Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
Come with me for a walk through Dawley High street....The 'street' as locals called it. The walk takes us back to the 50's and 60's when life was hard. With thanks to some of the owners of pictures and videos.

Parklife, a story in pictures of Dawey park
That was amazing. My grandparents used to live in Atwood Terrace and I remember visiting them over the years. I rennet going to the pub with my Grandad, and visiting the Office Licence hatch in one of them. I think the bingo hall has long gone now. I also recall a park he took me to once where there was (memory is vague) a bric-à-brac shop (quite large). The Dawley accent; Good luck to non natives! Thank you so much
Fortunes the dentist used to send shivers down my spine.
Mrs Baldwin ran the Charlton
Yet again a great video bringing back many nostalgic memories of the 'Old Madeley, many thanks
What a great video. I was born in the Lady Forestor Hospital, Broseley in 1959 Lived at 12 Hodge Bower Ironbridge until I was 5 years old when we moved up to Madeley into the newly built Hills Lane Drive estate. Bygone days 😊
When Britain was British.
Excellent montage, just could have done with extending each photo for a slightly longer period. But I managed to identify most places!
Dawley born Dawley bred, strong in the arm, thick in the 'head. Never see locals when I go home now. All brummie accents.
Love it..❤ great video.
The chap with the horse and cart is John Brooks, my chap uncle, and the family still lives in Trench. At one time the family in history ,owned the Queens at Horton, and Percy Dean chip shop now Victoria Fryer
Shouldbif kept thing as they were. Look at the place now.
Brilliant
I remember most of these places a lot has changed over the years. Thank you for the memories.
Hope you both had a great cruise👌
What is that beautiful track? Goes very well with the pictures. Sadly, like a lot of people I never experienced it how it once was. Was 2000 the first time I visited Telford.
I was lucky to leave the area in 1964 to go to university but have been back in Shropshire for the last 45 years, about 10 miles away from Telford. I have many happy memories of my childhood in this once "run down and depressed area" which was by modern standards very crime free.
Few of those gone shame fullimmigrants destroying culture .
Ace thank you. My forefathers were from old park
Plce phuked now full immigrants muslims
This 'old' Telford looks fascinating. The kind of place I wish I'd been able to visit.....were it still here.😔
The picture of John Maddocks iron foundry brought back a whole wave of nostalgia. Known locally as the black hole of Calcutta it was where I had my first ever job.
Did you spot any english flags. Zero.
Are you sure these pics are just from a couple of years before 1960s? That looks like a totally different century, judging even by how people are dressed, not mentioning the quality of the pics.
This film does jump between different decades. One minute you're looking at scenes from the Edwardian period, then you're looking at a street from the 1950's, and then you're looking at a street scene from the 1930's. Basically it looks like this film covers from around the 1890's right up to the early 1960's - just before the new Telford started to take shape.
My first ever beer as a lad in the elephant and castle. Shame most now gone despite huge population in area....
Lol. My dad knew Bert. I remember going to the scrapyard in the early 80s. Bert had our goat from us. I randomly got talking to his grandson in the pub the other day. A real nice chap.
Excellent.
Wow! I moved here 4 years ago, and thought it a standard run down town in our times of austerity. To see more of a thriving community makes me sad in a way. R.I P Woolworths!
If you have ever been to Dawley , you would realise how pertinent this music is?
Thanks for this.used to go to Terry Heaths and Forest Glen
Love this. Would be handy to have the names of the places written in the video
as a local of Niagara Falls I learned of the first man to swim the English channel. never knew of his fate until recently of trying conquer these rapids. the rapids themselves especially the Himalaya rapids that reach an easy 20feet high surges.
Ive fell out all of those badboys...god bless them all. ...anyone ever have a haircut at Fran's...clippers right hand cigarette in the left..... priceless memories
Good old days before grooming gang's and corrupt councillor's. Welcome to Telford and by the way your welcome to it.
Beautiful pictures I know the name Maiden was very popular in Shropshire, probably still is .
Remember super Saturday as a kid, picked a key, opened up a large chest, won a packet of crayons.
This was my home town as a boy and teenager. Left in 1971. Not the same now. My father worked at the Chad Valley for over 50 year. I notice the old Majestic dance hall. My dad said it was called the Palais Glide in the 1930's and he used to dance there. Can anyone rember it. I used to dance at Terry Heaths Town House. We saw some brill live acts including Geno Washington and other Soul acts. Wonderful days😊
Lovely to see 'The Beehive Corner' there.
Telford Super Saturday.
Just seen this video, and it reminded me of when my Aunt and Uncle ran the Commercial Inn which was in Madeley, I think it was Park avenue, and was opposite a community hall ( still there). The pub was demolished in 1970 when the awful Telford newtown redevelopment started. I used to go there in the school holidays and well remember some of the hilarious characters that were the regulars. The pub itself was really old and a bit creepy, one of the upstairs function rooms was used by the " Buffaloes " and had a set of buffalo's horns on the wall ! My elder sister managed to convince me that there was a ghost in the cellar and never to go down the stairs,,,so I didnt !!
He is my great great great great grandfather it sounds fake but its not me and my brother are related to him
Believe or not guys this is my dad's great great great grandfather
He’s actually my great great great grandfather through my grandfather who was born and brought up in york, also strangely on videos about him I’ve seen about 10 comments from people claiming they’re a relative of his so i have to think that most of them are just lying…
Any pictures ov Bert Cheshire place .old park. ,anybody please
I bought my first car from Bert Cheshire in 1965.
Good video. Thank you.
Is Paul Athersmith a relative as I went to school with him?
Yes but distant relation. My dad's cousin is Paul's dad
@@dennisathersmith nice Paul’s nickname at school was gaffer no idea why he just always had it. We both went to the Phoenix School and I only just found out it was flattened as I moved abroad and was looking up stuff on Telford my old home town when I found your channel.
I have just found out my great great grandmother was born and lived Old Park,
Superb! Many thanks from a dawley born exile of 47 years.
My family, Tonks born and bred old park and Dawley many happy memories of the mounts round webb crescent. My dad ran a little bookies in chaple street , Giles and son. I don't know a soul in Dawley now sadly.
My Dad and my Uncle put a bet on a horse for me in you dad's bookies! And I won! Or so they told me!
2:06 Fred the Butcher, worked part time at Parkinsons butchers in Wrockwardine wood in his senior years. Nice man he was.
Funny- but every time I ever see a street or town scene from the 50’s or 60’s or even 70’s or 80’s, I always IMMEDIATELY think it seems far better and happier than today? I think I am right too. No matter what people say, those were better times than now.
a beautiful place
