Saam Gin Yiu Kiu - In-depth Analysis of Yin Kum Technique | Chow Gar Tong Long Kung Fu
This short video is part of our Member's Insight Video Series, where we dive deeper into specific forms and techniques, shedding light on the principles that elevate our students’ understanding and performance.
In this episode, Zoltán discusses Saam Gin Yiu Kiu, one of the core forms of Chow Gar Tong Long, with a particular focus on the Yin Kum technique.

    Hi Sifu I really liked this one! But I have soo many more questions! These are just my most importants: How is it feel like internally when you are in the third phase? How do you know if you are in the right path? And what are the most common B.S. things peoples can fall in for longer period with misunderstandings and wrong imaginations or big hopes? What is the silver way of practice? The other thing in a daily basis we all do chi kunk excercises while our minds all ower the place, and nothing is happening. Or just some people have bad characteristics like big ego, or too little self confidence. These are all barriers we need to go through before we feel anything? Or nothing to do with the mind and just keep practice?

I trained chow gar myself in Poland and the history of the creation of this style as well as the techniques and training corresponds to what is called jow ga on the English Wikipedia - a style based on, among others, hung gar and choy gar. And on this wikipedia, chow gar is described as one of the varieties of the southern mantis style. I wonder which style is which

      @@bartomiejkoodziejczyk2457 Hi, thank you for the question. A few years ago we bumped into a Polish Chow Gar website, which was surprising first. I suppose that is the system what you have practiced. As we checked we realized that is a completely different system, with different ancestors and origin story. Our system is called Tung Kong Chow Gar Tong Long and it is a Hakka Southern Praying Mantis variation. No connection of whatsoever to that system. The Chinese name is also different just the writing with Latin letters are similar. The system you mentioned shows similarities with Hungarian Gar and northern styles. In our system the frame, the power generation is very different.

    Give people something practically effective in an actual knife attack situation!!!

    • @ChowGar
      @ChowGar 4 месяца назад

      Actually, there are many so called practical videos on RUclips on this topic, those inspired this one. The most practical advice: 1. Realize the possibility of being attacked by a knife and avoid it before it happens 2. When it happens, try to run if it is possible, instead of trying to fight against it The brutal truth is that even if you are very skilled, the chances to get stabbed, wounded or even killed is very high. Anyone can have a knife, does not need any special skills to use it, they can move with it very fast and unpredictable. It is enough a small cut to get in shock phase which can last seconds, during that time they can do anything with you.

    • @TonyqTNT

    Paul Whitrod, one of master Ip”s disciples based in the UK, used to have a huge, comprehensive dvd series covering the entire system in depth. It is a great way for someone who has some experience and understanding of Southern Chinese arts, especially Hakka arts with a similar foundation form (Bai He Quan, Bak Mei Kuen, Lung Ying Pai, etc) to pick up the system. I’m not sure if it’s still available though since he put it out quite a while ago. It used to be available for purchase on his site

      Yes, he used to sell such DVD-s. We are also the disciples of Gatekeeper Grandmaster Ip Chee Keung and did practice with him many many times in the last 20 years. Based on that we have created a very thorough online course in which beside the system curriculum we incorporated all our training and teaching experience.

    I keep mantis as pets & observe. This style suits individual with abnormally long extendable segmented forearms lined with spikes. I believe with practice from young age & implants this can be achieved. I am filled with fear by this fearsome execution of form.

    • @ChowGar
      @ChowGar 6 месяцев назад

      Interesting view, thank you for sharing it. Always interesting to see how people who do not have experience with this system interpret what they see from the videos. The extension of the arms have a specific purpose. It is not about how to hit people, it is about to emphasize a certain posture and principle and to teach how to bring out the force until the and of the arm. Hitting works differently in real application. This system is a principle driven system and teaches, emphasizes certain postures and body mechanics to make the movements more effective. By the way in boxing you can also find very straight punches with extended arms and the body tuned into the punch. What can make Chow Gar look strange is that in practice you can see it done with both hands, but as I said the perception is different from the real meaning of the exercise. I am not sure if it is understandable but I tried my best to explain it.

      @@ChowGar It is extremely interesting style of MA.The principles interest me more than 'street' applications & my interest in MA is Form as means of conveying principle & movement & as vehicle for self-realisation & cultural appreciation. Chow Gar is little known where I live & what I have seen of it on RUclips is fascinating & amusing too. I appreciate your explanation of principle & body movement. Mantis is fascinating insect & I have been capturing them for pets since early childhood. Mantis is symbol of courage & singlemindedness. I would like to learn more of this style & I may train Chow Gar if opportunity presents. My humous take on style may seem disrespectful, but I comment as to how I honestly think after viewing. The movements like insect are somewhat disconcerting. If confronted by adversary trained in this style I would avoid. The mind of Mantis is insect Mind. Fascinating & alien.

      @@tertia0011 your comment is not offensive or disrespectful at all, rather interesting as I said. For us after almost 30 years it is natural but I absolutely can understand that from outside might look weird or strange. Actually this style does not try to copy the mantis but instead goes for absorbing the mindset and instinct of the mantis. Of course there are certain posture which might remind to the insect but that is not the goal.
