I propagated my prickly pear cactus in the effort to make a fence just over a year and a half ago. This video gives you an update on how the opuntia Ficus Indica is doing. Some uos and downs. Cochineal infestations, drought, and heat waves caused problems. #permaculture #beginninggardening #pricklypear #opuntia
Hungry Bins Vermicomposting!(City Farmer Tour)

Hungry bins are a great way to farm California Red Wrigglers for their worm castings. Vermicomposting is a breeze with a hungry bin. Justin at City Farmer showed me there bins and Mike gave me a tour and a brief history of City Farmer in Vancouver. #permaculture #beginninggardening #hungrybin
Persea Spider Mites on Avocado Leaves
Просмотров 3853 месяца назад
I have persea spider mites on my avocado leaves. How did I treat the spider mites? Avocado production can be greatly reduced by large infestations of spider mites. I used orange oil against the persea mite. It really helped to reduce the numbers of mites and save Avocado leaves. #permaculture #avocado #compost #beginninggardening

Nice work, #nodig looks great😊
Thanks! It's all the rage!😜
how do you clean them from the inside if they have algae?
I´ve used a stiff broom with a hose while the tank is empty. This way you can tilt the tank on its side as you need. It also helps if you take the nozzle fitting off so the water drains quickly while you are cleaning.
Hi Brian you work so hard to keep your cactus fence survive. It is looking better thanks to all your care. Enjoy you videos. Garden On Bri ❤😮
Thanks, you garden on too!
COFFEE IS A BRAIN CELL DESTROYER
That explains a lot in my case. Like most things, in moderation. My life would be empty without my morning cup of Joe.☕️🙂
MORNING CUP SHOULD BE HEALTHY.
That would be great!🤞
I grew up with a ton of coffee trees in my back yard. Beautiful fruit when ripe
They are beautiful! You're right. So many species too, no? Do you know how many, more or less?
How's the cherry taste
Good question. A little sweet but not very flavouful. Does that make sense? I'll have to try again and summin my inner sommelier. 😃🍷🍒 Thanks for watching and commenting.
All beans are seeds...
You're right. I wouldn't say you're wrong! Did you read the previous comments. There's a great question followed by a couple useful links. Something cool about the idea of a "true" seed. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Can you eat them like a nut? Are the cherries edible?
They say you can eat them. Just don't over do it. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_bean
Aren’t beans also seeds?
Excellent! You are right. I guess what I was trying to say is that because we call it a coffee cherry🍒 , I'm going to start grinding coffee pits.😅☕️. Thanks for watching and commenting. Here´s a result from a quick search. A legume is any plant that bears its fruit inside a pod. Legume is an umbrella term that includes beans and pulses. Thus, all beans are considered a legume, but not all legumes are considered beans. Legumes and beans belong to the plant family called Fabaceae, and they come from the same seeds or fruits. The first paragraph of this link clears things up if we can believe anything on the Intrrnet. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_bean 👍😃
Thank for this question. Very interesting
Good one!
No digging after 40? Cmon…
Jakaja! Good one.😅
Are the cherries edible too?
From a search, I've found that you can eat the cherry. It has a lot of great properties. That being said, it was also revealed that eating too many can be hazardous. I'm not sure what they do with the byproduct while processing the coffee. Imagine the amount of coffee cherry waste. There isn't much "meat" on that cherry. Pop a couple in your mouth to give it a try, but I'm going to stick to the real 🍒 deal. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🙂
@@BriansGreenGarden Dry the cherry meat, it makes a great steeped drink.
Hot tip! Thanks!
#nodig it is. Love your raised beds. They look perfect!
Thanks!
That is so much work!!!😂😂😂
Idle hands...
#nodig
You´ve got it! Don´t dig that!
I'm glad you did it on my bday. Cool
Happy birthday Lavander Williams! Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!
Thanks, Brian, for this clarification about the coffee plant and coffee beans (or seeds😅)
My pleasure. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🙂👍
I am!
You are!
Hohow often do you change batteries?
Not very often. Once a year? The little light tells you when they are getting low. It starts to flash more quickly I believe. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂.
What happens if you leave the sucker by the mother plant?
YOu should leave only one so all the energy from the mother plant goes directly to the production of the one pup. Makes for better bananas. Thanks for watching and commenting.
A new life for banana suckers!!
Keep them coming!
Who knew you could say either cacti (from the Latin plural) or the conventional English plural cactuses.
Love language! And plants! Thanks for watching and commenting. Garden on!
I like your style Brian. The video kept stopping, I kept jumping through hoops to get it to play. It isn't your video, it's youtube. I was determined to get the information you were sharing so beautifully and I kept playing with the settings and starting the video over and over again. I used to think it was because youtube was busy-but it's 4:00 in the morning. Anyway, it was a very informative video. I sure love those tizon lizards, so cute! Sorry they were eating your cactus. I really admire your patience and resilience. May you have an amazing harvest and prickly pear fence, will subscribe so I can see what happens.
Thank you for your perseverance, Pamela. Thank you for your comments. I'm glad you liked it. Sorry to hear about the video problems. Good luck with your gardening.
Dude what is ur camera set up? This RUclips video looks like a movie somehow
Thanks G.U.M. Kind of you to say so. A little shaky at times when off the tripod. I´ve got a gimbal that I should use more often. I´m just using my mobile phone. It´s a Galaxy A52s 5G by Samsung. I used the free version of Capcut but I think they are trying to include their watermark on the videos now. I got it off for this one but I received a notice saying that it was only for the next 7 days. Any free editing app suggestions for android? Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@BriansGreenGarden neat! Thanks for the info
A pleasure
@@BriansGreenGarden likewise sir!
Bri what a great video. So much work to keep the cactus growing. Good job 🥰😎
Labour of love.
wow, talk about ups and downs. But you've kept it ALIVE! Amazing!

Wow! Thanks for the update. Glad to see they are rebounding! Looking forward to another update.
A pleasure. Thanks for watching and I´ll definitely keep you in the loop.

Totally! YOu too!
Prickly pear cacti are so resilient! I hope you can recover your fence. You are doing an amazing job❤
I hope so too! Thanks for watching and commenting!
看了很多影片都只有切下來放土裡.沒想到這影片還有幾週甚至幾個月後的實況可以對照,非常好.證明了這個方法是可行的.
Thanks for commenting but I don't understand.
@@BriansGreenGarden I watched a lot of cacti propagation videos, but they just cut them off and put them on the soil. I didn’t expect that this video would also show the actual situation weeks or even months later for comparison. This is very practical. It directly proves that your method is feasible!
Thankss for watching. I will have an update video coming out in the next few days. Thanks for your comment. Garden on!
Great info thanks. I am in Valencia, Spain and have a big infestation on an old nopal, going to brush like crazy. If I dust and spray, should I separate treatments in time or what? Thanks for your great info!
Hello. I would just start with brushing. You may have to do it a couple times over a few days at first. See how that goes. It may be all you need. The dusting and spraying options should be done seperately . I don´t think the two would mix well. Probably cancel each other out. Do you have cochineal in Valencia? Valencia is one of the few areas in Spain that I haven´t visited yet. I´m really looking forward to it though. Thanks for watching and commenting. Garden on!
Hi Clodaghwalsh. I just uploaded an update video on the cactus fence if you are interested- ruclips.net/video/un6Fq5Ybu5w/видео.html
Won't the Cochineal just climb back on the cactus ?
Great question! These little creatures are not the best walkers or climbers. Actually, their friends the ants often help transport them around to new feeding areas. In exchange the ants eat the "honeydew" created by the cochineal. I´ve found that some are back in position on the day after but once brushed off again very few come back the next day. Definitely not a permanent fix but certainly a way to prevent the total destruction of your cactus. Also, they are soft bodied creatures and quite sensitive so often the brushing is enough to cause fatal damage. Total eradication is tough but the main idea is to prevent total infestation. I just monitor the activity and brush as needed. Once every couple of weeks now. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hey there PrettyGoodLooking! I just uploaded an update video on the cactus fence. Check it out if you like. ruclips.net/video/un6Fq5Ybu5w/видео.html
So great. Man, it makes me happy that there are people like you and Mike out there who are making a difference and sharing great information for people!

a couple more years before my mulberry tree starts producing. I'll have to score off my friends tree next season to try this out! yum!
It was so good! Get ready, you are going to love it! Great decision you made with that tree.
How about an update on your Opuntia fence. I think it's been awhile to see how they're doing. Thanks
Good idea! Thanks ! I´ll get on it!

Hi Birian
Hello.
Thanks for the tip! You never know when it is enough water or too much
I had never thought of it before I saw it. Makes so much sense. Doesn't have to be complicated. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
This is so helpful for all us tomato lovers!
Good. What kind of tomatoes are you growing?
Well, the question should be what kind of tomatoes will I be growing one day! What would you recommend?
Cherry pear or beefsteak. Two very different tomatoes so I'd suggest growing both. 🍅 🍅 🍅
