Why I cast Home Assistant Dashboards to my Google Hubs...... #homeassistant
I have a few use cases in my house were I want to cast Home Assistant Dashboards to the Google Hubs around my House. In this video, I demonstrate three ways that I am casting dashboard to Google Hubs.
1) Using my voice to ask Google to cast a Home Assistant Dashboard. I've setup Google to cast a HA dashboard based on a voice command in Google Home.
2) Casting a Home Assistant dashboard based on motion. I've setup a motion sensor in my living room so that when it detects motion my Living Room Dashboard is displayed.
3) Casting a Home Assistant dashboard based on an entity change (For when someone has left the garage roller door open... my garage dashboard is cast so that I can see that its be...

I bought the Zigbee Moes Fingerbot Plus to automate switching on my dehumidifier in Home Assistant. The problem I discovered is that my dehumidifier has a touch button (capacitive) on / off button (like you may have on your coffee machine) rather than a push button switch that the Fingerbot is made to work with. In this video, as well as setting up the Fingerbot Plus in Home Assistant to automa...

Project Smart Home Channel Introduction
Anyone looking for a picture of you car, you can use a screen capture of your car from your Tela App
Lovely video mate!
So when they goto school, these connect to the teacher's phone? Do you have a BLE proxy at home?
The tags will use the tile network while they are away from. support.thetileapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/204315768-Tile-Network. I don't have a BLE proxy at home.
Thank you! Been frustrated I can't do this in Apple Home Kit or Hue App. Didn't want to invest the time learning Home Assistant if it wouldn't do it either. I'm ogg to get a Home Assistant Green....
They look like nice devices. I'm thinking about getting a yellow to have a play around with.
Can you please share the picture with the Tesla car ?
I've just added the Tesla Car image to my github repository below github.com/ProjectSmartHome2023/ProjectSmartHome-Code-share
okay i have another one for you. how about when you leave the house and you forget your wallet (tile inside of wallet) after say a 1000 meters you get a notification you left your wallet at home or left it behind
Great explanation
Thank you.
Great tutorial!! My only problem is I can't find an image of model Y that has a transparent background. I know, first world problem... Any suggestions? Yours looks great!!
I used an online app called Canva. Once I'd found the Tesla image I wanted to use I imported it into Canva and used the background remover in Canva to make the background transparent.
@@ProjectSmartHome Thank you.. I'll give it a try.
@@ProjectSmartHome Great tutorial! It worked perfectly. However, the only issue I encountered was that the image size is too large. Could you let me know the width and height of the image you used?
I've just added the tesla car image to my Github repository below.... github.com/ProjectSmartHome2023/ProjectSmartHome-Code-share
How do you avoid early firing of the alert, e.g. you turn on the plug but spend more than 5 minutes before starting the programme? Wouldn't it be better to only do the below check once the machine has been running, e.g. the power is higher than a certain value for a period of time.
The trigger is " when the power drops below 5w" so based on this, the automation only triggers after a wash cycle.
Great vid. Some of it worked for me. I got all the room numbers and ID's. But I cannot for the life of me get the room names for some reason. What could I be doing wrong ? I guess I could just call service to the numbers and see where the robot goes. But it sounds like a long afternoon haha... Any help would be great :-)
The integration has improved since I made this video. I've just looked at the documentation.... www.home-assistant.io/integrations/roborock. When you run the get maps command, from developer tools, you should get a list of rooms and room numbers that you can then use in your automation.
amazing video, it was very informative. thank you
Thank you for your feedback 👍
Is the hue bridge really necessary or not? Does the lights work without it?
I can't see how the solution would work without a hue bridge as you need to provide bridge details when setting up the hdmi sync box.
excellent ideas, great work. Keep it up and the videos are great...well done mate
Thank you for your kind comments.
👍
Out of curiosity, why are you even using the tile tags for leaving the zones and notifications and such? I cant imagine the backpack and such are easy to loose or misplace. The phone can already do all these trigger and notifications and automations without the tile tags. I just picked up two tags and the reason is for a work Lanyard ID & key set and also a house/car key set. If they get miss placed around the house which is common they can be rung to make the sound to locate them. Still working out a way to ring them from Alexa/Home Assistant. But not sure on the purpose for those automations your running as it can just be done without the tags for the identical effect?
Thanks for the question. I mainly use the tile to track my kids school bags, I assume the bag is attached to a child so I can then know when they leave school and when they arrive at home. My kids don't always take their mobile phones to school but they will always have their school bags. I have one on my work bag in case it gets stolen. A few of my colleagues have had their bags stolen with travelling.
@@ProjectSmartHome I was led to believe that the Tile Tag has to be near the Phone. Within 100m or less to communicate and locate. Because the Tile tags rely on the connection via Phone Bluetooth to report their location. Their Phone is most likely to be on them and Home Assistant can track the phone anyways, so this was why i wondered about something the size of a bag and the purpose. If a bag is stolen if the phone is not near it then it won't know it's location? I thought the Tile tags were more for Finding items, but Apple Air tags can hop on to others phones to report their location but tile tags don't do this? Unless I'm mistaken? Or do they hop on to others Bluetooth to report location somehow?
The tile tags use the Tile Network so that you can track devices. support.thetileapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/204315768-Tile-Network This is how I can see that my kids bags are at school (hopefully with with one of my children) ;o)
What google hub are you using? Thinking of buying a google nest hub gen2, but unsure if this would work?
I've got both the hub and hub max and they both work well with home assistant. When casting dashboards, I prefer the max for the bigger screen as you can get more on it. But I am casting dashboards to both models, I've just had to be stricter with myself on what I include on the dashboards for the smaller screens. That said, you can scroll the screen if all of the info won't fit on.
Just came across this as I have JUST finished setting up my room dashboard with all my zigbee sensors. What add-on / plugin are you using to cast the dashboard to the nest hub? I cant seem to figure it out
I'm using Home Assistant with Nabu Casa integration, which allows me to expose my Home Assistant devices and dashboards and to Google.
Very useful vid, thanks. I just wanted to add some info for those who may run into the same issue I did.... If you have multiple floor maps set up for the same vacuum, it appears that get_room_mapping will only return the room numbers for your 'primary' map. However, after some digging around I found that, if before mapping you issue the command 'load_multi_map', with the parameter '1' for your second map ('0' is the main map, & presumably 2, 3 etc if you have more maps, but I only have 2).... then after that you do get_room_mapping, you will then find a new set of room numbers in the debig log for your second floor. Critically, the 2 digit codes are re-used for the second floor, so they will be the same as those for your main floor. I believe this means that you need to do the load_multi_map for the appropriate map before sending the clean_segment command, otherwise the robot gets confused. I'm still in the experimentation stage so not 100% sure on details yet.
Thank you for your comments.
Did you get any further with this? Did it work correctly
@@Handlepandle786 Yes, it all works perfectly prettymuch. The key to multiple floors is that you have to include the load_multi_map command (with the appropriate map number) at the start of any script telling the robot to go clean, otherwise it'll get confused if you have moved it between floors. It does no harm to have it in there if the robot hasn't changed floor since its last action, but is essential if it has. Other than that everything is good. I have actions set up on various switches to trigger the Roborock (Bob) to go off and clean different regular areas, some vacuum only, some mop and vac... all works nicely. I still use the Roborock app if I want Bob to do an unusual route or zone, but for regular daily use it has massively cut down my need to use the app, which was my goal. I should mention that I did have some struggles along the way... the commands are *very* syntax specific & I got stuck a few times just for not having things laid out just right (this is probably a common YAML issue, it's just the first time I've really had to dive into the YAML since I've only been doing HA for a year or so & the GUI is good enough now that it does for most my needs.
For anyone not using nabu casa you can also use Matterbridge to expose HA entities to Google Home. I get Google home to turn on (via voice) a HA virtual switch which then triggers a Plex playlist. Works a treat 😁
I never even thought to use native Google script (I'm trying to move everything away into HA). When a family member comes home I get mine to broadcast their arrival which of course stops the radio playing on the device. I shall try your way instead.
I'm really pleased with how it works. I'll be changing my existing HA voice notifications to use native Google broadcast. Good luck with it
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing!
Great video. Just FYI, there’s a awesome app called Tessie. Full Tesla integration and control into Home Assistant. It’s not free, but I think it’s worth it.
Thanks for this video!! I set up your automation on my system and got it to mostly work. For some reason the "Yes" doesn't show up on the notification on my iPhone so I can't cancel the notification. Any ideas? Thanks
I would expect that the most likely issue that you may not have the formatting of the YAML correct. I've uploaded the code for my automations here so you could download this bin YAML code and compare it with yours. github.com/ProjectSmartHome2023/ProjectSmartHome-Code-share.git The YAML in the action should look something like this..... data: message: Have you put the GREEN Bin Out? data: actions: - action: YES_BIN_OUT title: "Yes" destructive: true action: notify.mobile_app_paul_s_motorola_razr_50_ultra
Great video 🙆
Thank you.
Very useful. Only critism is probably better to use a 1+1 Gang backbox. How do you find functionality with HA? Could you set it up to strobe if for instance an alarm sensor is trigger? Or Light up if you have an outdoor PIR? Many Thanks
Thank you. I did look for a deep (47mm) 1+1 socket but couldn't get my hands on one at the time. I agree, it would have been better to use one of those..... With regard to the PIR, I m using a Hue Outdoor Motion detector which controls turning the lights on when motion is detected when it gets dark.
Is this model require a Hub for zigbee integration ? Or can it be directly connected to the Zigbee concentrator connected to Home Assistant ?
Someone may prove me wrong but I don't believe that the HDMI sync box solution would work with HA.
Hi@@ProjectSmartHome , I don't understand your answer. I'm not talking about HDMI sync box but the Zigbee Fingerbot Plus ;)
I have all of my ZigBee devices directly connected to home assistant with Zigbee2MQTT. This includes the finger bot
very interesting your automations .. can we have your yaml thanks
I'll get the code links added to the description field.
You can get your room IDs without Debug logging now, it seems, by following the more recent instructions on the Documentation page of the Roborock integration: Developer Tools > Actions > Roborock: Get Maps.
How are you tracking the bags locations?
I'm using a Tile Tracker which is attached to my kids school bags. In the video below I explain how I'm using the time trackers ruclips.net/video/HJQWCs1FdE4/видео.html
Top ideas. One of my favourites is being able to ask my Google Home devices to "disable home protection". This turns off the Adguard Home and would be used when it might be blocking something that we don't want blocked (adverts etc). Would love to see the code for your automations. Thanks !
Thanks for your comments. I'll look at getting the YAML for my automations added.
Really cool. Great ideas!
Thank you! I'm glad you like them.
Interesting! Thank you

Fingerbot. Still can't believe anyone thought that made a good name for a product.
Yeah, funny. But it does it job, so, fine)
Hello, is it possible to do double clicking? For example clicking 2 times (double click or two clicks have less than 5-10 seconds apart) in every 5 minutes.
I can't see a double clicking option in the user interface but I have just setup a quick test automation to switch the fingerbot on wait 2 seconds and switch it off. This worked as expected. So essentially meeting your criteria for double clicking in less than 5 seconds.
@@ProjectSmartHome So can it do it continuously? Like for 10 hours.
@@ProjectSmartHome Did you use other devices for setup automation?
The automation is done with Home Assistant. I have a Sonoff Zigbee coordinator plugged in the my Raspberry Pi that is running home assistant with Zigbee2MQTT.
I don't think that it is manufactured for that sort of use. Maybe the product documentation would give you an idea of how many hours use you could get out of the robot. And its battery operated so using it like that I expect it wouldn't last very long. But that's just my view.
So I use the signee usb radio antenna hooked up and use that to discover my zigbee devices. Should this work with that?
From what I have read. The Fingerbot works with Home Assistant ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT. So if you are using either of these you should be OK.
i have my switchbot for my ice machine lol
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing!
Thanks for this video. was very helpfull. Do you know if there is an option to activate roborock app routines , which are allready set in the App? If not, I was successfu,l in using the commands in vacuum mode but could not set the robot to work in Mop mode only . Any Idea ?
My work around for the mop is to manually fit and detach the mop based on what cleaning automation is running. I previously had a notification to remind me to fit the mop when the automation to mop the kitchen was going to run. I've just had another look at the documentation and I see that there is a "mop attached" sensor. I've just updated my automation for the kitchen floor mopping so that it checks to make sure that the mop is attached. If it is disconnected then I will get a notification to fit it. I haven't found a way to do exactly what you asked. This is the best that I have managed to do. Its not perfect but its not to much of a problem for me. If you come across away to do it then please let me know.
Excellent detail and well presented series of home automation videos

Whats the highest resolution of the data coming from the shelly em? Or is that controlled within HA? I'm looking for a way to monitor and log the current usage on a 32a circuit at the highest resolution possible, ideally multiple samples per second to detect transient issues. Cheers!
I can't see a way to monitor the current usage directly. The only options that are available for monitoring is W and KWh. When you export the KWh data in CSV from the Shelly app the values are in 1 hour intervals. The graphs in HA allow you to show the same data at 5 min intervals.
@@ProjectSmartHome I've got one now, with the /status json endpoint i can get 1s samples, which is pretty impressive for such a cheap device!
Great video, nice and simple
Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad you liked it!

Kindly share the blueprint of this automation
I have copied the automation for my washing machine notification in to Github. github.com/ProjectSmartHome2023/ProjectSmartHome-Code-share.git
I want to use this for my tv lift in my bedroom. I have bought a wired remote control for the lift and took that apart. Now I know which wire is up and down. So if I connect my up to S1 and down to S2 and power it with 230V will that work with the app?
S1 and S2 are connections from your existing remote (so that your remote can control the motor through the shelly) and 01 and 02 are the connections to your motor for up and down.
@@ProjectSmartHome it works! I’m so freaking happy!
Excellent news. !!!
Can it's work without hue bridge!
As far as I am aware you need the Hue bridge to get the Philips Hue Sync Box to work with the lights..
