Man, calling the new German Veterans a "monkey's paw" feels too accurate. I actually got a Pioniere kit at my FLGS a couple weeks before that new kit was revealed. I gotta say, it's not a complete replacement. The Pioniere came with their giant backpacks, a flaregun-turned-AT rocket, a Goliath mine, a mine detector, arms with grenade bags under them. It's got a lot of details that this one doesn't, but this one will include 6 AT rifles, flamethrowers, and AT-grenade launchers per kit. It feels really excessive in that department. And yeah, it's missing some things that feel like they should be standard. I'm relatively new to Bolt Action, but I found having prone models from the Pioniere kit (based on Blitzkrieg Germans) was eye-opening for possibilities! I had a whole new range of poses that I could use. I'm tapped-out when it comes to infantry anyways. Maybe once I finish with both of the armies I have started I'll see if they start selling individual sprues from this kit and will pick one up. I think that will do me more good than a whole new box.

There is one last thing that I wish I had recorded. It was so mind-numbing that I want to believe it was a fever dream. If you drop the bloodied weapons to boost the fire power of an ally in event, they can't pick them up unless they unlock them too. I noticed it when a guy highlighted an STG44, which is impressive to have ground out on the first day. Message appeared letting me know it was part of 2024 Halloween Battlepass.... Thankfully everyone can get the FG42 at Rank 2.

I noticed that the details were sharper on the cavalry than the infantry when I got my oathmark elves. I still like the infantry but the cavalry are definitely nicer when examined closely. I'm not sure that the designs were primarily based on warhammer fantasy - they have a lovely dark age aesthetic that fits perfectly into Tolkien's Middle Earth - the books and not the movies. A lot of other people have noticed this too, and oathmark elves in particular seem to have become the go-to models for people wanting to do First Age elves in 28mm. That's what I bought mine for. I've also heard that the designer was a Tolkien fan, and the design of all the models, elf or goblin or dwarf fits that thesis perfectly.

Really great vid, very informative and honest, which is really refreshing.To be honest, they tided the V2 rules up, but destroyed the game with the cover save, base of 4 and the new platoon building system. I’m moving away from the game until they create a better version.

Just got the elven cavalry, infantry and light infantry boxes to use with OPR Age of Fantasy Regiments. Added a WFB mage and some reavers I got off EBay. Excited to start on them!

Oathmark is a great game with great models. I love the old time Tolkien feel of them. Love that dark age look. As for the the bases some vallejo basing paste hides that really well. You can easily make the base top level even with that and put a few grass tufts

Great video, just about to start Bolt Action as my brother has played it for years. You mentioned Dropfleet which is great fun and just about to get a new edition and faction. Great time to give it a go!

I second the goodwill comment. Warlord have always done me right when it comes to customer service and issue resolution. Thats not to say that I encounter many issues with their products, I haven't, but they have always been friendly responsive, and over deliver on service.

Whats the game in the start?

If I could change one thing about Bolt Action, I would seperate the number of activation dice from the number of units. Just to prevent players from having to buy cheap units just for dice. I'd also increase the ranges as they are too short as is. But that's an easy house rule so not that big a deal breaker.

My son and I recently bought “A Gentleman’s War” box set. Big fan of desert war. Models now made and pending priming. Looks great and can’t wait to play. Was very chuffed to get the code for 3rd edition rules. Never expected that and it really makes me want to play other Warlord Games games! Which reminds me that somewhere in my cupboard I have the excellent Cruel Seas.

The human ranges are inspired from the early middle ages and also iirc book depictions of men in Lord of the Rings, so no plate armor

I have some of the Oathmark elves too. I like them a lot, they paint up well and have just the right amount of detail to make the painting enjoyable. The Oathmark rules are also worth checking out

Oathmark is the best value for money boxes I can find in my country, and their multi-part kits with LOADS of spares are great for making custom warbands for a wide range of games, nice to see them given some spotlight 😎🤙

re'installed to give it another try, ai improvements my ass, friendly ai still cant hit shit will not engage anything without being ordered and constantly walk in your face whilst enemy ai can shoot the dick off a bee on another planet, you spend more time repairing fkn mechs than playing them because your squad always gets them destroyed, put some rare ass expensive goober 9000 mk.2 gun on something and it gets obliterated in one fight.... game is tedious beyond belief no way would i buy dlc for this, disappointing because its such a cool concept for a game

Price of this expansion on steam is 2/3rds the price of the base game. That is overpriced as hell
