What is the ambient temperature where you are?

Usually you want one watt per litre so 100 gallons is about 380 L but if you live in a very cold area you may need two 300W heaters to be able to heat it up. I would suspect it’s just too cold for that heater to be able to heat the volume of water up. I grew up in a super cold climate in New Zealand and we had to double up on the wattage so 2 W per litre depending on the ambient temperature if it was below 10°C.( 50°F.) we would use double the amount of heating to be able to heat the tank.

@@paulstingray right now it's 5 to 10 degrees I'm in Ontario. I have a garage stock tank. Water temp is just 1-2 degrees higher in the tank. Heaters left on at max temp in correct position with light on yet temp doesn't move up a single degree doesn't make sense

@goylanddefree80 it sounds like you will need a higher wattage to heat the water up. Try putting two 300w heaters in and see what it heats the tank up to

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for clarifying, I hear a lot of people insist that their scalare are altums because “that’s what they sold us” so it’s nice to see when somebody actually drops the species name rather than stick to market names.

True altums are definitely easy to tell for people into fish.

@@paulstingray I think the Nanay silvers in particular do look kinda like altums with those high sloped heads but most altums are pretty cut and dry, yeah.

@Nemesis0513 when I get back into discus I definitely want to get the true Aultums again.

I’ve heard a few people have spawned them in shallow planted tanks I’ll probably setup a false bottom

@@paulstingray I think its just a standard freshwater eel. I ran into one recently on a holiday and it was just named Freshwater Eel. Definitely not a moray or anything super exotic.

Most will completely settle down. There’s two types of bites. This is a defence bite because he didn’t like me talking in his face. The other type of bite is a food response bite so as long as they’re not hungry and they’re used to you they’re gonna stop biting.
