Making a USB adapter for Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro
In this video I show how to make an USB adapter for the wonderful Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro. This joystick was a childhood dream and I bought a used one very cheap on the internet. Not only it is very precise (and quite heavy) but the force feedback is very nice too.
The diagram and the .hex file are available in this link:
code.google.com/archive/p/adapt-ffb-joy/downloads
I don't go in details how the program works but it's very interesting and you can find information in online forums.
The adapter is fully functional and I use it to play on a weekly basis. I'm planing to make a more compact version using a PCB.
I hope you guys enjoy!

The schematic shows 4 potentiometers labelled Rx, Ry, Rp1 and Rp2. You didn’t use those in your circuit and there was no mention about them either. Do they really need to be in there? If not, then what connections need to be made to pins PF0, PF1, PF4 and PF5? Thank you

Wonderfull instruction which gives me the option to alternativly use my good old MS Sidewinder FFB Pro gameport joysticks or my MS Sidewinder FFB steering wheel on my main-pc. The video-tutorial is fantastic. I built 4 adapters. Each of them was working for a short time. But now 3 of my 4 adapters don't work. I bent the two 2k2 resistors and produced a short circuit on the teensy2.0 board. It worked fine for a short time. The 4th adapter I built works fine with my main-pc (win10). I'm so happy that my main-pc is working perfect with the LUFA-joystick-emulation. In combination with x360ce the adapter allows me to play gta online simultanly with keyboard an mouse, steering wheel and pedals and the MS Sidewinder FF Pro for helicopters and planes. The steering wheel is a MS SW FFB with usb-port Unfortuneatly it seems to be unpossible to buy the resistors with a 10% tolerance. Only 1 and 5 % resistors are available when I start a Google shopping search. I think that I need 2 x 2,2 kohm resistors red red black brown silver tolerance 10% and 1 x 220 ohm resistor red red black black silver tolerance 10% for each adapter. Can You write me where to buy them, please? Great work, Sir. Thank You very much. Sincerley Yours

You are a hero! I played Star Wars Episode 1 Racer with this Joystick until my hand hurt, because the force feedback of this monster was SO STRONG! Even had to losen my grip to disable feedback (IR-sensor in the handle) sometimes. Even NFS was so much fun with it! I was shocked when Microsoft decided to kill the game port with Windows 7 and my beloved Joystick became obsolete. It still has to be at my parents house somewhere and I'd definitely like to try out your solution! Can you say anything about the input delay? And does the IR-sensor still work? I re-bought Star Wars Episode 1 Racer years ago because you can't install the original (installer is a 16bit programm that doesn't run on a newer OS). Was always disapponted about playing this game with an xbox controller and right now i'm kind of hyped playing it again!
