Thrift Haul Vintage Décor from Value Village - Found Something I've Wanted Nearly my Whole Life
Hi! Here are some things I found recently at the Value Village Thrift Store in Toronto, Canada. I have two favourites within the haul, including something I saw as a child that I've always wanted. A "Happy New Year" Vignette - Mostly Vintage and Thrifted Décor
Просмотров 61Год назад
Hello! Here's a vignette to celebrate the coming of a new year. It is made up of mostly vintage items found at the thrift store and on Ebay. The mirrored bell ornaments were found in the 90s at Honest Ed's in Toronto (if you are here, you'll remember this gem of a store that, sadly, is no more). There's also a new piece included - a sparkly "Happy New Year" tiara that I got at Dollarama last we...

Hello! Here's a tiered tray decorated for Christmas. Since it's in our kitchen, the theme is a cooking one I've tried to make something that might be found in Santa's Bakery. All of the elements are vintage or thrifted, with the exception of a couple of things. The tray itself was found at HomeSense last summer. 🇨🇦 Canada Day Rustic Patio Decor : Thrift Store and Ebay Vintage Finds
All your pumpkins look great! I also really love your leaf banner! I crochet so I can make those. Thank you for your tutorial!
What kind of screwdriver did you use to poke the holes in the paper?
Hi. It's an awl, a tool especially meant to make holes in things like leather. I got mine at the sewing store.
What a great haul! My favourite is the squirrel card and the vintage wrapping paper! I can't believe that you didn't have to pay for it! I get so excited watching people show their hauls, it is second only to my own!
So pretty and inspiring. Makes me want to unpack my treasures and do some decorating! One question: why are the books lined up with the spines inward, instead of outward so you can read the titles? As a book lover, that seems to lack sense.
Hi there. Thanks for watching! I, too, am a book lover and have many of them all over my home. The ones in that video were all written by a relative and were being stored in that cabinet to keep them safe. The dust jackets were very busy and colourful, so I flipped them so as not to be distracting to the items being shown in the video. They’ve since been moved to a proper book shelf, with the spines on full display!
@@LoulouVintageHome OK, awesome! So enjoyed looking at your treasures.
Cool finds Loulou! Watching your videos makes me want to run out to Value Village myself!
Thanks, Pam. There’s nothing like that feeling of anticipation as you go through the doors! I’m kind of glad our VV is not too close to home! They did just open a “VV Boutique” within walking distance but it sells only clothes and accessories. No housewares so my limited storage space is safe!
Fun haul!
Hi Leslie! Thank you. I’m happy you liked it.
I love finding wooden spools ❤
Hi Thrifty Chic! I was happy to find them. I saw a great way to display them on Instagram the other day - the person had put a bunch of them inside a vintage gum ball machine. It looked so cute. Now, it will be a while until I find one of those, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled. Thanks for watching! ❤️
Right away, I love the shirt!!! You found some great things! I love the Oneida stainless flatware. The napkins look like an April Cornell type pattern, or Pierre Deux, maybe. How cute! The eyeglass holder is sweet!
Hi Justine. Thank you! I’m glad you like what I found 😀. Thanks for the info on the napkins.
Thank you...
Hi. You’re welcome!
I love it ! It looks so good . Happy New Years 🎉
Thank you! I’m happy you like it. Happy New Year to you, too!
Nice job! I really enjoyed the video, happy new year to you and yours!
Hi Pam! Thank you. I’m glad you like it. Wishing a happy new year to you, too.
Happy New Year! Your decore looks gorgeous! I love how you add piece by piece!
Hi Justine. Thank you. Happy New Year to you, too! ⛄️
All around so very well done! Great pace, great commentary, great visuals and perfect musical accompaniment that doesn't shatter my brain. Very well done. Greetings from Parklawn at Queensway!
Hi Annemarie. Thank you for this kind and encouraging comment. Please know that you brightened someone’s day today!
Just a tip for you if you are going to hank them close to the wall like that buy some of those little felt pads for the bottom of furniture and stick them to the wall behind them. It'll protect then from banging into the wall and cracking if somebody accidentally passes by and knocks into them.
That’s a good idea. Thank you!
I have thousands of beautiful ornaments but I want to find a way to store them. Acit in toilet paper and all kinds of paper will eat away at the finish leaving discolored areas. I wanted to build a case to just hank all of them in when they arnt being used.
Wow, thousands of them! Must be a lovely display.
I like it 🎄.
Hi Marisol 🎄 Thank you!
LL: can you & hub share the pudding recipe?
Thanks for your interest, Mair. Yes, we’ll post the recipe on my blog and I’ll let you know when it’s up. The recipe was developed by Nick’s ancestors in England over 100 years ago. You add a splash of brandy before serving and set it on fire! Then you serve it with a dollop of brandy butter. It’s quite special!
Hi Mair. 🎄 The recipe for the Christmas Plum Pudding is here www.loulou.to/recipes/cookies-and-desserts/christmas-plum-pudding/
Meanwhile in Toronto...
👋 Hi Mair!
LL you sure found an interesting assortment 🎄 !
Hi Mair 🎄Thank you!
The turquoise Pyrex! Love, love, love it!💙
Hi Mair 🧚 Thank you! If you also love delphite blue, I have a few pieces that will be displayed in an upcoming video. Wishing you a good weekend.
Love all the ideas I got from this video! I especially love your branch wall hanging with the chandelier crystals on it. What a great idea to use for whatever the holiday or season!
Hi Pam 💕 Thank you! I’m glad you like it. Your comment got me wondering about how old that wall hanging is so I looked on my blog and was surprised to see that I made it a decade ago. And, since it’s nearly impossible to store, it’s been hanging on a wall around here that whole time, sometimes decorated for whatever season it is and sometimes just with those crystals on it. I linked the specific tutorial for it down below for you or whoever else is interested in making one.
@@LoulouVintageHome Thank you Loulou!😉
Hi Doriii 💕 Thank you. I forgot to mention in the video, and didn’t realize until it was too late, that the large ornaments were made in Germany. I’ve never been but my husband spent his childhood years living there (his father was in the military) and he says Christmastime is simply magical there. One day I hope to see it for myself. I’m curious if people even had artificial Christmas trees in the 50s and 60s in Germany? With fond regards.
Corelle made before 2005 should be display only, due to lead levels is the paint decorations. It pained me to trash my set but... now I've got some nice Winter White Frost lead free.
Yes, I’ve heard that about any vintage dishes that have a painted pattern on them, but I believe there is more of a concern over dishes made before the 70s, when rules about lead levels were put in place. Still, we only use the painted ones very occasionally and when we do, we don’t put food on the painted part. Our everyday dishes are plain white ones. A little boring but completely safe!
I 💗 restaurantware! Yes I collect it🙂
I love it, too!
Me in Wisconsin: I say Kahbeck (quebec) and people look at me strange. Oh well
Haha … you say toMAYto, I say toMAHto 😆 . Thank you for watching!
I wish we could get such lovely vintage items in our UK charity shops.
Hi Karen. Thank you for watching. If it helps, the vast majority of Christmas items at our thrift stores are modern day things that people didn’t find worthy of keeping in their own collections. To put it bluntly, there is a lot of crap to sift through! I really have to hunt for the nice vintage items and the few pieces in the video took me a whole year of visits to find. Good luck with your own search for the good stuff!
I LOVE how you displayed all the vintage gift tags. I am so copying your ideas.
Hi Christy! Thank you. I glad to have helped you figure out how to display your treasures!
I was hoping the sleigh was a punch bowl.
That would have been awesome!
I love how you decorated.
… and I love that you told me so! Thank you 🌼
Such attention to detail. I enjoyed it all. Overall a very calming style. I always start out fairly neutral but have to add red. You have so many similar collections to mine. I collect squirrels, cardinals and deer. I have blue glass but don't put it out in winter. I should, but by the time I switch from summer to fall to Thanksgiving to Halloween, it is time fof the reds. There are too many seasons. I am always behind. I love how you put all star things together including the stickers. I like to display old stickers too. I love the syrup can. I always use to buy the syrup when I visited my friend in Toronto but I never saved the tin. Now they make maple mints in a tiny tin with that picture on it, so I display those. They are kind of like a tiktac tin but are metal. I love all the sparkles and silver. Such a relaxing place to enjoy with a cup of tea.
Hi Betty 🌼 Thank you. I’m happy you’re enjoying my videos. It’s so neat that we share an interest in collecting many of the same things. One of my favourite thrift store finds ever was the ceramic deer figurine seen in this video. I was so excited to spot him/her on the shelf, in perfect condition. I’m with you regarding not being able to keep up with decorating for all the seasons. I usually miss (Canadian) Thanksgiving, mostly because it’s often still quite warm here when it suddenly arrives, (What, Thanksgiving is next week?! haha), although I did do a little something this year. As for this winter decor, I wait until the coldest winter months, January and February, to display it, paused by some Valentine’s, of course! I like the calm blues after the riotous colours of Christmas (not complaining about the colours, though!). Wishing you a good week.
Just found you today. Just subscribed. Greetings from Montana.
Hi Barb 🌻 Thank you. It’s great to meet you!
I think you are a kindred spirit. I live in Regina and we have value village and 2 salvation armies . I use white corelle too and have the Christmas set. I bought it at the Corning outlet near Frankenmuth Michigan in the 80s I think. I also have some small corelle plates in a different Christmas pattern. I think it is just pine or holly around the rims. I also have a cake plate and teacup and saucer that matches your trivet of the bridge and skaters. I just love that scene. I think your kitty set is so cute. I think it is similar in style as homco. I remember when schools had fundraisers of bells of the cute animals. Your displays are wonderful. We have a ton of blue mountain pottery here, in several colors. Back in the day it was a prized item. Now it seems people either love it or hate it. I am happy to have found your channel.
Hi Betty! How nice to meet you. 🌻 Thank you for watching and leaving this comment. I love that you got your Christmas dishes at the Corning outlet. I’m sure that must have been a cool place to visit in the 80s, seeing all those old patterns in their mint condition. I’d have to admit that my collection of vintage Corelle is probably the one that I have more than I’ll be able to use, but I can’t resist when I see a nice piece at the VV. I have fantasy dinner parties in my head using all the variations, lol. I am also so interested to hear that that beautiful skating scene came on different pieces. Now, I have something else to look for! With kind regards, Loulou
Your crocheted garland is so pretty!
Hi Beverly 🌻 Thank you! It’s so nice of you to say. It’s still hanging in that same spot and I was just looking at it today, thinking that maybe I’ll change it out for Christmas. Or, maybe not! Do you crochet? If so, I can give you links to the tutorials for the garland and the wreath.
Beautiful! Loved this video thanks ❤ Louise and Emily ❤

Hi Linda. Aren’t they cute?! They’re definitely on my wish list but they’re currently for sale on Ebay for $270 + shipping, and that’s beyond my budget. Would sure love to find a set at the thrift store! Thanks for watching.

Thank you, Doriii. 🍂🌻 I loved hearing about the glass fronted cabinet in your past! I’m glad my video stirred up old good memories for you.
Hallo!

Hi Kelley! You’re so sweet. Thank you. I’m glad you like it. It’s online friends like you who keep me doing what I do!
I just finished about 40 fabric pumpkins and after 2 yrs of making then. I have found not to make it hard on yourself. I don't measure anymore. I can just look at the fabric and cut. I can cut a perfect circle without a pattern. It really doesnot matter because they come out just as cute.
Wow, 40 pumpkins! They must look great. Yes, like in nature, fabric pumpkins come in all sizes so exact measurements are not that important.
Hey stranger! I finally had some time to open an email and I picked yours. I'm glad I did, I loved your video and noticed there are many more that I have missed out on. I hope to catch up soon! Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi Pam! Hope you’re doing well. I’m so glad you loved my video. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too! 🍁🌻

a rectangle shaped piece that is approximately twice as wide as it is high, for a roundish shaped pumpkin. For mine, I used about 16 inches x 8 inches. For a stubbier pumpkin reduce the height by an inch or two. The measurements don’t have to be exact.
