    There is an error in your calculation for Euler critical stress at recording time 01:13:00. Euler critical stress should be 3.62. Therefore, the check fails. In fact, I have done an excel spreadsheet for this column design and no matter how I change the section properties etc, I can't get the numbers to be <1. I hope you can recheck you notes and share your findings. Thanks

    I have not been doing timber design for many years. Towards the end of the lecture, it says that the deflection limit criteria are not met. I was just wondering, for Limit State Design, there is ULS and SLS criteria isn't? Isn't deflection under SLS and thus the load has to be service load (not factored). If we remove the load factor, the service load will be much lower & thus the deflection limit can be met.
