How to free a stuck boat pedestal seat
Просмотров 82 тыс.7 лет назад
Excuse the language, as I was in a pretty bad mood as my seat post was jammed in my boat and I just wanted to fish. I tried hitting the post side to side with a block of wood and a tire iron but to no avail. (Yes I get mad and frustrated and hit stuff when it keeps me from fishing.) I even tried adding a bit of oil into the base and I still could not get it to go. I then googled how to fix this...
The Inflatable Life Vest Incident
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.7 лет назад
Looks like both of my inflatable life-vest decided to blow up on me. Learn from my mistake about inflatable life vest storage. :-( Please comment and let me know why you think this may have happened. I am thinking it was either because of the humidity in the storage compartments or a leak in the boat cover, because the carpet was dry as a bone when I checked today, and the life jackets were put...
This is Why You Get Boat Insurance. Bottom End Decimated on Lac Des Mille Lac
Просмотров 2227 лет назад
This bottom end was decimated in a boating mishap, at only around 20 to 25 mph. This is why you need to get boat insurance. Normally I hate paying for insurance, but the cost to repair this bottom end is equal to over 10 years of insurance payments. This happened on Lac Des Mille Lac, and we usually get about five like this off Lac Des Mille Lac each season.
Trout Fishing For Fall Lakers - RAW Footage

A quick mash of some of the raw unedited footage from our last trout fishing trip in North Western Ontario.
Their eating the dogs
Wear a life jacket you nutcase.
This video was like watching paint dry.
Another tip is to get some big channel locks. Put a rag around the pedestal to somewhat protect it, then try twisting the pedestal back and forth. Helped me one time.
I'm get ready to do this myself... Who is gonna take their seats out and put them up for the winter , On a sixteen foot bass boat ....we use covers and tarps ha
Put grease down in the hole.
Iooked like a monkey having relations with a football for the first time. Keep her lubes up next time.
So, I drilled a hole through my post and use an electric winch in my shed to remove it. And for the wankers (Springfield), we don’t have an off season in Australia. Mate, you’re right, it’s Chinese junk 🤬👹
The real question is why aren’t the masses smart enough to to lubricate it with anti seize before inserting it?
Having this problem or really side affect for having non-wobbly seat pedestals, I solved it by installing split rings with a 60mm ID onto the seat pedestal about 1/2” above the base plate. Once installed, using a small pry bar or even screwdriver, the seat assembly lifts right out by prying upward on the split collar with one hand and gently pulling near the top of the pedestal back toward the pry bar side to balance pry forces. Easy peazy.
Do you have any pics of your idea? Got the same problem with 3 of them on my boat
Dude…just unscrew the base 😂
Springfields don’t unscrew they have a release button.
When mine got stuck I just brought along the biggest, strongest fishing buddy and told him the beer cooler was under the seat.
Are you kidding me?
I have the same problem with mine. My front seat is stuck and it’s in my way when I try to use a cast net or fly rod. I may try this with the bottle jack that came with my Tacoma if it goes up high enough.
Ah
Waaa
Ah, the joys of boating.
After getting frustrated myself with the exact same problem and turning to RUclips, saw your video. I did mine with a bottle Jack and came out easily. Thanks for the idea. 👍
I have the same issue, Will give this a try as well. Then grease the hell out of it so it doesnt happen again
Hey how’s the etec been treating you?
This was a great solution. I’ve applied silicon to avoid this but it never works. Thanks for the video!
I tried silicone too. And… here I am at this video. So annoying
I have put light grease on mine but still stuck
You didn't see it move slightly upwards as you were using the scissor jack? I saw it clearly move in your video, so you were making progress and eventually it would be free.
Never seize the base before reinstalling it❤️
I have the luck that the jack would have broken the bottom of the seat. Then I would have been angry at myself for not waiting until I got home to work on it.
Oh no! It looks like you ran into a rare problem that can occur with plug-in pedestals of any brand. Sorry you experienced so much frustration! If you want to prevent this problem from happening in the future, we recommend that you stow the pedestal when not in use. This is especially important during seasonal changes or when towing your boat. The reason the plug-in posts can jam up when they aren't regularly stowed is because the tolerance on the posts must meet a certain criteria to ensure safety and eliminate any wobbles. With that said, seasonal elements and stagnant moisture can cause expansion, which leads to unwanted jams. Another tip is to make sure the base is clean and clear of any debris prior to installation. We hope these tips help!
"rare problem" hahahaha
rare problem hahaha I on utube because mine is stuck!! I usually use A strap wrench . No not working today so searching for other Idears
Its such a rare problem 4 of the 6 on one of my boats is stuck and all 3 on a boat I sold. Take them out 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 They're stuck when I put them back in, before I get a chance to sit on them. You know, if I can put the seats in and they're stuck before I even sit in them, they are shit!
I got a brand new trackboats v16 today, and all of three seat posts got stuck.
Rare??? Still some wankers around eh?
I don't understand these damn things and it's not just Springfield's. I see people's comments, but they've never used these. This man could have removed the whole thing, took it back to his bench vise, but when you plan on fishing.... "Anti-seize" works amazing, but keep a rag close by it has a tendency to find itself everywhere and you won't know how it got there :-/ Well I have one myself I have to get after arrgh! UPDATE: OK, it's a few minutes later and it's out. Mine are the 3/4" EZ-Swivel and they wedge in so tight. I pulled the seat and clamped my locking-pliers (vise grips) on the post to use it as a lever. Pushed & pulled a few times and it began to spin. Success. I know this is not the same seat post is this gentleman's but this was the only video I found. I hope this helps.
when get mine out I am going to try Anti Seize . Was thinking bout that
He did so many things wrong had to know where to start, first learn how to use jack, but shouldn’t have to use jack at all
Yeh, but they made a hell of a virus
Its the best motor bro ....
People like this amaze my of how smart I am. Take the floor bracket off and put it in a vise, and figure out what wrong with it. Probably just needs lube. Had to use heat on my bracket it slid right off.
Yeah, remove the floor bracket? Brilliant, now you climb your fat ass in the hull and hold the nut on the underside with a wrench while I drink a few beers and take the bolts out topside. You so smart.
Unless there is something wrong with mine. Should I just not put the bobbin in?
They charge when they simply get wet
Bitch a little more why don’t you, putz.
Thanks! Used a floor jack. Worked great. Now greasing the poles. Lol
Anwsome motor 😎
That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. the seen is cocked sideways which is making it even harder to come out. Be a man and grab that thing and pull straight up. then put some drislide lube on it.
What prop size mate
15 Pitch Evinrude Prop. The basic 13 splines they come with. Thing looks as big as a dinner plate.
@@canuckoutdoors8452 haaa thanks mate
@@canuckoutdoors8452 is that a 145 Escape?

Wish I had that 4 minutes back
Use drill with jack crank to raise and lower jack
*Lightweight, good fit, easy to use with highback kayak or SUP>>>**allabout.wiki/vbg3** I love all the pockets things stay very secure, and I can hold a ton of stuff. Zipper works well, seems to be a bit of a low quality zipper but so far so good.*
This happens to my pedestal seats all the time. I get sick of having to remove them completely from the floor just to get the pole out! It’s absolutely ridiculous. This actually stared happening to me a year after buying my bass tracker band new! I even took the poles out and sanded on them some where they insert in to the floor. It helped some. Might have to try sanding them down a little more.
Hi there! We commented above, but wanted to make sure you saw our tips: "If you want to prevent this problem from happening in the future, we recommend that you stow the pedestal when not in use. Don't hesitate to reach out to our customer service line at Springfield Marine if you ever find yourself in a jam with our products (no pun intended). This feedback helps us to improve our products and services. :)
That’s because bass trackers are junk
@@springfieldmarinecompany But whats your tip for getting them out once stuck?
@@toddbollen1455 Sell the boat.
@@stumpbumpers hahaha I got it out with A strap wrench and lots of spray letting soak in..I put it back it with never seize and I pushed the button lock inside tube so ot won t lock in again..
A big screwdriver would work better then a crowbar.
Next time use a dub of motorkote. No, not an engine oil! Motorkote, and seat will come off much easier
This guy is an absolute moron! Unbolt it from the floor spray it with some liquid wrench and tap it off with a rubber mallet!!
Okay, so it was less then four minutes to pop this seat out at the boat ramp with no tools either then what was in the tire change kit on my vehicle which any tow vehicle would be carrying. Though your solution to unbolt the seals and knock the post out would almost work (if it were not for the fact that the bottom of the base is sealed and you cannot acess it from the otherside even after removing the base.) It would take much longer and require tools that I do not carry around with me. Even if your solution was practical I would effectively have to take the boat back to the shop to access tools to do this (a half hour drive each way), then spend 20 minutes of my time in a perfect scenario removing the screws, tapping out the base, and then resealing and installing the base. However with my solution I did it in under five minutes. Also so you understand how the base is installed, the seat base is installed by 6 self tapping screws that come coated with sealant at the factory directly form Alumacraft. The bottom of the base is solid and water tight. So upon removal the screws they have to be replaced with new sealed screws, or you could apply sealant to the new screws (which I do not carry around with me either). Also after that it would be smart to seal the base as well, which most are, as water intrusion into the plywood and foam is not generally a good thing. Furthermore you also have to hope that previous holes still holds the screws and do not get reamed out. If as much as one of them goes out you are SOL on all of them as you have to rotate the base and start again. Also since the diameter of the base remains consistent and cannot be changed you cannot just add bigger screws either. So you would have to then rotate the base on the spot after filling all the previous holes with sealant, and then pre-drill all new pilot holes, and then re-coat the screws and add them and then reseal the base. At least that is the proper by the book way to do it. So I am not sure how doing it a much more efficient way makes me a moron. I guess the last five years of working at and managing a marine dealership just sort of got to my head a bit. But I have only installed maybe 20 or 30 of them tops, so maybe I leave it for smart guys like yourself now.
works every time, work smarter not harder. Some Wd40 goes a long ways preventing this
Probably wouldn't hurt to put a little lube on them before putting the base tube back in the next time.
Yeah I do lube them. For some reason the rear base was warped. This was the first time I tried using it. The seat still works great in all the other holes. We have replaced a few of the bases where I work already.
You use a flathead screwdriver and pry the button in. Then you hit it With the hammer handle a few times around it and then she pops out. Don't bash a company because you don't lube your seats man.
Seats are lubed regularly. Only the rear hole sticks, it was deformed from factory. I work at a large volume marine dealership and we change multiple bases per year from this brand.
Blake Dennis I lube the shit out of mine and they still stick
What button?
@@trevorwillis967 Some similar bases have button to release a plastic safety pin. It keeps the seats from flying out.
Next time work smarter, not harder. Unscrew the base from the floor and remove entire assembly - seat/post/base. Then tap the base off with a mallet instead of fighting with it...works every time. Youre welcome.
This way took less then 5 minutes, and it was accomplished with the tools I had at the boat ramp. It as more of a video on what to do in a similar situation. If I was at my shop I could of done it the way you suggested. The rear base actually was warped on the inside. This has happened to a few other customers boats as well.
won't work base screws turn have nut on bottom side no access to them ???
Except for when it doesn't, mallet doesn't do anything
NEVER SEIZE THE BITCH❤️❤️
@@canuckoutdoors8452 except for the pole was clearly bent and ruined. There’s no way in hell this took you 5 minutes because the video is 5 minutes and begins with you saying “tried the jack and tried bashing it out” 😂😂
All inflatables will inflate with moisture except those with an HIT inflator ! They operate under hydrostatic pressure!
