      @@steveburchfield5576 That's true; he used a Standel in the early days until it broke down. It couldn't be repaired because the circuits were of an unorthodox modular design. He used an orange Roland Cube 60 for a very long time, likely beginning in the mid-to-late '70s, until that wore out. He then used an Evans, which I saw him use in '97, but it never could give him his trademark warm sound.

    • @zenobardot
      @zenobardot 3 года назад

      I've read for years he used 11's, but towards the end of his career, went down to 10's because time takes its toll. Like Bill Frisell, he was just a wizard of knowing exactly where to pick or pluck, and with exactly how much force. Most pros are pretty good at this, but some like Joe Pass are just playing so much that they can't give that kind of care to every note. Bickert is of the BIll Evans school, more interested in creating a mood with his touch.

  • @zenobardot
    @zenobardot 5 лет назад

    "Oh the broom closet isn't available? Okay, I'll just set up here behind the vibes and the bass player." --Ed Bickert. Love Ed wearing the shades. This is Rob McConnell's Jive Five of course, and McConnell used Bickert on sessions and gigs from the the late 1960s (maybe even earlier) to the late 1990s. I think one of the last studio records Bickert made was a Christmas album with McConnell's Boss Brass. Jerry Fuller and Ed were 2/3 of Paul Desmond's "Toronto Quartet", along with Don Thompson.
