HGTV Suspending Programming on 9/11 - As it happened (September 11, 2001)
Wow! Woke up to being sent this footage in the mail today. A tape containing HGTV suspending programming as it happened. Looking at TV Guides for September 11, 2001 I have determined that this took place at exactly 1:00pm ET. HGTV seemed to have aired "Appraise it" from 12:30p-1:00p then right before the start of "At Auction" at 1p, they suspended all programming. Very unique footage to see it happen, as it happened.

Wardrobe 911 to “we love to see you smile”
I swear there was a station with a lit candle and a similar text as a suspension frame. Hairs on my arm are standing up thinking about it.
This gives me the chills
Imagine waking up early and starting recording the World Trade Center on the balcony or on the roof.

0:14 Forget about the appraisals and antiques at once because of that awful day.

Ah yes. This is definitely the 2000s equivalent of Samsung's Morning Flower. calming but very scary at the same time
I was watching this EXACT channel (9 KUSA-TV) on 9/11 when I was getting ready for school. I was a Sophomore in highschool in Denver when this happened. I don't remember it, but I guess I woke my whole family up by shouting "WTF!!!" at the TV.
It was a different time back then, That caused 2 wars & almost all the chaos we still see today in the middle east & along with that "isis" group
We should call this song “towers in flight” Not trying to offend anyone
At what time did the suspension happen? During or after the attacks?
Both
@Benjamingamer-xi2gn 1:00 PM EST. A couple of hours after the attacks, after the towers collapsed.
wow
“air jordan is taxiing for takeoff”
How we went for... Michael Jordan it's gonna return to the NBA! To... A plane just hit the World Trade Center
1:25 Bad Timing
I’m not sure if the understand the logic of shutting down a channel during a tragic event like this. I feel like the first thing I’d want is to take my mind off the event otherwise I would just be even more sad.
3:50 WE LOVE TO SEE YOU SMILE :D 3:57 ...
I remember coming home a little before this, my Sister was watching this channel when they decided to suspend programming.
How long was the channel off for?
The rest of the day it was.
This video showcases the very last few moments of a pre-9/11 world. Imagine what might have been going through the minds of everyone who was watching this. They had absolutely no idea that some of them were about to die in one of the worst terrorist attacks in history. It is an absolutely chilling snapshot of a more peaceful world. I pray for the souls of the innocent lives that were lost on that horrific day.
I was 4 and I remember my parents kept it on cartoons all day & night…:(
I lived less than 20 minutes from WTC, I remember our 7th grade teacher asking each of us “Where do your parents work?”. Then she told us what took place. I went to a few town vigils for those who we lost on that day.
I remember this song that day.
Last commercial for the next 3 or 4 days.
You gotta remember that America always came off as a huge power house to the other countries. (Especially with its propaganda) It had seemingly the most influential media, and brutal military that was capable of setting an entire city ablaze with its atomic weapons, and it was the first to get humans on the moon. Imagine how TERRIFYING it must’ve been for people outside the country. Realizing that an attack on this scale was initiated on essentially what they saw as a sleeping dragon. Challenging the US to a duel although it’s possible you’ll win, it’ll still have the fuckin OST to attack on titan or some shit and millions of civilians will be mauled. These eerie screens that convey silence after the storm, knowing the storm is about to blow back at full force make me remember that. (It also makes me remember how much I hate the USA but that’s beside the point)
I didn't even exist yet, but as beautiful as this music is, it's extremely haunting and creepy at the same time with the message, as if what had happened was fresh in your head and were still trying to process it
I didn’t know this video even existed. I’m glad this has been preserved.
Getting Up for School making sure Madison didn't wet the bed.
I remember living on Long Island, I was 15 at the time and being so terrified about what happened that I didn’t want to watch the news anymore and I was so upset that a lot of channels suspended their regular line up of programming. I wanted to be distracted
I remember being younger and my dream was to see this type of introductions because in Brazil we didn't had...
4:18 Such updating mess! 4:30 There is more proof coming.
After all these years, I finally have seen this clip. I thought that it was long gone. Thank you!
A day in history begins

Hold on. If they have a live shot camera from the top of their building capturing the world trade center early in the morning, does it not stand to reason they would have captured footage of the first plane hitting? That live camera dhould have captured the entire event
Probably, unless it's not a web cam
No One Could've Predicted What Would Happen In 2.5 Hours.........

All you had to say was, "Not right now!"
at 0:11 the flash of light through the towers? the media is twisted please believe me we live in a SICK world
Possibly the most nightmare inducing moment in one's life to see this would probably be when you have no idea what death is. Then, right after you learn, you remember this and then... That melody... It becomes associated with horror.
Jack Cafferty was well-known on NYC television, namely as Sue Simmons' co-anchor on Live at Five during the 1980s.
3:53 😨😰😱
Who sank the USS Liberty?
The same people who did this ✡️
How did that camera not capture flight 11
Who was around during 9/11 and was looking through all the channels? Luckily, I wasn't around during that time because I was born in 2006. That's 5 years after it happened!
@SCP_BrightAlt You're right. All the local station airwaves were transmitted from the North Twin Tower. All of the free over-the-air channels were down from NBC 4 to WPIX 11 that day. The only channel that was broadcast that day was CBS 2 because it's transmits from the Empire State Building. Those New Yorkers who didn't have cable or satellite TV were out of luck for weeks, with CBS 2 being the only channel available.
@SCP_BrightAlt Satilite TV was a lot more available than you think. 🤔 🤔🤔 I don't think the smoke coverage at ground zero affected the whole city. Maybe around lower Manhattan, it would've possibly interrupted the signals in that isolated area, but most definitely, a severe thunderstorm with a lot of cloud coverage does disrupt the satellite TV signal.
So sad seeing how this started off as any other day. 😢 Little did anybody know that this would become one of the darkest days this world had ever seen. May all the innocent people who passed away that day Rest In Peace.
0:12 "Coming up next at the auction!" Me: Forget it, lady! I'd rather see that flower!
Which QVC host announced that you should turn the channel to local news?
It's kinda nice that Viacom and Disney knew about the attacks and decided not to tell kids about the attacks, so they kept airing kids shows.
I'm not blaming them!
Cartoon Network and PBS also
@@taydrabrookshire347 Actually, there was an announcement that Between the Lions and Nightly Business Report (the latter not being a show for kids) would not show that day.
Too many kids saw the attack live on tv!
@@kawaibakaneko but not on children's networks
