Oselvarverkstaden
Добавлен 6 мар 2018
The Oselvar is among the very few types of small Norwegian boats build traditionally. All the knowledge assembled by generations of boat builders is taken care of, and passed on to the younger craftsmen being trained at the centre. The secrets of the trade have been passed down from generation to generation, in a line of tradition going back to the Viking Age, more than 1000 years.

How to build a traditional wooden boat
The Oselvar is a very old type of boat, and over the past few hundred years, it has been the most commonly used small boat along the Hordaland coast, both for fishing and transport. Developments over the past century have transformed it into a purely recreational boat, and in the summer of 2009, the Oselvar was named Norway's National Boat.
The boatbuilding tradition in Os has remained unbroken for at least the past 250 years, and all the accumulated knowledge related to boatbuilding has thus been preserved. In 2016, the Oselvar and the Oselvar culture were added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.

Kr.) På 1800-talet...

Trunnels. Fantastic work.

Follow the work here: facebook.com/Oselvarverkstaden/
Absolutely wonderful! What talent!
Loved the video, the methods, the tooling, pleased to be the1000th sub.
These guys have their poop together.
Il vostro lavoro è meraviglioso. Precisione estrema, chiodi in rame, sarà una barca bellissima. Congratulazioni.
Amazing craftsmanship
That was a real pleasure to watch I would be honoured to sweep their work shop
😃😃😃
What’s he shaping at 2:30? Forward/ aft garboard section ? Rather than steaming in?
3" plank shaped and thinned to 5/8 " that holds its shape over time better than steamed plank. Steaming have also been normal on this type of boat. But its considered something that was done to save time and build quicker. And loose some of the performance in the boat.
You have great team work. You do a beautiful job. Yes. I like the dog too. In fact i love you all.
The knowledge, craftsmanship and attention to detail is amazing. Great to see people keeping the boatbuilding tradition going.
Splendid boats, crafted with love & care. Thank u for sharing those joyful moments of creation! 🎉 'Hola from Barcelona city, Catalonia. Please start a 'teaching project workshop' here (in the Naval Museum?) & let me know! Thank you 🌿🙏🧜♂️
How do you balance artistic integrity with commercial demands when working on wood sculpting projects? Have you ever had to compromise your vision, and how did you feel about the outcome?
Dad was a cabinet maker/finish carpenter . I'd sit on a stool and watch him build a kitchen worth of cabinets in the garage, load up the station wagon , drive to the new home, and install it all. I like to see and hear the planes shaving the curls in the boatwright shop. Bless all of you.
It is a wonderful sound isn't it? I never tire of it.
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Wow, great video, thanks. From the forest to the water.
Wow. Every tool in the shop is scary-sharp. Which makes hand work take less effort AND gives better surface finish. Great to see (and hear...)
Very beautifully done. How I'd love to own a boat like that. With the sail up to me looks like paradise. Such dedication to detail.
you aren't going to fit many slaves in something that small.
Each boat is a work of art !

A beautiful craft.
Fantastic!
Absolutely incredible work. Well done to all the boatbuilders. It's great to see these skills being retained perfected and passed on to another generation.
Im just really glad Greta Tunberg has found a passion in boat building - hope =you have a sense of humour this is really amazing and fantastic artisanship all of you are really inspirational .
I wonder how Greta travels for her conferences. By sailboat?
@@miguelsuarez8010 да! Но возвращается на авиалайнере.
😂
First get a chainsaw.
First, plant the seeds.
Any money in boat building?
No.
They look just like a Scottish yole, unsurprisingly so, due to the cross cultural ties between the Orkneys, Shetlands and N Scotland with Norway.
Amazing to see the whole thing start to finish and with such skill and craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing
Beautiful craftmanship!
var dette ein sekæring med fire keipar?
Her er det vel seks keipar?
Excellent video. Thank you.
No doubt about it.
Excellent workmanship and detail. Hey from Tarpon Springs, Florida - SV Free Spirit
Incredible skill !
Wondering, is the boat for fun, sport or work? Is the wood air dry or kiln dry? I would expect the wide planking to crack, how do you prevent that from happening or do you expect it to ctack and deal with it at that time? Keep up the good work! JIM 🥰
This type of boat has existed along the west coast of Norway for more then thousand years. Originally it was used for fishing and transport. Today it is a leisure boat. The Oselvar has also been named Norway's National Boat.
Good to see such young men AND women with great traditional skills.
Is this a historical, or traditional boat? are there plans or lines drawing for it? great work, looks like a fun project!
Yes, the Oselvar is a traditional boat. We do not use drawings. Knowledge of construction is transferred from teacher to student
Ain’t a straight line on her anywhere. Beautiful!
