Homemade sawmill power feed on a Norwood HD36V2
Просмотров 674Месяц назад
Gave my homemade power feed its first test run. I think it was successful. Used a motor off of a jazzy wheel chair and the controller consists of 2 motor speed controllers, a bunch of relays and switches. Replaced the Norwood power head switch with one of the speed controllers and an up/down switch. Now I can easily make fine adjustments. Also added a switch to start and stop the engine. Thrott...

Sharpening Sawmill Blades

Customer’s sawmill blades being cleaned , set and sharpened on a Wood-Mizer BMT250 and BMS250. Added an inline exhaust fan to the top of the BMS250. Got the idea from Log to Lumber on RUclips. I tried it with the KN filter like he has, but I still could smell the oil. Ended up venting it to the outside and taping off all the openings on the sharpener. Now I can’t smell any oil. 😊 #sawmillblades...

Hi Dave, I like this design, simple and controlled. Are the wire wheels both spinning the same direction (ie clockwise or counterclockwise) or is one spinning the opposite direction of the other?

Awesome idea. What did you use to make the extensions?

@@kylewoodley5240 I had some 1 1/2” square tubing laying around that fit perfectly in the channel. Cut the ends at an angle and weld the ends closed. Think I should have used a little thinker material. The surface that hits the bunk is denting a little. Still works well.

The log lifter can handle the weight, if it is properly supported. Looks like it would have worked better if turned end-for-end, so that the log would have been better balanced. For long logs, consider setting up a 3-strand log deck. Or you might consider winching them up a pair of ramps so you can adjust the spacing and location.

I just ran across this and Howard's comment that he bent his frame. My frame was twisting too with a large log. So I welded up reinforcements at the point of each lifting arm. It seems to stabilize it very well.

Howard, yes poor design. I’m going to insert a 16” 1 1/2 square tubing into the bridge U channel. It will have a 60* angle cut at the end so it won’t get caught on the SS protector. I did some testing and it should work. I shouldn’t have to do this, but I thinking this is the norm for most manufacturing.

Bad design. I had HD 36 and finally revered first to laying a pair of short 4x4’s across the rails when using the loader. Then I finally abandoned the loader entirely and got a larger tractor and used it for loading the logs. The log loader option IMO was a total waste of money - particularly after loading an 18’ log the rear arm tweaked the frame and rails because the mill frame won’t support what the loader is actually capable of lifting. The repair was neither cheap nor easy.

A quick comment from your newest subscriber. Love your videos. The lift you did in this video is nearly identical to the 3rd lift I did with my brand new HD36 - and tweaked the frame, resulting in me having to (at my expense of course) purchase two new bunks and install them as close as I could to the rear-most leg of the Log Loader. In other words - while the Log Loader can indeed lift 3,500 pounds, it has to be a short log, that is evenly balanced.Mine was about 18' long with the butt end at same end as sawhead, and still bent the frame - to the extent that it impeded sawhead travel. An expensive and frustrating lesson for me.

Howard, I added reinforcement at each lift arm because I have an HD36.
