10 Reasons Quake Champions Is BETTER Than Call of Duty
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
Here are ten reasons why Quake Champions is better than Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. If you're tired of the ridiculous skill-based matchmaking, the nickel-and-diming and seemingly year-after-year degradation of Call of Duty, it might be time to look elsewhere. Quake Champions is an arena FPS with a long, beautiful history that may very well be the challenge you've been looking for. 🟢Downlo...
I'm 2:45 in. I'm going to predict I agree with the points you will make. It's about taking personal accountability and grinding out skill to fight for a spot. I totally agree. That being said most people don't make the cut and quit. Game dies.
In 5 year break he expects more noobs will stay and play the game but reality is only good players stay, he tried 6h searching for noobs like his so thats, its not like he wats to become good just play and have fun againts same players like him where u got 50:50 chances of winning or losing
5:38 this mentality is the true barrier of entry tbh (the problem is you). and the other at 5:58 (Elitist mindset); it is the game's fault when it doesn't provide ways to keep players engaged (by giving them small victories here and there to fuel the desire to keep playing) I come from a FG background, so I can relate to this so much, and the fact that SF6 is leading the genre in actually doing things to cater for new players (modern controls/avatar battles/vs ai content) while eliminating the 'elitist' mindset (by creating MR battles to isolate hardcore vets) proves their method is correct with their huge playerbase keeping both old and new players engaged. Quake does not have anything like this, and this is the game's fault. Not to mention path to 'getting gud' is absolutely pointless for a general player as at the end of the day, it is just a video game. It is natural for someone to try the game out, lose 10 matches in a row and just move onto another game. Quake demands you to go against this natural behavior and 'grind' like your life depends on it to become anywhere decent at the 'game'. This is why the whole genre died actually. The real world equivalent of this is real estate, where first come first served always wins, and if you are late to the party because you were born late, you can never actually buy a house. Boomers hoarding real estate would say, gen z is just too lazy to buy a house but this is exactly what the OP is saying; don't expect to win at all in a video game when there are people who played quake since 1996 xD The truth is, when they first started out there were no 'boomers' gatekeeping wins. If you are late to the party however, tough luck. Now you have to deal with quake gods every other match. If anything, this video just bares elitist mindset quake community has, but no one cares because they don't play quake anyway.
The point is the game should be fun even if you suck and its not.
overwatch is way harsher than quake champions due to internal mmr
What you say about it being silly for people to expect to be good at something after just six hours is reasonable, BUT people don't generally have the same complaints about, for example, Apex and Fortnite and other BRs (which I don't enjoy). What is it about arena shooters that newbies can't find their footing like they can in BRs, even though BRs *also* have elite and veteran players who are much better than newbies?
I'm curious about your exit from Kiev.
100% correct
Shit, I downloaded the game knowing what to expect but regardless I still have fun despite getting my ass kicked badly every game because I’m always interested in games like quake especially in a classic deathmatch. Though I play with a steam controller so that could be one of my issues but I still got at least 5 to 7 kills so I’m happy with that.
Lul last match I actually was lagging tho. 😂 Being broke leaves you with shity hardware.
You are terribly wrong.
Battle Royle FPSs fucked gaming
Agree 100%
The picture in nutshell is Quake Champions is shit.I can tell this after 1k+ hour played only in this game, but like 15years of UT back on me.- I still playing 2004. I think the main problem is not about the player, the game has a lot of problems after release still. The hybrid engine is shit The game system slow, or call - client The system what choosing the players seems unbalanced, no tiers just something what check the profile but we dont know how. They should make a new system with tiers, and its reset monthly while the game shouldnt be free thats makes possible to check the account. So higher players maybe can smurf, but atleast easier to check it. No server browser No tutorials - You guys want the new players to ask questions to play the game, but 90% of the players of an arrogant shithead. This is what the Quake community is. This is the truth. We are not in 2000. We are in 2024, and all game community proves this, share this after a time. Even modern games do. Its not about emotional damage, while the community kill this game, killed this game, slowly choked to death. Thats why we need a potent tier system, but what are you fuking expect in a free game to get?? This game never ever should be free, atleast to get server caring and etc, thats needs money. In this free version you cant expect that, but we need it really. A lot of cheaters in game, even on this low population see some using programes, and they not getting banned. 16champion? They can call this abomination quake, but I don't think so that name or title should go there. They should released this on another name, and publish it under bethesda corp, make some money and thats all. The playerbase is low, because the game its crap, if they make a potent good balanced game, the players will come. If you guys want to play Quake, go and play QuakeLive problem solved and let this abomination die. The only thing we can do is pray, maybe bethesda can make a potent Quake, after they milk Doom. Hope. PS: @Od1nn You really told that watch youtube videos for guiding?jeweez. :(
That player is legit bottom 5% and he doesn’t want to believe it. He’s been playing since 1993 and still crying about being bad?
100% true.
It almost feels like you're hating on the guy for expressing their thoughts. Quake is not an easy game by any means, it's hard. I myself only won 3 games ever, and that's probably because I was just a tiny bit better than the rest of the guys there. But you can't just go up to a person and tell them "git gud". They most probably can't, or maybe they just don't want to. It's the same kind of thing with fighting games and other "deep" games (Monster Hunter, World of Warcraft, Magic The Gathering etc.). Of course you need to delve and spend hours to get to learn the game and learn how to play it to enjoy it, sure, but the problem is that most people just don't want that. Some people just get back home from work, some people don't have the mood or energy to sit down and learn how to play a game well, because that's not their goal. They want to be able to jump in, play a few rounds, have fun, and close the game. But to jump into a game in which from the very first few seconds you can't do anything, are you even playing the game? Then why sit there and watch yourself die if you can't even push buttons? Monster Hunter has made great adjustments to make the game very accessible, but also reward veterans with something meaningful later on in the game. Note that the game is not competitive, it's cooperative. World of Warcraft has sooooooooooooooooooo much stuff in it even I can't keep up. So many classes, races, items, sets, combos, rotations, dungeons, raids, adventures, quests, professions, specializations, even I'm getting tired of writing all that. They're making attempts to make the process more noob-friendly, and it works. At the end of the day, I just wanna kill some dudes with my Fury Warrior. Magic The Gathering has a few standard rules that apply to every game of Magic, rules are simple, however there are cards that work differently than the majority. There are some combos and some strategic plays that require experience, sure, but why can't I want to simply pay my mana and play this cool creature and do stuff? Which is why the game introduces the tutorials, and lets you do the rest, or get help from someone who knows. Fighting games are games that require training, because that shit's difficult as well. You're not only playing against your opponent, you play against yourself and the game. Learn how the game works, how your character works, learn to do their stuff consistently, know what your opponent can do, read what this specific opponent tends to do, so much stuff. Some guys just wanna press buttons, y'know? That's what I feel the guy from the post means. They love Quake, and they like to play this game, but being against so many people that know this game a lot more than them can be quite intimidating. To not be able to even get a gun and kill someone, that feeling sucks. I've been there, and I understand it. Some people just wanna relax.
Just play another game, thats kinda the best advice you could give. The whole genre requires a dedication and passion towards such gruel. And its not about fun or something. People sell the game as something fun and awesome, while its on a similar level as having everyday sports competition and is designed such way.
I got into Quake with QL in 2016. I approached it with the same mentality as a fighting game. That being "Im going to get my ass kicked until I learn how to kick ass back" and now today I'm one of the people who new players complain about. I never understood the need to win in order to have fun. If the game mechanics are interesting, then learning them and feeling improvement is the fun. I realize this is not the normal mentality anymore.
SKILL ISSUE
the thing is, he played for six hours and did not have fun. it is a game after all, people need to enjoy themselves. most adults can not justify the time required to succeed in quake champions.
At this point if you want to learn afps you gotta be a masochist like me fr fr
i'm living in a country where i can't play qc. the connection is so bad i have to uninstall it
I'm sorry, but you completely missed the reasoning behind the post probably because you're not familiar with game design at all. I understand your opinion since I'm a hardcore player too, but I also understand that to get new hardcore players game needs to somehow be interesting to the casual for fun players. This is something that Quake is unable to do because it's not built into it by the game designers during the game development.
Nah, it's the game's fault. If Quake wants more players, than they better take off the focus from Duels and support some team based game modes. Duels shouldn't even be recommended for new players or any game mode that is too punishing. Split the burden & pressure and leave some breathing room for new players. While playing QL CTF, I was allowed to throw away my life, get my team flag and feel like achieving something, regardless of my K/D/A. Clan Arena is a good example. The game mode is being played on the regular Deathmatch maps and the selfish players are also willing to participate. Splitting the intensity of the gameplay into phases is much better. The game is better be made more tactical without distracting from the PvP interactions. Getting shot from less different directions would also be better for new players. Being spawn killed isn't fun (or fair in Deathmatch) either, but it just happens for the sake of randomness. They still didn't changed anything about it.😅 It wouldn't be that hard to spawn players in the unpopulated parts of the map.
quake is a fun and good game..... tho it is very bad that the game have 0 anticheat... yeah like im not gona waste time on a game that dont even have some kind of anticheat at all
11:05 damm that sucks, kill quad and lose it🤣 always a pro too😅
This is why call of duty 4 did irreparable damage to the online fps. Systems that rewarded bad play, and giving careots on a stick to chase rather than organically improving skill. Although I do believe in game resources like a tutorial walking players through mechsbics they'll be expected to use would be nice. Ending with a practice match where the new player will be REQUIRED to finish at #1 in order to leave the match. A glossary with information detailing timers on weapons and pickups would be a nice addition to give a new player some idea of what they need to keep in mind. They then have to take this knowledge the game gives them and go into the furnace of online and struggle and improve. This way they'll have some inkling of how they're supposed to play.
The new player content argument is a total failure. Like my man said in the video you can add all the in game tutorials and practice modes you want (it has vs. bots btw) it won’t make a you a better player. The only way to succeed at this game is to practice, practice and keep practicing. If that doesn’t appeal to you or your lifestyle then Quake isn’t your game bro. For those who are willing to persevere however, the sense of accomplishment of being top of the scoreboard is like beating a DarkSouls game.
the main problem is not that Quake is hard. The problem is that there are no low skilled people in the game. If the difficulty of Quake was the problem Quake3(Arena) would have never been popular online. Counter-Strike is also a hard game in comparison to CoD, but people stick for there are people of ALL skill level in that game. Not the case in Afps! Afps (just like RTS) have a problem of 'vetreranism'. Only the hard core players remain, and for a noob there is NOTHING to learn from getting stomped.
wait am I goated because this game is fun and easy for me lol I used to play halo and other shooters and I think this game is super fun
The moment the post talk about rank they already lost me, so what if you're on the bottom 5%, it's not like the whole playerbase are gonna laugh at you
You have a speech impediment and you chose that rate of talking? And from allllllll the words you said, you butchered YOUR GUEST's NAME the most? Wow.
You say the video has nothing to do with the person but you are highly confrontational in your approach. And games are supposed to be fun. You can provide avenues for growth in game to promote player adoption. Quake should have a myriad of features to ingratiate and introduce a new player class. As a designer you need these feature sets to provide longevity to your design. You need to provide the floor and the ceiling. ou need. A single player mode. social modes. asymmetrical systems and modes. Create support role learning. You arent a strong willed Chad for sticking at a hard game. Theres a stark distinction between providing an accessible skill floor and instant gratification. Quake wouldnt have reached ita height if it didnt have 2 titles that provided a multitude of tiers in experience. 3 Arena is the first quake to be seen as hardcore and it needed am expansion to retain many players due to UT having far greater variety and fun factor at lower level play. Even i who hated movment in ut can admit it was the more successful title of the 2. While Quake retained popularity by being the high skill arena experience it did so at the cost of relevance. Quake 2 was an amazing arena experience for all levels and provided a highly replayable campaign that trained players in experimentation and mechanical knowledge far better than 3A did in its mode which encouraged map knowledge. Map knowledge being the thing most easily learned in an mp environment. Quake is MORE than a high skill arena and but ignoring that you prove you actually do not understand anything. And thats from a player who went back to QL because QC had too much loot and gimmicks abilities instead of a steong player experience. Modern gaming has its evils but there are player experience improvements that should have been accounted for in QCs attempt to do overwatch for edgy boomer overlords. Arena shooters died because over inflated egos of more vocal long time players made arena synonymous with uninviting when the reality is back in the day the games were leading the accessibility charge. Feature sets build around ease of access was a fundimental aspect of the rise of ID mp quake 2 and 3 in particular. You need tutorialisation in the game not on a YT channel. You are factually wrong. "We dont want any new players who arent as tough as me the alpha gamer" mindset is a huge drawback for Quake. DOOM brought in so many new players to harder fps deaign by virtue of the tacked on mp not being the cause for purchase. They had a space to play and grow without that negativity exacerbating frustration. Having a larger suite of options grows numbers not all will be sweaty but the influx will result in product support and thus more content for the player base at large. A mutual beneficial experience. People should expect to take 6 months for a GAME to be enjoyable lmao.
You have to feel it, get into the flow. And that needs time. And you arr right we need more new players...
No modding, live service model etc killed the game. Champ ideas are great. You can aksi play custom games with no champions abilities.
I agree with some points, however Counter Strike is no doubt the most complex shooter with the higest skill ceiling and has learnt how to remain relevant and insert modern aspects into the formula while keeping the sauce.
It's not nearly as complex nor does it have a higher skill ceiling than quake. It persisting as long as it has is in part due to it being simpler in mechanics and design. There is more in quake to understand mechanically and the demand for expertise in its vast design is greater since competitors often compete in 1v1 scenarios as opposed to team gamemodes.
since 1993? xd
I mean I also play fighting games and I have noticed these 2 genres have similarities in regards to skill expression in depth and with the recent releases of sf6 and t8 even though they are not my favorite games especially sf6 but their popularity shows you can have games with plenty of depth and these games still do well even despite how hard they can be to master, I think quake needs to find its evolution for the modern age and just have better access to learning tools that are interactive cause trust me fighting games are finally starting to work on this and while it is not perfect it is a step in the right direction ex: t8's replay takeover and just better tutorials like KI's that teach u all system mechanics
played Q3 tens of thousands of hours and loved it, tried champions couple of times but it just feels overcomplicated with hard to see visuals. way to many champions with way to many different skills. just found it really boring. less is MORE in my opinion.
This individual should have chosen Quake Live instead
You are right, but the main problem is the games´ balancing system. Everyone could get a nice balanced game of his level, where he sometimes wins, and looses. But this isn´t the case in most of the times. And it´s not "because the playerbase is so small". No. I experienced it many times... a team of 4 veterans playing vs 4 first timers. What is this ??? Why? Who programmed this? I really can´t believe it. For me this is the reason why most of them just uninstall after 6 hours and I really understand it. When you can´t do 2 steps and die already... how can you learn something?
Being a noob in a fighting game is fun from the start. The same isn't true with Quake. Quake is unfun in the beggining, that's why people don't stick around
I swear, if this video is literally just 10 minutes to say "get good" -
Guy goes straight into ranked duels, and gets rekt over 6 hours. Ignores custom matches, practice matches, and public quick matches to slowly get better. Subsequently ragequits, uninstalls, and blames game. Never gonna make it in Quake, quitting is best for everyone with players like that.
This is just like titanfall 2, high skill ceiling issue lack of tutorials
Bro I got over 500hrs in quake Sometimes I'm ripping alot of times I get rest. But it's soo much fun no that I know the maps and the movements good. I love quake and hope to play it for many years to come.. Snake Fires
I am getting 20 fps with rx 6600 on 1080p with ryzen 5 5600 how is it possible?
This is such a goofy argument. All the stuff you’re saying Quake played know about that “modern” gamers don’t know about… that’s why the game would benefit from some better onboarding ramp. Blaming society for this game’s inability to retain any new players is just goofy. There are plenty of hard as fuck games out there that do this way better than Quake. Your attitude is a great way to make sure it never grows. Maybe when all the boomers die off and new players don’t have to face people who have consistently played this one game for 40 years, it can start to retain some new players.
I've played Quake 2 (multiplayer) since its release in the late 90s. Love it to death and consider it one of (if not) my favorite game of all time. I tried Quake champions and dropped it.. why? Even though I enjoyed it I cannot and will not accept the champions mechanic! The premise of quake to me is that we all enter the battlefield as equals! Instead I have to worry about a player pulling off a move that only they can do with their "character" or saying nooo you got that kill because the matchup of your character vs mine put me at a disadvantage.. Sighh. The hero's/champions taint a game that is so beautiful in its simplicity and purity of combat. Quake is not Super smash bros or Street Fighter where you have to master specific characters and play styles and then change them up depending on your matchups! It was never that. And as for new players getting stomped, leaving and not coming back? I fully understand that, that's why original q2 allowed you to set up your own servers to play against your friends who may also be new. Back when I started we never played online, it was just me and my friends for years just playing against each other and leveling together at our own pace.
