FlashBack to the 1980s - 15 Major Things That Happened During the 80s

So many memorable events occurred in the 1980s. These are just 15 of the major events in sequential order that span across the entire decade. I'm currently working on and will post videos in a year by year format, which will give me the opportunity to feature more of the historic events that took place during the 80s in even greater detail.
Harvest yellow. I didn't mind the brown, hated the avocado green. In a strange way, I wish some of these colors would come back into fashion. I'm kind of tired of steel metal gray.
Beautiful ❤
I would have enjoyed it much much more if you would have shown a lot more washing machines
I have a harvest gold Hotpoint range that is a mix between the stoves shown at 1:28 and 1:52. It has the clean feature and outlets on the sides. Still works great after all these years.
We still have a working mustard yellow refrigerator. I heard that refrigerator color matched the wall when the condo was first built, but I doubt that any of the units still have mustard yellow walls.
What brand is that refrigerator?
They lost their way long ago!
My early childhood memories of McDonald's were going to the older style building that had the slanted roof, golden arches, and cement picnic tables out front. It was a real treat summer ! Fast forward to 1976 on my 16th birthday I applied for my first job at the newer modeled McDonald's in my neighborhood. I worked there for almost two years until I graduated high school and left for Navy bootcamp. While I worked there they put in the first drive through and sent a handful of us for drive through training at another McDonald's a few hours away that had one. We were the #1 McDonald's restaurant in the region. I learned a lot working there about teamwork, cleaning, and people skills! That helped me through bootcamp, Nsvy service, motherhood, nursing career, outreach, volunteering, Church community, and life. I highly recommend McDonald's for a first job for teens and anyone looking for a first job in the workforce. I still remember hearing "if you got time to lean, you've got time to clean!" Keeping busy was a must....still is!🍔🍟🥤🍦
In St. Paul, MN in the late 70s, one McDonald's had a golf cart you could rent to drive to the playland that was away from the restaurant. It was pretty cool.
Back then the portions were bigger any the price was reasonable. I bought breakfast for the two of us the other day and it was not a whole lot of food but the amount was over $20.00 what a rip-off.
I remember that it was said that one of the Fresno McDonalds was the first franchised McDonalds. It had the big arches. The building was replaced with a modern building and then later rebuilt to give that retro feel. They later modernized that one on the inside. They did leave the big golden arches. We have many McDonalds only the one on Blackstone Avenue has the big aches and retro outside.
Just found your channel and subscribed ..... love it !!! Thanks for the memories ......
Welcome aboard-- thanks for watching & subbing! :)
basically sell edible chemistry sets now .
I remember when the Big Mac came rapped in tin foil with blue print on it with a white paper ring around it
I worked in a fishbowl in Central Park, Bham, Al.
I remember those glass cups and mugs. They where 100% reusable bring them home wash them up put them in your cupboard and use them over and over again. These days with the concern over paper waist those glass mugs and glasses would make good sense and with the eat in dining facilities that they have they could also have dishwashers take care of them and with the drive through they can also be designed with matching reusable lids.
In 1964ish a McDonald's was opened on Kirkwood Hwy. Wilmington De. My parents would put all 5 kids & our dog in the station wagon. Pillows, blankets ect. Stop at McDonald's get a bag of burgers, fries & milkshakes for all & head to the drive in for a movie. Life was soooo good.
The food used to be better tasting too. They've obviously changed the products they use for their food because it tastes nothing like it used to taste. They're not the same, both the burgers and the fries. McDonald's food used to have a distinct flavor that you could always expect, but now everything has a weird crappy taste. There doesn't seem to be any change in the buns at least
In my youth we only had one McDonalds in the state. It was a half hour drive to get there. homburgs were 15 cents, cheeseburgers were 20 cents, fries 15 cents and soda and milkshakes were the only other things that they had. We would buy bags of homburgs and have them for lunch later in the week. Now in my 60s I still eat at McDonalds once a week.
You could feed the whole family for $5.00 back in the 60's.
What I miss the most about McDonald's is the real meat that they used to put in their burgers
Those arches weren't golden originally. They were red and green neon. You can see the neon tubes on some of the early photos.
the mcdonalds experience has long faded away......way to much money for a hamburger i think.....it's come a long way since 15 cents.......
I remember the McDonald's without the indoor seating. My father used to take my brother and me there when I was 3. It was the summer before my sister was born so my mother needed down time. We would go to Dairy Queen after. By the time I was 5, the indoor seating was coming in at new McDonald's.
I remember when the Big Mac came in a styrofoam container and fries were prepared in beef tallow. Then some vegetarian complained.
There used to be an ice cream cone back in the 70’s called that I loved called the “Triple Ripple” I also miss the original characters such as The Hamburglar, Grimace, Mayor McCheese, etc.
I remember that original building. Awesome video!
Thanks for watching! :)
Does anyone remember (back in the 70's) when you could get a Big Mac, fries and a coke for under a dollar? Actually you'd get back a nickle...... And a few some years back, McDonalds was offering .39 cent hamburgers & .49 cent cheeseburgers twice a year. Geez, what happened? ~ (How much is a burger now?)
I remember when cigarettes were $1.50 a pack. Prices went sky high after the '74 oil embargo.
I will love to see a McDonald's restaurant building, that somewhat, goes back to the original look for it, but with a modern take on it.
Your opening picture of Dick and Mac McDonald is incorrect. The picture on the right is, in fact, Ray Kroc. I know because I worked with him in the late 60’s in LA. Need to edit a correction please.
That’s cool! I am aware of the error and will try and post an edit as soon as I can, thanks for watching!
I worked at McDonald's from 1968 to 1970 in high school. The food was so much better than today. The hamburgers were fresh and not frozen. The french fries were cut from Idaho potatoes that came large bags. The milk shakes were made fresh with frozen ice cream and were stirred on shake mixers. You could buy All American and get burger fries and coke for 49 cents.
I MISS THE GOOD OLD FASHIONED DEEP FRIED APPLE PIES....AND FRIED PEACH AND MANGO PIES FOR SUMMER....FRIED MINCE PIES FOR CHRISTMAS....
IN MY HUMBLE OPINION...IT WAS A BIG MISTAKE FOR THE BROTHERS TO DO BUISNESS WITH RAY CROC....MCDONALDS WOULDVE STILL BEEN THE BEST BURGER CHAIN IF THE BROTHERS NEVER SOLD IT TO RAY CROC.....MCDONALDS WOULD STILL BE LIKE ( IN N OUT )......REAL SHAME MCDONALDS HAS GONE SPIRALLING DOWN....
The pic at 19 seconds, the one on the right is Ray Krap, I mean Kroc. That is not one of the McDonald brothers!
I am aware of the error and will try to fix, thanks for watching!
I saw on the original menu the cheese advertised as real aged cheddar. Doubt they are using that now. I'm old enough to remember when they cooked the frys in tallow. Wish they still did. 😞
I wish that was still around
I remember the times my family and I ate at McDonald's for many years.
Oh I remember the time that went by when McDonald's had a dollar menu. Now you can get barely any water out of a sink in a McDonald's bathroom 😅
Just once, I'd like to see a story about the original orange drink. The one that pre-dates Hi-C. That stuff was liquid crack, and none of these other pretenders has come close.
Not sure why McDonald's food stopped tasting good. Last time I ordered a Big Mac it tasted wooden. The fries weren't as soft and crispy as they once were. Wow, what happened!!
With all the concerns of fast food being unhealthy they've removed a lot of salt, changed to vegetable oil and made the bread bland. How they used to be made and cooked gave the burgers their flavour. All the flavours come from the sauces now. The price they are currently in 2022 means you could probably get a better burger elsewhere to be honest.
.....you talk about the McDonald Brothers , But you show a Picture of Ray Kroc....
Sorry, that was an error -- thanks for watching!
THEY obviously did something right back then...if they didnt ut would not be what it is today....hopefully no one ruins that, like so many other things
Why do you have a picture of Ray Croc as one of the McDonald brothers?
Sorry, that was an error -- thanks for watching!
Loved McDLT!
Good job authentic. I worked as a night manager in late 60's.
Great video! You should do a video on Sears. There are only 14 Sears stores left, and 2 of those are closing.
Remember the Big Mac song? I can still sing it! Sing with me! "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce cheese, pickles onions on a sesame seed bun."
Fast food 1960's, drive up always a short line, order, clerk gathers already made burgers/fries/drink, pay ~buck for everything then back to your car in 5 minutes, burgers were crap thin dry tasteless, early fries cooked in lard were awesome and shakes w real cream, yum but BK much better burgers! ~
McDonalds back in the 70's was pretty good. Now it tastes like crap.
It's definitely not the same!
Food was awesome years ago, plus almost all the McDonald's restaurants look like unappealing corporate cubes now
I remember when the hamburgers were 15 cents in the 60's. The local bowling alley was close to the McDonald's. So on Saturday my friends and I would go to McDonald's and then go bowling. Good burgers and good fun. A great memory
Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching! :)
I remember the oldmcdonalds, Was better than the new one. The service and the food was better. They waited on you right away and it was cheaper. Now the service is slower and And the food is subpar.
I agree -- thanks for watching! :)
