2-stroke performance engine - special JAWA piston repair
Good day again.
This video, effectively is a result of a slightly too specialised engine part that is not available in any stock. I had the choice between a lead time of 2 or 3 months for a new, expensive customised piston or a repair and machining trial, which ended up as special as the entire engine.
For those who want to do a similar repair: The bushing press fit was 0,03 mm (oversize) which should be sufficient to keep it position. As it is not a part under static load I’d never ‘glue’ it in position, like some do.

    The wall thickness of the bushing seems very thin, I would choice a bigger diameter piston pin, but with a larger crank rod eye, who nows.....

      Right, but try and get a good oversize wrist pin, or make one. Also not an easy task. It works fine as is quite a while already.

      Do you think so? I think the „rubbing marks“ are due to incorrect profiling during the machining step which gives the piston its curve. The setting of the machine used for it most likely was not right.

    hello, great job again did you consider to use variable ignition? I mean when moment of ignition depends on r/min I have no idea how much it improves 2 stroke engine performance, but for 4 stroke engine it is esential.

      Yes, considered. It won‘t help much and also there are hardly any systems on the market which are made the way I‘d like it to be.

      @@Quiet.Light.Engineering I have tried: IMF soft - ignition I have done only one short test with JAWA 350 You cen see old video on my chanell there was no improvement, but engine was original with small revs range. And ofcourse, more effort would be necessary to understand all context,........ With 4 stroke engine there was big progress Perhaps this is reason why old 4 stroke motorcycles as PRAGA BD 500 have extra lever on handlebar to adjust ignition manualy during engine run my ignition is free now if you wold like to test it I can land it to you.

    Is that a modified cylinder with bolt on reed block or a later development from factory? I don't think I've ever worked on a JAWA, CZ or MZ that didn't have rumbling main bearings. We used to change mains on MZ at first service (1970's~80's, ~500 miles) Personally, I would have bored/reamed piston and fitted 'top hat' thin wall bronze bushings almost exactly like you did. (I did train as precision machinist before returning to motorcycle dealer servicing) That's very nice micron reading small bore gauge.

    Sounds nice, a lot of work for something that might work or might not. there is so many variables in to making a 2-stroke exhaust pipe that its almost always hit or miss :D

      That’s right. This one produces good top end power but the low end is way weaker than expected. So it’s more for a drag race, but not normal driving.
