How to Breathe When Swimming Freestyle
Swim better and faster with my program: www.fiverr.com/s/2Kpx93r
Breathing when swimming Freestyle is super simple. All you need to do is maintain a low head position and time your exhale and inhale correctly. However these concepts are unfamiliar to beginner swimmers.
In this video I explain the importance of having a low head position in freestyle and timing the freestyle breath correctly. Combined, these contribute to a faster and more efficient breath, leading to a greater Freestyle technique.

    Under waters need work. Getting passed the flags should be a no brainer

  • @brianm22
    @brianm22 29 дней назад

    If your goal is to be an efficient swimmer and you are not concerned with how quickly you can finish then some things to work on: 1) Breath as many times as you need, you should not be trying to hold your breath that long 2) Focus more on elongating each stroke which will help produce more of a glide 3) Think of a more piercing of the water with each hand entry, this is to help produce more efficient motion. It looks like you are doing a good job at that with your left but not as well with your right 4) Think of your hand more as an anchor point in the water , the effect being that your hand moves backward at the same speed that your body moves forward. I noticed your hand is moving faster which tells me you are pulling too hard and your hand appears to appear to be slipping. 5) your head is a little high when you went to breath. Try to focus on the top of your head pointing directly to the wall you are swimming to. The goal is have your head parallel with the water even while turning to breath ( I am still working on that myself). Overall I would say you look like a very strong freestyler, I would say practice at a slow pace to refine your basics, work on one improvement at a time, and work on good breathing habits. I have no idea what my 50m time would be. My goal is to swim efficiently and effortlessly as possible. Addition: I didn’t notice this is your week 29. I looked at your week 26 and your hand anchor is much better. You are also cleaner with your hand entry. So it appears that you know these things already. I would work on your techniques but slower. Something you want to avoid is swimming too fast or tired and ingraining the wrong technique into muscle memory. Most of your pool time should be deliberate drills to improve on weak areas. Per day I would focus on one to two weak areas.

    When you push off the wall your body must point downwards or at least be straight (if it is inclined upwards it makes no sense to start underwater), you must come up from the diving board before reaching the water level so as not to create friction, in the first strokes you don't have to concentrate on speed but on power and only shortly after accelerate the frequency. In the water you have to try to stretch as much as possible, your arm remains too bent and too wide under water.

  • @richardtrass

    Hi mate. I definitely don’t think you should glide the way you might for a longer race (as in highly front quadrant biased) but I’ve certainly found that if I don’t focus too much on high stroke rate and look to make sure I keep stroke length high I swim faster. Based on the video you’re not gliding anyways so if that mental cue helps maintain stroke length it’s probably not a bad one. I think with a deep catch its very hard to have a super high stroke rate without shortening the stroke or slipping water so focusing on catching more water with a straight arm pull is probably best and you can build to increased stroke rate from there (if you can do it without slipping water on the pull).

    2 breaths maybe too little. Add one in there. Work on your kicking power and see if you can do more anaerobic workouts to imrpove your bodys ability to swim without oxygen. Small sets at 90% with no more than 5 seconds rest.

    • @SwimStrongwithLachlan
      @SwimStrongwithLachlan Месяц назад

      Agree with the anarobic sets - respectfully disagree with the breathing. Each breath slows you down as you as the head raises and the legs sink ever so slightly.

    • @FLASK904
      @FLASK904 Месяц назад

      @SwimStrongwithLachlan It's true. Each breath slows you down at that specific time, but it also oxygenated your body, which gives you a boost. You have to balance the two. I think if you're doing long course 50, without a turn, 2 breaths is fine. But if you're doing short course, turns and pushoffs are energy intensive, adding a 3rd breath in the middle of the second 50 going into the finish may help. But these things are personal preference, so you should try and experiment. See what works.

    Your left arm is crossing over your central plane. This is causing you to zig zag down the lane. It was mentioned before, but try training your underwater. If you get to the 12-13 m mark and time your break out, you’ll have a much smoother transient and save your arms. I can tell that you’re pull heavy. I do the same. I would also take one less stroke into the flip turn. Do you know your average stroke count?
