1973 Chevrolet Caprice Classic quick drive
The car recently turned 5000 miles, I got all the little bugs sorted out and thought I’d share a quick clip. I’m just barely pushing the pedal on this carbureted 489.

I managed to get this car all sorted out, and here it is just idling. So quiet and smooth! Cars that are supposed to be loud are fun when loud. But this era Cadillac is best when it’s electric motor quiet.

I am doing a frame off restoration on my 1973 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, which I’ve owned since 1987. The two biggest things to note are this is the original color and it’s a numbers matching big block car. Originally a 454, now it’s 489. This is the first time the car moved under its own power.

This was the first time the car hit the road. Complete frame off restoration, all work done by me. I had no idea how it would go, so I took no tools. It went great!

Idling the 489 big block. Mild roller cam, around 9.5:1 compression, quiet mufflers. Numbers matching big block car.

I finished the restoration of my 1973 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, then immediately moved to a new house. I’ve been too busy to drive it, so this is the only video of it. Hope you enjoy the sound of that 489!

Dropping that 489 into the 1973 Caprice Classic. Just a raw video of the installation, quite boring at times, but nice to see it going in.

Taking the 1963 Eldorado Biarritz out for a short drive to the store. The sound on the video came out a little loud; the car is actually very quiet.

Walk around and start. Sound is much louder on the video than in person! I shot this video when I first bought the car. Since then, I’ve gone through it and fixed all of the little problems. I replaced all of the exhaust gaskets; it idles much quieter now.

I worked that pipe for a while searching for the perfect open header sound without all of the obnoxious raspiness.

Realy nice 73!! My father had a 1968 impala 4 door flavor when i was a young kid, and when i was 19 i bought a 1973 impala 4 door as wel, i own it now for 6 years, had it reprainted, i am never going to sell it!! Greetings from holland europe :)
@@maxgrouwstra754 very nice!
Bellissima originale👍👍👍
What about the horn?
Yes.
Does the radio work?
It does. I even bought a new speaker for it.
This fatboy looks like my 99 fatboy. Mine is all stock and red also. I also have a 99 heritage springer with the evo motor.
Terrific 1973 Chevy Caprice Classic
@@kjchicago1 thank you very much. It’s been four years and I’m still having a blast with it.
looks great but engine sounds unhealthy
There was a little intake leak back then, but other than that, it’s in great shape. The sound may just be off from my recording device.
@@mrmichael555 could hear the hestitation when you goosed the throttle..she is clean though!! love my 96
@@USNVA-yn6cpI totally agree. It was a very cold day and it had been sitting for a month. That hesitation goes away once it warms up a little more. That intake leak was bad. Like you, I love the evos!
I'm literally in tears. We had Chevys of that vintage my entire childhood, they're so underrated and under appreciated..Cherish that vehicle
That’s very touching! I’ve owned this since I was 17; I’m in no hurry to get rid of it. There’s more pictures of it on Instagram @mrmichael555 if you’re interested.
You are braver than me .i never turn mine over without holding the clutch ,just in case. Mine is a twin cam ,special mettalic paint ,extra chrome 12000 miles 2002. Beaut bikes
Very good point, that’s a bad habit I have. I put a lot of trust in that green neutral light!
@mrmichael555 A buddy of mine had a beaut springer ,he started it that way in his garage ( door shut ) and the bike shot foreward and fell over .Worse was he had a disc lock on ,which totally messed up the disc. I forgot the repair cost, but it was mind boggling. Lol
@@John-ob7dhthat’s terrible. I’m in the process of changing my habit.
Doing A Pretty Good Job With this 1973 Chevy Caprice Classic-It’s Gonna Look Real Good once it’s done
It turned out great!
Idiot can Not start a Harley EVO 😢👎👎👎
Clean dash no cracks and the original radio !!
I pulled that dash out of a wrecked ‘72 in 1986! I’m surprised it hasn’t cracked yet. I installed an aux plug on the preamp side of the radio so I can connect to my phone via Bluetooth for the music.
My brother have a 1976, it in dark barn, and after 10 years no drive in the dark, the dash is cracked in my 1973 the same problem a crack left from the musix box holes in de dash..@@mrmichael555
and where are the sun visors ??
I was going round and round for a year trying to buy new ones from the headliner people. I installed them shortly after this video.
What is that noise from that engine ? i have the same car the 400 cu inch , my engine is still, you have problems with the hydraulic valves ?? maybe the need a good clean ....
This was a frame off restoration, with zero miles when I recorded this. The engine was completely rebuilt. It has forged pistons and hydraulic roller cam. The sound you may be hearing was an exhaust leak in the crossover in the intake manifold. Since then, I’ve sorted it out and it’s nice and quiet.
Hier word ik héél gelukkig van❤
Thank you!
there's a guy in texas, corvette Ben that has a 56 and he has like 80+ videos on it. He had his 365 rebuilt...that is where I am at so I am zipping along on RUclips looking for 1956 cadillac coupe devilles. Mine was grey per the paint code, but is black lower and white roof. White iwth a black roof also looks sharp, so does a solid black car ..IDK ... I do know, first we get it running...
I’ll check that out, thanks!
😭it's too beautiful to buy it 😭

So beautiful, obviously there was no detail overlooked here! You were lucky to get that back window out without breaking it!
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯💯🇺🇲🇺🇲
Bad Azz beautiful colors
When real, good quality automobiles were produced, unlike that cheaply made chevy there.
Thank you for the kind words. The truck you noticed is up to 294,000 miles, and has never missed a beat since I ordered it new in ‘96!
How many miles on your bike?
37,000.
Beautiful ! I just came across your channel in my feed actually and I'm happy to support your efforts and those of other fellow moto content creators. I look forward to seeing and hearing more from you in the future, keep up the great work and ride safe out there.
I LOVE OLD CADDIE CONVERTIBLES. STR8 UP GANGERZTER MOBILES 🕶
why were you taking the glass out? Was the window frame rusty?
The frame was not rusty, but the window leaked. I eventually stripped the entire car and media blasted everything.
🥰🥰🥰 Pure gorge!!! 🥰🥰🥰
I love my Yamaha Drag Star!
Nice bike, what year is your drag star? I looked at the road stars for a long time, but the Fatboy with the evolution engine just appealed to me a little more.
I have a Drag Star Classic too. It's looks similar to Fat Boy, but from Japan :)
@@mrmichael555 2005 😉👍
Maravilloso!
Thank you!
Measured in yards, not feet.
Believe it or not, it’s no longer than a regular cab long bed pickup truck.
Such a beautiful car
So beautiful, I am so envious.... Is your 489 based on the 454 big block? So many fond memories of nearly that same car. Just wish I could have resurrected it the way you did.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, this 489 is based on a 454, the original 454 to the car. It’s the traditional 1/4” stroke crank with a 0.030” overbore. I’m happy and fortunate that I was able to restore this car. I’ve owned it since 1987!
@@mrmichael555 I had to let go of mine in 1990, the rust got the best of it here in the northeast. Sure wish I had taken better care of it...
@@donk499 this one wasn’t too bad, but I still had to cut some rust out after all the years in western Pennsylvania.
It looks and sounds nice.
Thank you. It’s a lot of fun!
Does it?
What about the radio?
It works. Stock am with one speaker. I installed an aux plug and have a Bluetooth connection to my phone.
She's a beauty!!
Last year of the big fins. The 1964 model had miniscule fins and they were gone altogether in 1965.
stock exhaust ?? sounds so nice
Thanks. It is stock exhaust, cored with a little baffle in there to get rid of the droning.
gorgeous in every way!!
Thank you very much!
"promo sm" 👍
My Grandpa had a 1973 like yours. He passed away in 1982 and then one of my uncles owned it for a long time.
Was a hard boot available in that year?
I don’t know for sure.
Love Rudi he is cool
Drove one in 1970 while in high school, white with red leather interior.
That would be neat!
I had one. Good lake cruiser.
for sale?
No, we intend to keep this one.
Nice! 😍
Thank you!
Love the '63's. I had a sedan, but this Eldorado convertible blows the sedan away.
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. The sedans and six windows look good too!
This is exactly what I decided today to do for my truck door this weekend. I've had it with cheap pot metal bushings. I have some bronze rod laying around, though I don't know the exact allow grade, but its gotta be better than that crap Dorman uses.
I used 936 bearing bronze, but honestly, any bronze will work. I don’t remember what I said in the video, but I redesigned the hinges for much bigger bearings. The doors shut like a bank vault now.
