i think one reason the glow effect went out of styl eis most people do it completely wrong, and so while it looks kinda cool, it also doesn't look photo real. If you have a bright white light source, then if its reflecting off of metal then it can make that metal appear white because its a reflection of the source light. but even then it acts like a mirror, so the distance from the source light will change how that reflection looks, thats very hard to factor in. And on top of that if the surface the light is hitting isnt reflective then it wont make it appear pure white. it absorbs most of the colours and only reflects the colour of the surface. so skin will look like brighter skin, coloured armour will look like brighter colour of that armour, black will look slightly more grey, red will look brighter red, the difference between the brightening effect on black will be different from the brightening effect on the red, or other colours, so the original brightness of the surface also matters. A white light source cannot make a black surface look white, light just doesn't work like that. You also have to think about where will the light actually reach. if you have a glowing source of light that is surrounded by a metal lip, then that lip will be very bright. but if theres a 90 degree angle to that lip, and the light source is recessed than pretty much no light will wrap around the edge and onto the surface. So the plasma guns painted with light just spilling out over the whole gun just isn''t accurate. fortunately with ai artwork its relatively easy now to get source images of things like this to see how the light would actually spill onto the surfaces around it. but its going to be a very tricky art style to recreate, mainly because its like trying to paint a painting but onto a 3d model. realistic light effect only work from one angle, you can recreate what the light looks like from that one angle, and it will look wrong from every other angle.

the purple reverse is what i struggle with, i tried to do napthol crimson and black reverse on crisis suits and couldnt get it right

Mech are really hard to paint. You need so much brush acrobatics to paint the skeletons. Well done your achievement. Would love to see you get the final bits done…..and some more units!

Amazing paint job and inspired kit bash! The only thing I don't like is the wings - because to me they come off as actual biological wings like the figure was born with them, and that surely should stay exclusive to the Great Angel himself! 😋

I did hit like. Your airbrush skills are way better than mine. Also, though you saw the colour scheme from somewhere else, you put your own spin on it which is what the hobby is about. That said, I don't get how people can paint an army made up of mechanical priests that literally have prayers for maintenance, repair and the like and think they would leave armour chipped or the works rusty. 30k as much as 40k is an amalgamation of arcane tech and 18th century labour, meaning they are not short of a helping hand. A harder challenge in my view is getting the metal parts to glisten with the unguents and oils of the litany the Mechanicus Mages use. The army would be spotless and never devolve to the detritus of the universe while the Mechanicus existed. For rust, chips and dirt, see Orks.

So if you wake up and can't paint, eat breakfast. You need as much energy for mental concentration as you do for physical exercise. Pick a low GI hi energy munch and back it up with some decent coffee.

Looks great! I think you could have also just used chalk pastel for the basing pigments, the product looks great but my guess is it costs a lot more than a pair of pastels

the thing about doing a whole army in one go is they tend to look the same as a wall of mud so try and break up the work maybe break it up into 1/5 of the army at one time

For army painting I’ve found that a really good trick for doing things like lenses or gem stones is to give the a brush on coat of gloss varnish. From table distance the difference in textures can make a sizable difference imo
