Experimenting with new nutrition (as with any "gear") on raceday is wildly unwise. The numbers mean nothing if you can't tolerate it.
@@csn583 agree. If performance is the purpose testing in training is optimal. Yet, wisdom comes from EXPERIMENTING, so in my case, when the run is just for fun and I’d rather F around and find out, wisdom can and was gained. Plus, I knew that no matter how I felt from it I can grit out a 50k, longer distances a much different story LOL.
So inspirational man 💪, I’m getting back to running after almost 2 months of break from injury and although it gonna be tough at the start, if I stick with it I’ll js be like you one day. Stay blessed
Failure isn't in your vocabulary. Awesome job. Great example of pushing oneself past where we think we can go. Your son's laugh is so infectious and uplifting.
I do cold hot cold an so forth Cold plunge an hot baths just my bath tub
Selling too much stuff, put me way off your content bro
I agree with the changing clothes for sure. Doing my 5th race of the year on Sunday, shouldn’t be too hot. But when you sweat, a LOT, That sweat has salt. That salt crystallizes to some extent as it dries in your clothes. That’s harsh even with whatever body lube you wear… change your shorts if/when you can!!
In what order do you do contrast therapy?
Thank you for this very inspirational, and helpful video.
Hello Charles. I’m a Nigerian in Nigeria and I just started the same challenge of 5miles, mainly to bolster my Mental health which have suffered a lot in the past years. I’m a father of three and I’m 37. Thank you for your realness and relatability, I find your context refreshing and sincere. I am looking forward to more of your content.
You’re my hero Charles
Making me blush.
I am doing my first 50k next Saturday, Thank you for the video i am more exited now 🔥🔥🔥
Wow good for u
This video was so inspiring! Your guidance feels both practical and deeply motivational. Thank you for sharing these powerful insights!"
This is so good. By experience, I know this to be true. It has so many benefits, especialy for women, your hormones are balanced, you sleep better, you don't have brain fog, you sleep earlier and wake up more refreshed, etc
What was the weight for the sandbags, sled and ball throw?
Im going hunting this week. I cant wait to do this!
blue zone topic is great
Well done. All of our society hates marriage and having children. They say things like this, but they’re wrong. Good job sir
Nice video thank you.
I would run so fast to not hear these two guys play those songs behind me haha All jokes aside, thnaks for the video ! Running my first solo 50k in December, can't wait !
HAHAH aka we would help get you a faster time! Goodluck on your race! Which one are you looking at doing? I am always looking to learn about what different races are out there.
@@CJFinley I'm doing a solo 50k around my area! (no official race or anything, just me lol). I was supposed to de the malaga marathon but flights and hotel costs did not make sense for me so I was like fuck it imma just run 50k around my house instead. (Also the fam is here for christmas so I can get to see them more instead of going to malaga )
the dedication is awesome - to both yourself and the family. Good luck in Dallas!!
I appreciate you! Focusing on what I can control and working hard to get better each day.
holding the ski erg down and give to her is acutally not legal as far as the technical briefing goes
Great video. I love the five (5) F"s of fatherhood.

Good job wife! Man dude encourage your wife! 7 months out of birth!!!!!
Thanks for your time and comment. If I was not encouraging to her throughout training and on race day...she would damn sure not race with me! She expects the most from me, and I give her everything I have both in the arena and behind the scenes. When your wife is a competitor, and you have the relationship that we do, the arena during race day is our place to purely be athletes. Those who get it, get it. So if it comes off like I am not supportivem and amazed by her accomplishments, then I cannot fault you for your opinion. But the reality is she is my hero day in and day out. Peek my other content and you will see that sir!
this summer I did my first and only trail race, 40k with close to 2k elevation, but with almost no proper preparation (few 5-6k runs before). but what helped me, and what people often forget, is how walking is important for long runs, especially trail races. you will have to climb hills and mountains. road runners quit this race, it was too steep and hilly for them, too hot etc. going on flat surface vs hills and mountains is a lot different. lucky for me, I live on a hill, surrounded by mountains, so I climb a lot every day, and I walk 18+k steps a day, so that really saved me on my race. try to throw in hikes here and there, don't just run. and I'm with you guys, I hate road running. I'm 191cm, 110kg guy ( that's about 6'3", 240lbs). pavement just wrecks my already messed up back. started running more regularly lately, with my dog, got some meadows and hilly parts, so up and down, and all around. my dog gets tired, and I have something to do for that hour or so :). so, tip no.2: get a dog, great for your conditioning :D great video and great tips guys!
this summer I did 40k trail run, with almost 2.000 meters of elevation, without any proper preparation. I think I had like 3-4 runs of about 5k and that's about it. I even didn't tested food I was going to eat, just bought some rum-chocholate bars and ate that, plus food at aid stations. thing that helped me was that I almost every day went on 8-10k walks with my dog, and in general, I walk 15-19k steps a day. would it be easier if I prepared for this race? sure, it would. was my approach smart? definitely not. but it was fun like hell. I understand your "no coach" approach. it's fun to do something like this just for fun. for next year, I'm thinking about signing up for 60k trail race, with over 3.700m elevation. but for that I really need to prepare. my biggest tip for anyone planning to do long trail race is just have fun. at worst, you can quit mid race and no shame in that. my second tip: put some toilette paper in zip lock bag. it can be handy. don't ask me how I know :D
hahaha love your toilet paper tip! I should have put that in there because I do something similar. I actually have an autoimmune disease that impacts my gut so I always have wet wipes with me when I do long runs. Thanks for watching and the response. It means a lot!
Love that song ❤
So friggin inspiring CJ!🎉❤
I appreciate you Freddie! Focused on 1% better everyday 🙏
Do you think you could have done 10-miles a day?
@@bluesmoke006 simple answer yes. But that would have taken too much of a toll on me showing up in other areas of my life. Upon reflecting more on this, what I think I was after was what’s the right mileage that challenges me mentally/physically without exhausting me, but also helps me find that upper limit of my current self. And after doing it I believe 5 miles was the right choice. The beauty of this however is that if I keep going, which I plan to, I’ll be able to increase that upper limit to 6/7/8 miles in the future. Thanks for the great question Corey!

Highly inspiring and authentic
Have you had troubles with shin splints with the daily running?
What an amazing video. The whole thing gave me chills…and the part where my Dad starts to get emotional when Peter called him up ❤ Thank you for this, CJ, and for enduring the course!! And thank you personally for these memories we can share with our family and friends. Be well & see you next year!!
Nice. How long have you practiced this now?
Be careful of the serial killer on that lake. Make sure you bring mace or a weapon next time.

@@CJFinley Thx Dude 4 your content.
@@geancombs2 appreciate you! If you don't mind me asking, what was the toughest part for you?!
@@CJFinley Before I thought it will be the push ups at the Burpees, because of my weak shoulders. But on doing it, it was the lunges, after the jumps from the Burpees... my legs never hurt so much before 😂
I feel like there are 10,000 videos exactly like this
Maybe there are. I cannot speak for the other 9,999...but if you watch you'll understand why I am doing it, and maybe you want to challenge yourself to something similar. Have a great day!
Heyaa, loved the energy🙌! I'm not really sure if it is the best time to ask but, I was wondering if I could help you create a better distribution by working on post-production like better storytelling through Edits, Keywords, think catchy intros and outros, or even some engaging short clips! Would love to chat if you're interested and keep creating good content:)
This is awesome dude. Nice work.
My wife and I are considering signing up for our first race for her 40th birthday. Tell me we should do it and I won’t die!😂
What a great way to celebrate! Y'all should do it! Just make sure you train together leading up to it and don't go in cold haha
Or he will hate running because you forced it on him. Could go either way
It’ll be his choice. Won’t be forcing him to do anything, only introducing him.
I've just started training for my first 50km in November. I am really looking forward to it.
Snap, also November here. So excited and nervous 🎉
