I have a legit question for you guys. I’m 6 foot 1 222 body weight currently hit a 280 or on my bench I have a goal of 3 plates 1 rep and then to build on that. I also want to cut down to 200. Do you think I can successfully cut to 200 while still building my bench to 315.
What’s up Josh! Honestly, it’s a lot easier for strength gains when in a calorie surplus. Not saying it’s impossible but will be very hard to add strength while losing weight. The goal to increase your bench and lose 22 pounds are somewhat conflicting and going in opposite directions. We’d pick one of the goals and crush it then can focus on the other. Does that make sense? Feel free to contact us in our 1-on-1 coaching form if you’re looking for more direct advice on your changing situation week to week.
@@IronSummitTraining yea totally get this. My heaviest was 305 last year and going up in weight for the sake of a strong bench kinda scares me even though my physique has changed I appreciate the scale being on the lower end lol I really appreciate this man! Might take you guys up on the offer

@@IronSummitTraining standing is probably my favorite when I get that weird feeling in my lower back I’ll sit down for a day or two but once im comfortable with that weight i always revert back to standing. But I seem to lift more weight seated though.
@@joshuathomas8914 makes sense! And yeah typically having your back against a bench give you more stability so you are a little bit stronger at the movement.
I’m going chest - bench shoulders - overhead press biceps - straight bar bell curl triceps - pushups / dips back - pull ups legs - squats.

Brute strength. I was naturally a good football player. When I attempted to wrestle freshman year I realized that my instinct to lay the boom on the field didn’t mean anything on the mat. Guys who were naturally stronger than me and or more dedicated in the weight room won hands down. I say brute strength is I a key athletic trait for wrestlers.
Definitely important!
Though genetics are important. One with “weaker” genetic can perform at a high level. We aren’t saying he will be lebron James but he can make the corner three when counted on if he shoots a 100 shots a day. Everyone who obtains a great mindset of “I CAN PERFORM AT MY HIGHEST LEVEL” can obtain some level of greatness! And greatness is subjective!
Totally agree. Genetics play a role, but they are also something we cannot control. A lot of people with worse genetics perform due to hard work.
