Red Storm Rising - "One Mod Only" (DOS)
Fresh from the PixelWings naval shipyard comes the first ever mod for MicroProse' Red Storm Rising (PC-DOS version)! Features fully revamped and more realistic console graphics, custom UI asset layout, improved colors, display titles and messages, redrawn action screens, as well as a bonus active sonar sound (MT-32). On-screen buttons also correspond to the actual keyboard layout.
The gameplay is for showcasing the changes, and so I did unfortunately take many hits. After what was a brave fight by our boat, we were in fact sunk. But so were most of the enemy forces. Though, the Victor 3 did a good job in hiding from us. Game is running Roland MT-32 sound.

Completing the Southeast Asia Tour of Duty, with a new and cleaned up version of the countersign protection skip! Well, that was a fun afternoon. The game now skips the countersign check every time, letting me land safely and get a mission report. In the video, you will barely see the check flash in the MFD as you near the base, then the sim continues as normal.

First mission of the North Cape scenario "Fighting Withdrawal" in MicroProse Fleet Defender (version 2.0), protecting the carrier group from incoming Tu-16 Badgers. I am using a new and more realistic ocean texture, as well as a fix for the surface scrolling issue. I have also changed the loading screen. Playing the historical Guadalcanal I scenario in Task Force 1942 (Surface Naval Action in the South Pacific) from MicroProse. Showcasing a mod that fixes the ingame screen fade delay, essentially removing it. The original simulation suffers badly from an almost 4 second black screen fade, as it makes the gameplay incredibly sluggish and tedious. But without them, it is a joy to play!

That's awesome. I never had F-19, but I remember seeing it on the shelf. Everything from Microprose was basically gold back then. I need to see if it's on GoG. I don't remember what the displays looked like (I would have only seen them on the back of the box) so I'll have to find a copy to see what you changed. That's awesome that people have figured out how to mod these pre-modularity games. Dumb question: is that running in EGA or VGA? Apparently I can't tell 320x2x0x16 from 640x4x0x16 anymore.
Thanks! MicroProse holds so many memories for me too. Indeed, the game is on GoG nowadays. This is EGA mode, the game has VGA mode but that is basically the same except for some gradient corners in the panel art. This new panel will work in VGA mode as well, added the proper file to the mod archive now. Though in F-19 VGA mode is still 320x200 too, so it does not matter really :)

I used to LOVE this game. Played it on government computers when I was on night watch in the HQ building when I was in the Marines back in the late 80s.
That must have been a fun, to experience these sims at the time they came out and were fresh!

I first played this as a kid in 1995, but only last week did i finally beat my first proper mission in the game. I'm on the third campaign now, and I've grown to love this challenging and detailed game. I especially love the AIM-54 Phoenix missile. :P
Where'd you get the texture mods? This was a great sim that I still fire up sometimes for nostalgia.

Hi Baron, I got it from the original 5.25" floppy disks. Personally I consider it the best version of F-117A, hugely recommended.
