    Loads of great info. Thank you. I will disagree on the downsides. Based on a comparison between my two most recent tow vehicles; 2015 Ram 2500 with 6.4 Hemi (gas) and a newer model year 2021 ram 3500 with 6.7 Cummins (diesel). 1.) Low revs on a diesel usually leads to much quieter operation. That HEMI was screaming through the Rockies. On a similar trip the Cummins barely changed gear and rev patterns. Night and day, hands-down diesel is quieter. 2.) That Hemi used mid grade. Mid grade and diesel are about the same cost around many parts of the country, especially on the interstates. If you're towing with a gas engine you probably should use better fuel ... and that's where fuel cost starts to even out. Add in efficiency differences of 30% to 50% and it's not even close. 3.) + who wants to stop for fuel every 90 minutes? If you have a large trailer and a diesel engine its far easier to use the semi-truck side of the house to get fuel and DEF. Avoid that parking lot drama! (Super bonus for quality of life).

    I think the hitch weight at 2,142 is the weight on the truck IF the trailer is at the UVW weight. You need to proportionally raise the hitch weight if you are trying to cover for GVWR. So, 2142 / 11923 * 14995 = 2694. Some sites will tell you to use 10%-15% for a regular trailer and 15%-25% for a 5th wheel. The original hitch weight to UVW ratio was 18% so the final hitch weight if you are at GVWR at 18% would be 2694. If you load front heavy or want some more buffer 20% could be used which would be 3,000.

    The statement that the diesel engines will we outlast the gas engines just isn’t true anymore. With all of the emissions added to these trucks, the likelihood that you’re going to have major repair and failures has dramatically increased. A simple well constructed natural aspirated, gas engine like the Ford Godzilla has a good chance of outlasting the diesel.

    Every year Ford towing may change. Make sure you check your truck and the year. Google "2024 ford f-350 towing chart" or whatever year you need to pull your specs. Significant towing increases at 2020 and beyond for the SRW.

    Rule of thumb. Ignore whatever the RV manufacturer says is the hitch weight. Instead use a percentage of the trailer GVWR. If its a 5th wheel, 25%. If its a travel trailer, 15%. This way, you know you have enough truck for a worst case loading scenario and sloppy load distribution in the trailer. Under no circumstances will the manufacturer hitch (or pin) weight ever be recorded on a scale in real life. The unit is stripped to something unusable when they weigh it.

    Howdy! Enjoyed your videos. Wife and I recently purchased a 3100Z and just love it! Previously we owned a DP. Question: Do you use anything to help minimize the slight movement when walking around inside the RV? Just curious. It's been a long time since we owned a trailer product, not that motorhomes don't move a bit. Thanks.

    • @InterstateExplorers
      @InterstateExplorers 2 месяца назад

      Congrats on your 3100! We do not use anything to minimize the movement as we find it doesn't bother us. We came from a travel trailer where it was much more noticeable. We used x-chocks with that and didn't notice any improvement so got rid of them. We currently just use SnapPads, but some people use blocks to keep the jacks closer to the RV, which can reduce the movement. Happy travels!

    Unless I missed it, you do not explain that the hitch weight Brinkley or any other RV manufacturer advertises is also the UVW or dry hitch weight. When the camper is loaded to the GVWR, the weight on the hitch also increases, further adding to the weight on the truck. In your example, the Brinkley has a GVWR of 14,995 lbs.. Loaded hitch weights will vary depending on how the owner loads it, but you can assume 18% - 25% of GVWR. Let’s say it is loaded so that it has 20% of 14,995 lbs. (GVWR) of loaded weight on the hitch. That would be 2999 lbs. that the hitch now weighs. That is 857 lbs. more weight that should be included in your truck payload calculus. When that extra hitch weight is considered, you eliminate a good share of the trucks shown in your spreadsheet. One more thing I would caution is that RV’s, just like trucks also have a “door sticker” of sorts. It is usually located on the driver’s side front of the RV and also may be on the inside jamb of the entry door. Just like with tow vehicles, this sticker shows the true weights of your RV after all optional equipment is factored in. Manufacturers brochures usually show the build weights before options just like tow vehicles.

    You’re wrong about having to use special TP. All you need is TP that dissolves in the holding tank. Probably the best is Charmin UltraSoft, which stays together well while using it but dissolves relatively quickly once in the tank. However, a bidet does make sense. I have one at home and am considering installing one in my RV.

    Is the Brinkley hitch weight based upon the trailer being unloaded? I've just started looking into the Z3100, and the idea of having a stackable washer and dryer is attractive, but that weight would be right over the pin. Wouldn't that increase the hitch weight well above the 2,142 lbs listed by Brinkley? It seems to me that just adding a washer/dryer would throw you over a 3/4 ton for cargo weight.

    • @InterstateExplorers
      @InterstateExplorers 5 месяцев назад

      The numbers from this video are from the manufacturers website which is base on an unloaded trailer. Adding the washer/dryer would very likely overload a 3/4 ton truck.

    I am interested in purchasing this model. I see your tow vehicle is a 3500. I have a 2023 2500 Ram, with following specs. From your experience would this be a suitable tow vehicle for this model? Axle Ratio = 3.73 Payload = 2,959 (2,813lbs) Max Towing = 16,870 Max HP = 410 Max Torque = 429 Payload = 2,959

    • @InterstateExplorers
      @InterstateExplorers 5 месяцев назад

      You may be close to overloaded. The unloaded hitch weight is 2142 lbs which leaves you 817 lbs of available payload. Once the Brinkley is loaded that will increase the hitch weight. Additionally, whatever cargo and people you have in your truck will decrease the payload number so the 817lbs of available payload will be eaten up quickly. I'd play it safe and get a smaller trailer or upgrade to a one ton truck.

    Have you tried a 90 degree elbow on your water inlets. In video it looks like just the right amount of room needed to allow doors to close. Also if you were to put wood runner strips under machine and use a drill to make counter sink holes for feet to set in, so doesn’t slide around, you may be able to get to clean out. Just a thought. But looks very nice.

    We just ordered a Z2900 and as first time fifth wheel owners are wondering about hitches. F-350 Diesel with standard bed. We're leaning towards a Gen-Y Gooseneck to save space and not have to handle a heavy hitch in the bed. Why did you choose the B&W over a gooseneck?

    • @InterstateExplorers
      @InterstateExplorers 8 месяцев назад

      It was ultimately a price decision. The conversion to a gooseneck is expensive and we don't even use our truck bed, so we just went with the B&W.

    I’ll throw out something you may not have considered. The tow rating you are using is wrong. That 7100 lb rating is for lowboy or flatbed style trailers that are much better designed for distributing weight and have much less wind drag. The 7100 is not based on towing a travel trailer. In fact there is no written number from any manufacturer (at least for SUV’s and half tons) for towing travel trailers so guesswork comes in to play. To give a travel trailer percentage factor I’ve heard estimates between 20% up to 30%. I think 30% could be a bit much but for some situations like this one it could be accurate. Again it’s a guess that has to include many other factors. I’m not saying that Sequoia won’t tow that TT just pointing this out.

    My wife and I are looking at 5th wheels right now, and Brinkley is on the top of the list. It's between the Z 2900 and the Z 3100. She wants the 3100 of course :) Do you think there would be any noticeable difference in towing and backing a 33' vs 35'? I've never towed a trailer that long before. Will have a Chevy 3500 single rear wheel pickup. Thanks for your videos, they are superb, greatly appreciate you taking the time to make them.

      I'm glad you're finding the videos helpful! I've towed a 27ft and 35ft trailer and I definitely notice the difference between the two in terms of turning radius and general maneuverability. My assumption would be that you will need a little more space when maneuvering the 35ft trailer, but the difference should not be too significant. Your Chevy 3500 will be strong enough to tow either option. A few differences between the two models you may want to consider. The Z 3100 comes with washer/dryer prep whereas the 2900 does not. We really like the washing machine in our unit and can't "live without it" now. The 3100 bathroom is fairly tight, and the 2900 has a much more spacious bathroom. Either unit is great and I'm sure both of you will be happy with whatever you choose.

    Are you still able to clean the filter bottom right on machine?

      No, we would have to remove the framing to open the filter.

    Good video, but on your results page line 7 and line 11 should be the same number 953 lbs. On line 7 to get available gross vehicle weight you would also have to include the deduction of the tongue hitch weight. ( 3,095 - 2,142 = 953)

    I think the golf course is gone because a water main broke and the operator was unwilling to pay to fix the water main. Also the word is that the government environmental people think the west side of the golf course and the home building lots on the golf course - some sort of erosion beef. But if they would just build the homes the people would buy the homes and the homeowners would take a of the erosion issues… this sounds too stupid to be a real problem. Some environmentalists just want the golf course gone. I still think the situation can be saved and the golf course restored.

    What do you pull your Brinkley Z 3100 with? I saw it was a GMC Sierra, but what size? We just ordered the Brinkley Z 3100, but ours will have the Sliding Table / Desk in the kitchen.

    Thanks for your review. I saw another review that was saying absolutely do not stay at Fort Wilderness. That did not make sense to me because while it is not going to be perfect, it cannot be a bad experience universally or Disney would make less money. One thing you left out was how much did you pay per night for your RV space? Since all the RV sites have hookups, does the price vary only by size of your rig? Also, does one have to be careful to not get a spot near the pool or those other entertainment venues due to the noise (assuming you want to avoid that), or were they careful to design the park where those are far enough away from there? And totally agree with you about having a plan. It will be far more enjoyable, and yes probably less costly, to have a plan. My favorite park is actually Animal Kingdom (Magic Kingdom just cannot compare with Disneyland, IMO). The Avatar ride is amazing. However, I cannot agree with the comment about it not being crazy expensive. Disney is crazy expensive, period. I love Disneyland (like Disney World) but when it has gotten to the point where the average family can no longer afford to go there, or have to say up for years to go there, I call that crazy expensive (though admittedly I am part of the problem since I keep paying to go there ;) ). Last, for anyone who has not been to Disney World, but has been to Disneyland, how you do things is not comparable. Genie+, lightening passes, share some commonalities but can be quite different. Which, of course, is all the more reason to plan.

      We've stayed at Fort Wilderness twice and we'd rather stay there than one of their fancy hotels. Rates are going to vary, but we payed around $140-150 per night each time we went. Considering it's Disney, this is steal! Lots of amenities too! I've stayed at more expensive campgrounds with less amenities. Smaller campsites are cheaper and campsites that are closer to the main amenities are more expensive. In terms of location, you don't have much choice over that. They will put you where they put you. Last time, we were put near the pool and it was quite noisy. It wasn't enough to keep us awake at night or anything, just mildly annoying listening to kids scream at all hours.

    Awesome video...one of the best I've seen. One thing to add is that your gas/diesel in your truck's tank also takes away from your payload number. Can be significant, especially if you have a big tank(s).

    • @InterstateExplorers
      @InterstateExplorers 9 месяцев назад

      Yes this is definitely true! Our tank is 32 gallons and I'm sure most tow vehicles have a similar size tank. That's a lot of weight.

    Wow, very clear and concise on the RV finacing break down. I have bought at least over 20 vehicles and finace most of it and i have never heard someone explain this good to about finacing in general, however, I always try to research things about financing and ways to purchase when shopping and financing a vehicle and or rv. We are seriously considering the Brinkley G4000 as a full-time rv house on wheels. Which financing company did you chose and which lender would you recommend for an rv like Brinkley. Thanks in advance.

      Thank you for your positive feedback! I'm glad to hear that you found the information on RV financing breakdown clear and concise. For both of our trailers we ended up using the lenders that our dealer set us up with. Specifically, we are using Huntington Bank for our Brinkley and Bank of the West for our last trailer. In both instances, the terms were better than anything we could find on our own. It is a good idea to shop rates from other lenders before going to your dealer to make your purchase. Hope that helps, let me know what other questions you have. :)
