✅ Discover the High Elbow Catch Used by Top Olympic Freestyle Swimmers
Utilizing the SwimBETTER sensors, I discovered a recurring error in nearly all swimmers attempting to execute a HIGH ELBOW CATCH, and this same pattern is also evident in ELITE SWIMMERS and many BEGINNER SWIMMERS. Fortunately, I found an extremely useful tool to solve this problem. Discover the secrets of the high elbow catch used by top Olympic freestyle swimmers. In this video, I'll teach you how to maximize your propulsion by using the three support points: hand, forearm, and upper arm. Learn to correct your catch direction to swim faster and with less effort by increasing the efficiency of your stroke and avoiding common errors that we are unaware of.

Hi Coach Rafa, Very helpful demonstration as you teach us every time.... Many Thanks... But I have one suggestion I would like to discuss it with you... I See TI technique... The total body is submerged... It is good and help to relax muscles I agree... The swimmer is movinging like x Letter... Right leg with left arm then cross left leg with right arm.... Rotation occurs around center line of neck, stomach and hips... Full body almost submerged.... My suggestion is... Weakness here is drag force because full body merged.. Now if we think in different way... Consider body as a two horizontal cylinders (pipe) Right cylinder is =right arm+ right leg+ right chest Left cylinder same=left arm+ left leg+ left chest..... Now instead of moving like x letter as I explained above... Imagine swimmer will move like to horizontal cylinders or two horizontal pipe diamer of each cylinder say 20 cm... Then now I will Swimm like that... I split my body into three points of rotations... Feet, hips and shoulder... Now my both arm in the water in front of me and I am in flat position with water and my face looking down... Then I will roll my full body around spine line let us say I crawl by left arm... So I try to bring the left cylinder up (left arm, left shoulder with chest and left leg) At the same time the right cylinder will go down... My right hand in front I try to use it to increase area of uplift Then the submerged part of my body will be less then I will reduce the drag force so much and it will be faster... Hope further discussion from u about my suggestion... And hope this will enhance TI... But I am talking from principal of mechanics view point.. But we need to prove that practically... But I think this suggestion needs so most flexibility from swimmer and younger swimmers... All the Best Rafa Mecheil Edwar

Let me explain what you are saying from principal of Mechanics .... the swimmer add energy to his front part = Shoulders and two arms by hip rotation ... now adding rotational energy is not enough to move forward Why ??!! Because we need to convert rotational energy to translational energy so swimmer can move forward .... So How to Do That ??!! By Arm Movement ....... Raise Elbow Up ... When Hand insert to the water ...full rotational energy transfer to the arm ... Now extend the Arm by 30 Degrees with Water this will produce force on the arm .... part of this arm in motion direction so the swimmer will move forward ... another component of this force push arm down ...this will make down hill and gliding .... More clever swimmer who can transfer the maximum amount of rotation to translational energy same As greatest Coach Shinji Takeuchi (if spelling is correct) so Here I would like to say another observation ...your higher Arm High Elbow .. raising your hand ... all of these things to arrange the side of body that out of water to be ready to absorb rotational motion and convert to translational motion.... That is Why Coach Terry Laughlin he is one of the genius man in swimming ...because this man who was discovered this issue .... roll your body by core muscles ...transfer this energy to move forward ...very comfort .... the fatal mistake if swimmer could not convert this rotation to translational motion ... so the swimmer will roll only , slow motion , body will roll not move forward ... 1000 Million Thanks to Coach Rafa .. Your videos are impressive All the Best Mecheil Edwar

I love the way you explain this, Mecheil! Are you an expert in mechanics or physics? The precision of your explanation is impressive and perfectly describes the process of converting rotational energy into forward motion. As one of Terry Laughlin’s disciples, I’m thrilled to receive such intelligent comments like yours. I truly appreciate you sharing these insights here; it’s an approach that certainly enriches the knowledge of our community. A million thanks again, and warm regards!

@@EfficientSwimming Hi Rafa, Thanks for your kind comment , Yes I am Structural Engineer and I am Dealing With Mechanics , Generally , Fluid Mechanics if very complicated part specially for swimming ...as every muscle and every profile change of body in the water , the total distribution of forces on the swimmer , Speed , acceleration or deacceleration will totally changes ... so the best thing is to understand what is going on from first principles of physics or mechanics ... You are one who is doing this difficult study ... one of the best also is master coach Shinjh Tekuchi ( I hope spelling is correct) another one also is Coach Terry Laughlin but unfortunately he passed away ... What I am Doing , Just I am Trying to find a scientific bases for swimming mechanism .. Why rotation of hips give you more power as example ...many times concept of shifting a mass or weight ... Drag forces and so many ... as you know also the human skeleton is very complicated .... I am trying .. Also I am happy to find one coach like you try to make this link between science and swimming rules .... discussion of this part need hundred's of pages ... finally, thanks Rafa for your good self and your comment ... Please keep going and wish you and your group all the best Mecheil Edwar

Great As Usual Coach Rafa... Let me share my experience it may Help.... I noted for all fishes Head is fixed ... every thing comes after head.. What I mean ..Imagine there is something fix your head in the water ..head moves forward all times ..two arms move back and forward ... Every time get your chest little downhill.. imagine you are diving with little slope with water ...your head is reference point for whole body and front hand move forward and down.. and crawinling hand moves back ... and both moves parallel with center line of body all times..... every time when swimm do not feel your body is rolling .. no ... fell your body moves forward ..actually rolling push half side of body forward ..and half body back ...... rolling .. imagine you lie in a flat floating board in the water and you crawinlg by hand you roll to one side ..keep it aligned .. roll crefully to keep balance .. crawl by other side that automatically will roll your shoulders and chest .. when you crawl you try to keep you inertia force pushing you and board forward.... Many Many Thanks Coach Rafa .. You are one who explains Mechanics of swimming in excellent way.. All The Best Mecheil Edwar..

I've been struggeling working on proper rolling movement after the entry for quite some time now (which also had a negative effect on my breathing technique). This explanation will help me a lot working on my key issue - front arm movement after the entry! I've only tried to "swim tall" for a better glide and was very successful with one arm breathing drills but could never really "connect" when swimming. Looking forward to my next swimming session :)

Very well explained, thank you. One question though, what initiates rotation? Is it: the reach and stretch of your forward (gliding) hand; or, is it a muscular hip/ab flex; or, is it the well timed kick? Again thanks!
