    This is outstanding! You have a real gem in terms of primary sources from an outstanding unit. The sound doesn't seem to work. Nevertheless, there's plenty of good footage to work with! Stay strong! Mahalo for the share. :)

    My father served in the 442nd Regimental Combat team in the war as a private. He passed away in 2012 and through out my life I never knew he served in the 442nd. He was in the war but never talked about being in the Japanese American Combat team. I knew he received a purple heart and bronze star in action fighting the Germans in Italy. I only found out through my mothers stories about his service. He was treated poorly when he was sent home to recover from a land mine injury. His home town still saw him as a " Jap ". He was even spat on in uniform by a local woman on the town bus and was thrown off when he was on leave. When he received a letter from the US government decades after serving thanking him for his service he burned the letter. He never forgot how he and his team was treated fighting for a country he cared for dearly. I wished he had talked about his military duty to me, but it was too late. I served 5 years in the US Navy in the 1970's at the end of the Vietnam war.

      What is the name of his home town? His treatment in the States is unusual--I can't recall 442 vets having such an experience.

      That's an impossible request. The answer is no. If there were a minute chance of finding any such person, you would have to provide a lot more information about your request to narrow it down to a more specific search zone. As it is, you're asking if anyone knows anything about John Smith, a person who lives on planet earth.

      @@442ndrct3 He’s listed on the roster on the Sons and Daughters of the 442 website and they have meet ups. I don’t think it would be too far fetched.

    Awesome footage! where do you find all of these films ?

    • @lonebeagle
      @lonebeagle 2 года назад

      All of these Signal Corps films are at the National Archives (NARA) in College Park, Maryland. The National Archives catalog can be searched using their online search engine. It is possible to get copies of films at NARA but the process is complicated and expensive. The Government doesn't charge anything to access their films, but the actual process of making copies of films/videos must be done by approved private vendors. So the costs can vary significantly depending on the type of film or video being copied. In general it costs a minimum of hundreds of dollars to the sky is the limit.

    I've seen these same clips in a newsreel with the original sound. Was there no sound with this?

    • @442ndrct3
      @442ndrct3 3 года назад

      This is the Signal Corps film used in newsreel. This copy at the National Archives did not include sound. The National Archives has thousands of reels of film from the war, and the newsreel version of this film with sound probably exists somewhere, but it's not like looking up a book in the card catalog in a library. And it costs a lot of money to have a copy of a NARA film made, so it's not something that is free. Even if you knew the exact identity of a film reel, it could cost $500+ to get a digital video copy of the film. So if you can find the sound version of this film, put it up on RUclips because I sure would like to view it!
