I do a version of this. When I get candy or snacks with a variety mixed together (like skittles or Chex mix) and there are ones i don’t like, I eat them first. I feel wasteful picking out what I do like and leaving the other stuff and would get in trouble for that as a kid, so instead I eat that first to get it out of the way. I’ve eaten so many licorice and cinnamon jelly beans as the first ones out of the package instead of just throwing out the bad ones (no one in the house likes those). At this point it feels like a cleansing ritual to grab a towel and pick out the licorice and cinnamon (or whatever is the undesirable bit in that snack) ones and suffer through them before actually getting to what I like. It really does feel like a sacrifice. I hate it. Ira candy and snacks. It’s not a big deal if some get thrown out. I’m not saving any starving children by choking down candy I don’t like. I’m just punishing myself for no reason. But that urge not to waste anything is strong, and it does manifest in treating my body like a trash can.
Uh no.. I’d cover it in dish soap and throw it in the trash.

That's not what binge eating is. But that is still a disordered form of eating for sure.
But, how to handle with it ?
That was my mom and that is me, too. She always did that and I picked up the idea. It’s really an excuse to eat all the cake now instead of dragging it out. Notice that no one is rushing to get all of the kale out of the house.😂
Omg me when my mother makes food even i dont want it im going to eat it cause if i dont empty the pan she will guilt trip me to no end
OMG this is so me.
I do this but that is because when I was a kid I was scared it wouldn’t be available as other members of family would eat it before tmrw comes… so I eat as much as I possibly could shovel in. A good mentality to help you all is that you could enjoy it longer freeze it for another weekend cut it up etc

I am pregnant and when I was having really bad morning sickness this was me 24/7, now its become me 23/7
That’s what I do a lot of the time, only way to get rid of the food is to binge eat all of it so it’s all gone, I have that eating disorder + not wanting to be wasteful combo
also eating all the time like all the time despite what food u r eating.
It is for me
I always hated “wasting” food/money I had spent on it. I try to remind myself that either way, the money has been spent and the food will be “gone” rather if i eat it or if i throw it away. It’s like giving myself permission to throw the food away. It helps.
ADHD makes this ten times worse for me as well. it’s like if it’s in the house I know it’s there and I physically cannot focus on anything else unless I throw it out, give it to someone else, or more often than not just eat it all 🥲
what about eating something because your family says "if you don't eat it i'll throw it away"? i just can't deal with waste of food
Another fun one is “eating food before someone else eats it and youre left with nothing”. Money would instantly fix this but hey

I always do this cuz I don’t want to overeat, I hate how I always do ts😭😭
I do this. Then I restrict myself to protein shakes out of guilt for several days until the cycle starts again when I’m so bored with the shakes. It’s awful and I don’t know how to stop it. I’m not a teenager, either. I’m well into upper middle age and the problem didn’t start until about five years ago.
What about a compulsion to eat every single bit of food on your plate even if it makes you sick because you grew up poor with a lot of siblings and had to be competitive with food

DUDE LITERALLY. The thing is, I like with like 5 other people and im the one thats most picky about food compared to everyone else when it comes to its “nutritional” value. I say that yet i catch myself binge eating these things to get them out the way since there is way too much of it sometimes..

nah i’d rather eat it once/twice & clear it- than have it longer losing its freshness and having continuous sugar intake to mess up my skin.
Meeeeee, but I finally incorporated protein from animal sources into my meal plan, and I’m in the process of healing my relationship with food.
