    Any recommendations to increase satiety? I'm interested in supplements. I thought about glucomannan or soaking chia seeds not sure which method may work better.

    • @Casespecificnutritionrdn
      @Casespecificnutritionrdn 2 месяца назад

      Great question, Marcel. To increase satiety at meals, I would recommend getting adequate fiber and protein intake at meals. There are no supplements or hacks we can recommend if you aren't already doing those things! And careful with chia seeds in water, you can easily get TOO much fiber and cause digestive discomfort that way. You're better off just getting enough fiber through a whole foods based diet. Hope this helps! ☺ - Devon

    I don’t believe this!! 😂😂 it’s very acidic and a baby doesn’t need caffeine

    • @andrewwade3957
      @andrewwade3957 2 месяца назад

      Acidic beverage going into a vat of acid (your stomach) is a null fear mongered pseudo science, especially when paired with a meal that has foods of varying acidity. While a baby doesn’t “need” caffeine, small doses does not effect them, and it can be helpful for the moms heart and nervous system (doses under 200mg). That’s before we factor in the thousands of antioxidants and compounds in coffee that have a positive effect on physiology. This drink isn’t for baby- it’s for mommy. But it is safe for baby in moderation. Believe what you will but science has spoken 🎤

      This sounds like a great idea for another video. The goal of this one was more of a big picture view. As a practice with as many specialists as we have, we work with everyone. Digestion, Metabolism, Chronic Disease, Sports Performance, Eating Disorders- we have specialists at CSN with that area of focus and experience. Perhaps we should do a subset of this video on what to expect when meeting with each subspecialty- thanks for the idea!

    I am thinking of possibly working with dietician again, depending on what my cholesterol blood tests show. I have struggled with majorly high cholesterol, and am on cholesterol meds. However, I also struggle with laziness so I often skip breakfast in the morning (will have my coffee), usually skip lunch except for having some chocolate and more coffee, maybe a small protein snack before figure skating at the rink, then whatever I can get my hands on when I get home...or ordering pizza or something. It kinda sucks. Perfectionism also gets in the way, and I also have had perfectionistic tendencies with food in the past. Yet, I am also scared of my cholesterol numbers going very high (I was once at a 350) again, but I know that my body needs the energy to be able to skate, run (may be marathon training this summer), do gymnastics, play in band, and just live my life in general. However, I will say that my first experience with a dietician was not a positive one. I basically saw a dietician who looked deathly thin herself, got a bunch papers basically telling me "Eat this, not that," and being told "You can eat that, but....." ALL of which was very triggering my perfectionism, and basically had me leaving the office in tears. I didn't go back. However, maybe giving it a second shot might be worth it. I also will say that I am in therapy for PTSD, but it also involves working on my perfectionism, so this would be in conjunction with that in a way....in the way of getting myself healthier physically and mentally.

    Interesting, I've been suffering with some form of IBD for some time, hospital test inconclusive,they wanted to do more, but I had enough, what I found was that Low Fodmap helped a lot, but when I narrowed it to Low Fodmap Paleo it worked much better, Paleo itself allowed some high fodmap fruits, which didn't work and sweet potato a big no no ! Also have to be careful of banana if still have diarrhea, so added some white potatoes or white rice instead to make up carbs, woolah success l Paleo low fodmap works nicely, but they are not identical, but by combining both could work for some others like me, thank you for your podcast .

    I think everyone should consider it especially 72+ h fasts once in a while. Some of the many benefits of fasting and a lower carb whole food diet on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data: The hunger hormone ghrelin lowers over time with extended fasting and rise from dieting Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system. Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic. Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque. Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy! Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS. It's absolutely fine for cortisol to be high while fasting, because it produces sugar from fat instead of lean tissue ruclips.net/video/giEDadzoErs/видео.html Does the body prefernetially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, it never uses mainly glucose for fuel and using glucose for fuel is very biochemically damaging! ruclips.net/video/Nf1jwMbvNxw/видео.html The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! Is fasting just the same as caloric restriction? No! Dieting increases the hunger hormone ghrelin while fasting decreases it and has many other health benefits! ruclips.net/video/sVl-nilhWLc/видео.html When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state. It stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses. Does fasting burn muscle? In most cases no! ruclips.net/video/teQIaU6wp2o/видео.html Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: ruclips.net/video/5RM8GRzsIIg/видео.html Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! ruclips.net/video/BeC_gIR2Z14/видео.html Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging. Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Autophagy induced by fasting even helps hair regrow. What breaks a fast? ruclips.net/video/7aRLsCpxy3o/видео.html Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it and builds muscle! ruclips.net/video/fJUDucBWv4s/видео.html Fasting reverses metabolic syndrome, which is tightly correlated to Chronic Fatiguque Syndrome, high blood pressurecancer and many other chronic diseases. Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice. Julie here. Excellent. Andrew and Devon. Andrew has shared the story of his rottweiler dopamine fix with me on one of our phone consults and could just imagine him in that comfy, relaxing time. I'm glad that worked for you, Andrew. And, Devon, you should be proud of how you conquered your nail-biting. I have an AWFUL habit of "picking" at the psoriasis scales on the elbow side of my lower arms. I can't stand the dry skin just hanging there. Your lotion made me think that I can put moisturizer on my tray that I have beside my chair. Hopefully, I can remember to use the moisturizer when I catch myself picking and scratching. I'm still working on breaking the night-time eating habit. Andrew and I have talked about that before and the reasons of why I am doing that. I'm sure we can talk about it more at our next consult. Thanks for the video, you two. I'm sure it will give many a place to start when trying to kick their bad habits.
