It's about having fun and living life! Fun is defined by primarily flying my Lancair 360 personal aircraft. Whenever possible, I take the opportunity to jump into a friend's airplane and play passenger: it doesn't matter as long as I am in the air! Fun also includes airshows, aircraft maintenance (a definite part of homebuilt/amateur-built airplane ownership for me), and just plane (no pun intended) messing around. I spend most of my days kidding around so don't be surprised if I have a little humor in what I do.
About me: I have been in and out of aviation for many years and have been building airplanes for the last 25 years. I am a professional actor, former comedian ..... not true .. lol. I am an analytics professional :-)
The plane: Lancair 360. It took 6.5 yrs to build. She is FAST! I have gone up over 200 knots and still learning. Join me and subscribe. If you are ever in town, look me up so we can have a fun flying adventure together!

Back to Flight School!!
Hello everyone. This video may be the beginning of something new for me. I am heading back to flight school to improve my skills and add to my current pilot's license. Hope you come along for the journey. Time to continue on my flying adventure and increase my knowledge! Hopefully this motivates those that have had the urge to go ahead and start their journey. You can ALSO DO IT!

How to prepare for Winter Flying
Просмотров 5862 месяца назад
Hello everyone! Winter season is almost upon us and in this episode, I review a few of the things I do to get ready for the colder weather that some of us have to deal with. If you have any suggestions of your own, don't forget to include them in the comments below. Remember, if unsure of about whether these apply to you and your airplane, make sure you speak to an AME for your specific aircraf...

Welcome back to @HUDPilot. It is that time of the year again when we set our sights on the greatest aviation event of the year. Airventure/Oshkosh. I am getting ready to take flight in a few short weeks and plan on camping at Oshkosh this year once more. Hoping the weather holds out and allows me to make it there and back with not as many issues that I encountered on last year's voyage. If you ...

Hey I’m a retired ATPL pilot with Lancair 235 time, doing some training for an owner out here and while the 235 never required a HP endorsement before, it’s a 235/320 now and it does now. When we start flying again in March I’ll get the endorsement. Happy to fly with you in your plane after that. I’m at CZAM Shuswap Regional Airport.
@spikerK01 thanks for the offer. Got it all figured out. Got a new instructor that will be able to work with me. As of today, (because of weather and work related delays), I just have a few hours of night solo to do and beginning my commercial training in the Lancair! Thanks again. Maybe I will fly out your way when spring comes or if ever planning on coming out my way (CEA3), hit me up ahead of time and we can meet up!
Nice vinyl job! Can you tell me what brand of vinyl you used? I’d like to cover my wings.
Hi! Glad you like it! I have a whole series of video on it that describe the vinyl as well. Here is the link to the first one. ruclips.net/video/9co9NtdoTxw/видео.htmlfeature=shared The vinyl is 3m 2080.
An alternative engine can be a Steyr puch TR engine. Up to 64 HP .
Looking forward to having a new Lancair expert CFI in Canada 😉 I guess on the bright side, you can get twice as many flight hours for each circuit or approach in the 172! Well, maybe not a plus if you need to do a certain amount of approaches, and if you're paying by the hour...
Did a night cross country the other day and upon returning we were a direct in. At one point the instructor said that we are way out and I could speed up to which I replied, "this plane goes faster?? Say it ain't so!" lol. Thanks for writing!
Nice! When can I tag along amigo cheers
Happy Birthday! See you soon
1981 huh.... lmao, I do appreciate your world view & if I were any type of pilot, I'd want to be able to fly by "Instrument". What I'm seeing of many pilots is this resistance to using instruments & IDKnow all their reasons but the weather is a constant variable to deal with & perhaps you can fly visually most the time there will be that one time w/ fog, ice, snow, or thunderstorms right at the edge of darkness that will STRIKE. When it does, it might not go well. I'd hope/pray that everyone makes it down safely but as I've researched I'm seeing the same thing over/over again -n- again. And some of these pilots after many years of getting by get this "anti-authority" mindset as well which makes the holes in the swiss cheese line up faster. Good Idea to go train for instrument usage....... in fact it's a wise thing to do. All that from the most uneducated of your fans. peace Sir
Happy birthday Tony! 🎉🎉🎉
You didn't mention the importance of not stalling and staying fast enough in the Lancair 235/320/360 airframe. Stall-spin is the biggest danger in our planes.
You are correct, I didn't. To be fair, stall-spin is a danger in any plane :-) When I was learning to fly this plane, I spent lots of time in slow flight (70 knots) which is pretty close to stall and am quite comfortable flying in that range. While I was doing the initial test (with the test pilot), had to figure out where it stalled. I tapped the opposite rudder ever so lightly and she popped right into the incipient spin stage. Got her out of it right away.... but it did surprise me. Thanks for writing!
Glass Air, Lance Air, and some of your Cirus airframes are little speed demons.
Does Hummel have a two place with a 500 lbs for both people airplane kit?
Another 360 comes alive! Looks fast just sitting there!!!
As you know, I'm not even a pilot but I'm interested in this world enough to be "Subb'd Up" with you. I learned about problems with "Parts" several years ago dealing w/ automotive parts that were NOT what they were being sold as. Not long afterwards I learned about the Aircraft Industry's problems w/ parts that were certified but not at all what you were paying for. Some of the problems caused issues w/ commercial airlines & even the Presidential Plane, Air-force One" had also bought spare parts that weren't close to specs. The parts dealers are shuffling all kinds of crap at premium prices but people's lives hand in the balance. This is one of the biggest problems worldwide, as money gets tight we see companies & people willing to mislead buyers for the money...... Thanks for bringing this story out..... whatEVER the reasons.... lol, I'm able to digest the things you discuss whereas some of these YT Channels are not coming from the heart = You are & that's the difference in my most humble opinion. peace
¿Me pregunto que tiempo dura a la intemperie?
According to 3M 7-9 years if the vehicle is outside all the time. Since the plane is indoors most of the time, I expect that it can be longer than that.
@HUDPilot Excelente muchas gracias por responder.
Thanks, I've kinda come to like the "pusher" models, not that I care if a motor is in front but I imagine it's less noise behind you than in front & it opens the view. You also picked some of my FAV's so far but I had no idea about the costs associated w/ their use & upkeep? Thanks for all of this. peace Ohh, I like a "Cone" around my feet & legs as it seems unnatural to have them sticking out on landings.... kinda dangerous but maybe it's my phobia?
Cost would be a lot more reasonable but would have to do a deep dive. The folks I know with ultralights don’t spend much in regards to maintenance. As for enclosed, I constantly check if my wallet is still in pocket when I am driving and sitting in my car… can’t imagine how crazy I would get knowing that if my wallet falls out , it would fall out of the sky!!! lol.
Ahh, I'd not thought about all my sH!Te that I alread can't keep up with... lol, I think of the softest landings where you don't have a runway - in that situation any stick/branch, pipes or wires, and Lord forbid worse things can all tear you a new one? I'd hope this never happen but the "AirBike" model I've seen is a candidate for losing a leg. The Kolb and a couple others have a small cone or the Kit plane you said was built in but no doors. The Part 103 rules down here make it difficult as I'd want a 2 seat plane, perhaps pulling 1 seat out would allow you to comply but the room of the seat would offer a little bit of stuff to come along for the flight? You picked a group of aircraft that I've also picked as the ones I'd consider & thanks for adding the costs which I've got no idea of. peace & see you next video. GB
I'm not a pilot. But a guy who never owned a plane. Absolutely buy a new battery. I'd wire 2 batteries in series just to be safe. I don't own a plane . But absolutely have a good fresh battery. Any combustion engine needs a strong battery
You are an inspiration, probably a motivational speaker too..... Seamstress, Pilot, and ohh yeah >> that "Job" thing you do when you aren't here. Thanks for the video, Sir. peace & GB
Aw shucks. You are making me blush. Lol
When I told you I was too old, you laid it on me. You were right. I'd classify you as a, "One man wrecking crew" and that's not something that can be said of all people. Nope, I'm met many hard workers who were great at what they did but throw in anything out of the norm & they'd be at a loss. You on the other hand, just listed all the ways around oil, engine, battery, & dust conditions over the winter. You're thinking way out in front which is wise but the wrecking crew part comes in when you just don't give a damn what comes at you because if ya can't go over the mountain, you my friend will go right thru it. How do I know about these things.... I actually used to be that person & injury along w/ age has left me a little less confident. I appreciate seeing you run right at whatever's in the way..... Off to take care of my Mom, you have a great night, peace GB
On that next day you brought, "Positive Vibes" to the situation & I understand the need for those vibes. It's hard to look at something and this engine was at 300hours but needing that kind of extensive work. I'd have a hard time cutting my losses in this situation but that's my problem in life, I'll go thru something & let it nickle/dime me to death. Or I have in the past but this is your deal I watching and I do hope it works out well, 3 minutes left to see? peace
In the end. I think if I had put my ocd aside, I could have let it go and plane would have given me many more hours. But here we are. All is good so far!
@@HUDPilot - Now that's bringing some, "Positive Vibes" right on thru the internet !! Thanks for that, I appreciate it & my deal is more the medical but Part 103 is not off the table for me. Stay warm up there, peace
Look, I'm too old to think I'm gonna go get my pilots license & do all of this but I like seeing the numbers as they fall so I'm here to get the feel. Seeing the numbers is one sure fire method of knowing what one can handle in costs over the year & with all that I'm off to this video.... thanks for all the work. peace
Never too old. I’m about to turn 60 in a month and planning on embarking on a new path (will probably make a few vids on it) … going to work towards commercial and instructor rating. Planning on teaching beyond retirement. Don’t give up!!
@@HUDPilot I have no doubt that I can do it but I've got something that might keep me from the Licensed Pilot part but other than tight money nothing can stop me from some form of Pt 103 flight in the United States. You're a pretty impressive guy, not letting anything slow you down. That's a powerful testament to your resolve.
The SONEX Plane..... you sold yourself again as you made the video... lol, I admit I liked the way you framed it as well & I'm not even a pilot but in the dream of being one someday, this is a great sales launch for this plane. Yep, I liked it. peace
A lot of vibration. Is that normal?
Seems it is… just not used to is as I don’t feel it in my plane. The large swinging blade without any compensators seems to be the thing as it was explained to me.
In 1978 I bought a used glider with landing gear added. Never got this one up! ❤ I am now 68 but still want to fly. Thank you for this information. Am thinking about trying again one-day soon.
Never too late. I’ll be 60 this year and starting on advanced training. Two of the fellow I know are in the mid 60 and 70’s and just finishing up their helicopter license. Age is but a medical certificate away :-)
The Rans S-14 does not meet the Ultralight 254 pound weight requirement with any engine including a 447. This is a Light Sport aircraft and requires a certificate to fly it.
Yes, in the states. I am Canadian and it is an ultralight in Canada. Even mentioned in the video. Thanks for writing.
Nice video with great tips. Especially liked tip #8….in front of my blue and white Lancair 😂
Can’t only be RV’s in the clips lol.
Excellent job Tony! I figure you can park most kids at the sims and they'll figure out how to stay as long as they can. Air force looks like a good option for long term storage 😂😂
Long term is the key… and they come back with extra skills they picked up at “daycare” lol
Daycare, love it. You mention the noise, and Pioneer helicopters, but the constant helicopter noise is crazy inducing, especially before the show starts (the loop is just over homebuilt camping until the show starts). Still owe you a visit Tony.
It’s funny because I bring earplugs to sleep at night but forget to drag them around during the day. The raptor is the one that gets me each year. Lol.
Ha the RV and daycare bits really cracked me up. Good tips!
Glad I didn’t publish it while at Oshkosh… was afraid the RV gang would seek revenge lol.
Great video, thank you. Have you flown one of these? They look like a blast, and I'm sure a guy could get a speed higher than 63mph...though Part 103 requires that as a max speed, I know.
I guess I'm too close to the action to see the joke. (yes I got it).
Very nice 👍
Thanks tony! Loved the detail captured during landing!
Excellent..in the future suggest a video relating to special considerations about flying this model Lancair. Risk of canopy opening, critical airspeeds, common pilot mistakes, etc, thanks.
NICE CENTURION 210 FLIGHT TONY THEIR GREAT AIRPLANES, I HAVE ABOUT 500 HR,S IN ONE.
Simple…showing the pilots where to park in the confusing maze that is EAA as there are no real clear taxiways or marked parking spots
How you doing? Nice meeting you at Oshkosh and going to lunch with a bunch of Utah strangers to the hangar.
Heyyyy how u and the gang doin’? Lol. It was nice to allow me to join the gang. Oshkosh is like that right? Always new folks to meet and new friends to be made.
Hahahaa
The scooters are following the airplanes by being in front of them.
Because most RVs are from Texas and like a horse, you have to lead them to water.
It's mating season and the randy little planes will hump anything...
These comments make me weep for the people with no sense of humor that think every question is real.
Beautiful, Garry! Really glad you made it to Oshkosh. Wish I could have made it. I had airplane problems. SPAR AD. Finally completed. Osh next year! Maybe I’ll get to TKI later this year and get to see her myself.
For the same reason why an A380 chases an airport SUV at LAX. It's a pilot vehicle similar to the ones preceding a over-size load cargo on the Interstate.
Great episode. Love that airplane. Nice formation flying, he’s clearly done that before. Respect.
we carry a lot of common loot under the seat Water x1 Gatorade x4 Random Stickers x12 Orange Marshal Wand x2 (uncommon)
Hey, get back to work Carlo!
thanx
Ha, ha! I love it! I probably never would have thought of this myself. Good one.👍
The planes are coming in all hot and mad at the delay s and are hunting down any soft targets ,, you look and some are marking down kills on the fuselages , you see it a lot on the war birds !!😂
BEST answer yet!! Love it!!
They are guiding the planes on where to go.
Yes... But why did the scooter cross the road???
To try and escape the plane? Lol
