s to stand on the 2 black pads….
Good morning indeed
Right after that I caught a 6.5
🙃 cool fish
How’s the pedal drive doing? Pretty fast? Heard the gears are plastic so that makes me nervous
The pedal drive is great its the rudder I am not a friend of. Will be replacing it with a bigger rudder.
@@bigtoutdoors pretty fast? I have a pedal kayak I recently bought, but it’s with the fins and not a prop. It isn’t easy to pedal. Lots of resistance so that’s why I’m looking at this one
Magellan's kayaks are made by Dagger. It is owned by Pelican. Most people don't know this but Pelican owns a ton of kayak companies including Wilderness Systems and Perception. Riot isn't owned by Pelican and it doesn't work with Academy. Moreover nothing Riot makes is remotely similar to Magellan's line of kayaks. Right now, FeelFree has a pedal system where you can insert a round piece (basically it is a battery), and it disengages the pedal system to make the drive into an electric drive system. They have a pedal kayak right now for under $1k. It is called the Flash. FeelFree is the only company I know with wheel in skeg technology and their deck is lined with plexiglass so that you can firmly stand up to fish without negatively impacting the plastic kayak...not that I stand up to fish when I am in a kayak. I do like the transducer protector. I don't know of many kayak companies offering that. Most offer a way to mount a transducer but few have a cover system. That's a neat feature. I wonder how it'd impact the depth finder or if you would need a certain type to work well with it.
If you look at a Riot Kayak and the new Magellan they use the same products. The rudder and the controller for the rudder are identical and also the seat is the same. If you watch Riot Kayak videos on YT you will see the similarity. When I filled out my registration for the kayak the email came back from the company called Kayak Distribution. "We manufacture the brands Riot Kayaks, Riot Paddle boards, Boreal Design, Beluga Outdoor Gear". Straight from their website. Maybe Dagger made them prior to this year.
@@bigtoutdoors absolutely that's possible! Looking at what was on the video and Riot...that's definitely a Dagger. The drive, design, etc. is all different on the video from Riot. What I find to be so crazy is I live along the Gulf Coast. The Pensacola Academy never has Magellan pedal kayaks out...all Pelican and Pelican-owned brands. Frankly,, I am waiting for Pelican to buy out Riot, P&H Sea Kayaks (makers of Quest), and Hoodoo. Pelican has been on a buying frenzy lately.
Hi, in my opinion a perfect kayak, sorry to say that they dont sell it in Sweden or Europe. I have a Whale Shark but need a smaller one to my camping van. This one is much alike the Whale Shark but smaller, thanks for the review, very nice 🙂
Thanks for the comment.
Does your dog fit in either of the storage areas fore or aft? I want to take my 35lb. dog with me. Thanks :-)
After I put my storage crate in there is no room for a dog. If I didn't have a storage crate then I think you would have enough room for a small dog.
Thanks for the review
Thanks will be doing a 3 month review for a few more things I have found.
hey just for future reference that was not the drain plug that is the pivot pin the drain plug is on the very bottom it should fit little Hex key. as long as the pivit arm stays in place your good but if it moves outta place you are rebuilding a big part of your lower unit.
What is the pivot pin do? What do you mean by stay in place?
How ls the stand up stability
Surprisingly very good. I stand up a lot and no fear of tipping over.
Peddle = to sell Paddles - are used with hands Pedals - are used with feet
Used kayak this week and it was lopsided on the wster. It tracked to the right when the rudder was turned left, it eventually turned left after going 30 ft. to the right. Going to try to return it.
I'm having the same problem, but the rest of the Kayak is great so trying some different things to help the steering will post an update to help others out.
@bigtoutdoors Please let us know what you do. I really like the kayak overall and I don't want to go through the hassle of returning it. I will also try to take it out on the water again.
@@miguellozano1150 I had adjusted the cables but have not taken it back out yet. Will Update as soon as I get it in the water
@@bigtoutdoorsany updates?
Could the transducer port on bottom be causing that drag? Between reading that on reviews and that it has flimsy spots, I cancelled my order..... Any truth to the flimsy spots??
I picked one up a couple of weeks ago. I took it out the same weekend, and the two thump locks for the pedal drive broke. I took it back to Academy but could not return it since I had used it. I had to make two new locks from a 3/4" x 3/4" solid aluminum bar. I took it out again last weekend, and it worked well, but this time, the two locking clamps on the seat kept coming open; I had two use zip ties to keep them from coming open. I like it, but if I could take it back, I would, and I would spend the money on something better, something that I don't have to fix every time I want to use it.
I have not had that problem yet with mine, have had it out quit a few times. Hopefully yours was just a fluke. I do think to make it better you have to do some modifications to it but can't beat the price if you like to tinker like I do.
I’ve had my Magellan 106 Pedal kayak for almost 2 months. Couldn’t be any happier with it. Great kayak for the price.
How is the steering on yours. Mine does not turn like it should I am messing around with the cables now to see if that was it.
@@bigtoutdoors The steering is a little tough if you want to steer it all the way left or right. You kind of have to force it. Lmk if you find a way to make it smoother.
About to pick mine up today would love to know if yall figured out the steering problem
@@DerrickLeeM I did tighten up the cables at the rudder and it seemed to help out. I am getting use to the pedals now vs my trolling motor in other kayak. I’m on the fence for replacing the rudder with a wider rudder or just going trolling motor
How fast is it and is there a lot of resistance when pedaling?
Great review video.
Thank you for the positive comment
Your knees will thank you if you scoot the seat up a little. If you’re fully extending your leg it puts a lot of strain on your knees and calves. Same as setting a seat height on a bicycle. Should always have a bend in the knee even at full stroke of pedal.
Thanks for the comment I will adjust my seat next time out.
