    These look really lovely. I'm particularly fond of the Mineral Violet. On the other hand, I'm not too fond of the greens. I'm curious to hear if you've used these paints in a painting since then - how did the mixing go? Any muddy paints?

    That was another great review! Lately I've been eyeing new paints. I've been looking at A.Gallo's, but can't decide on a set. Looked at QoR for it's vibrancy, but the way it flows won't work with my style (but looks really cool!). Been thinking about Mijello or Holbein, but I'm torn if I want to expand my set or if I'm cool with duplicate colors... This video was certainly helpful! Thank you! (I have a bunch of White Nights and Schmincke Horadam. And I have to say that QoR's Golden looks so, so much better than White Nights!)

Big expensive purchase,, keeping me awake last night. Should I have.....? Yikes. Your videos make me feel slightly better, we will see.

Just out of interest of your lovely review, what colours are nearest to Cadnium Red, Cadnium Blue and Cobalt blue in your opinion. I would rather buy ones non toxic and closest to those colour. Just got my first Qor recently -- I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't avoid backruns when swatching these colors. I thought I was getting pretty good at swatching, and used my favorite paper and brushes, and tried to pay attention to water control... but I had a very hard time getting smooth swatches on many of the colors. I see the colors I had trouble with are the same ones that bloomed for you. I wonder how you feel about these having had them for close to a couple years now. Do you find them hard to control? I feel like they might be best used in my abstracts... maybe not the palette I should grab if I'm trying to do a precisely controlled study though? I feel like they have to be laid down and NOT TOUCHED.

  • @KristenPennock
    @KristenPennock 2 года назад

    in my experience...old watercolors for the most part (at least good quality ones) age fine and perform decently. Only things ive run into is sometimes there is some cracking but add a little water or glycerin...and all is usually good. If theyre in tubes sometimes youll get some separation of like the gum arabic and pigment..but you can squeeze some out remix...it is fine. Also certain ones sometimes have some gases trapped (i think Pyrrol Orange did this to me...i want to say by Daniel Smith..dont quote me on this)....but if you open the tube slowly....less chance of the paint rapidly coming out at you. Lastly, just watch out for mold...if the paint wasnt stored properly or what not...due to the moisture used with the paint...mold could grow so i would not use moldy paints if you came across them. I have paints that are 20 years old that perform just as good as ones I bought a week ago (my old ones are Winsor and Newton btw). Other than this.... i know a few pigments are really hard to rewet when put into pans...I cant for the life of me remember which ones...there are also a few colors like Quin Magenta that are more prone to molding than others.....I would just dig up a bit of info if you are concerned but have some fun with those old paints.
