We built a shower into an existing half bath to make it a full bathroom. We extended the walls into the hallway foyer and moved plumbing and electrical to accomodate the new walls and shower. We installed a new sink and medicine cabinet with mirror. There was some drywall finishing and painting involved as well. We built a custom walk-in tub for this customer to make her bathroom safer and more accessible for her. Her old tub was sunken in the floor with dangerous steps. We ended up laying mosaic tile in the floor void where her old tile was.
DIY Unclogging: How to Clear a Clogged Shower Drain in 5 Easy Steps

Are you struggling with a clogged shower drain? You don't have to call a plumber or buy expensive chemical cleaners. In this video, you'll learn the easiest way to unclog your shower drain without any special tools or knowledge. We'll show you fast and simple DIY tips and tricks to get your shower drain flowing again in no time. Here I’ll provide a detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to ...
Get rid of that irritating music.
I've done this a few times over the past few weeks and I'm still having issues draining my shower. I don't know what else to do.
Use a snake from Ace, True Value, Home Depot, Menards, Lowes. The auger that you got hold in 1 hand & spin with the other hand.
I was about to give up when I decided to try the plunger technique....it worked in seconds 🙏 thank you!
Thank for the great tips!!! Ok, Is it me or does Jeremy look like a young version of Bill Cowher???!!! I know I’m partial because I’m a Steelers fan and live in the Pittsburgh area but this guy really looks like a young version of Bill Cowher!!😂🤣😂😂😂😂🤣
BathNow, thanks for this. Unfortunately I may have to call a _od dam_ed plumber. Still a great video.
That shower was definitely not constructed correctly. Whats the point of a waterproof rubber membrane if you’re going to put nails through it? They have nothing to help prevent weep holes being clogged on the clamp ring drain. They have no pre slope under the membrane, it isn’t wrapped up the wall nearly high enough. A shower waterproofed correctly will never do this. It is much easier to achieve nowadays with the modern waterproofing membranes like the schluter systems or go board products just to name a few, but this was just done incorrectly altogether. It doesn’t even appear that they had any waterproofing on the walls.
All too common unfortunately.
That's gross! Where is the damn gloves? 🙄
Plunger worked great after about 5 minutes of diligent work
Please lower the music so we can hear you
Off to plunger, and if no help, the plumber, I'm in a condo, yikes
I use that first one on my bathroom sinks, prevents me from removing the stopper because I never gets those back in correctly
Mine has no screws
How much baking soda?
Great, calming delivery. Well done!
In what ratio do you mix hot water, baking soda and vinegar? And what strength vinegar?
Doesn’t have to be exact, but i would use about a half cup of peroxide with 2 tablespoons of baking soda, then fill the rest to a half gallon with very hot water.
Hey - good job and I like your delivery - not boring and dull! And quick!
Thanks!
If you drop that toothbrush you've got a new problem.
Thanks
I have a shower that I haven’t used for a while and am now noticing it drains slowly. I do notice that there is some scaling around the drain. Does that happen inside pipes as well?
Yes it’s possible, especially with metal drain lines like galvanized. But if the shower is not in use, i wouldn’t think there would be much change going on in the drain.
thanks dude.
Plunger. Stop working so hard
What is the amount of baking soda, peroxide, & water ratio?, if you don't mind?
Doesn’t have to be exact, but i would use about a half cup of peroxide with 2 tablespoons of baking soda, then fill the rest to a half gallon with very hot water.
@BathNow thank you, I will try, this.
How do I clear a 90 degree angle shower drain?
Try a drain weasel or drain snake
How long am I’m letting the hot water , baking soda and vinegar sit for ?
Let it sit for a few minutes. Between 3-5min minimum. But you could repeat this a few times and leave it for much longer if needed. All depends on how bad the blockage is. If the hot water solution is breaking down a blockage, the baking soda & peroxide (or any other drain cleaner solution) will need to eat away at the stuff in there.
Thanks so much!
Wait, so what kinda showers are recommended??? In the end of video I think I heard quickly acrylic or laminate? I just recently went through water damage in my home & definitely don’t want to experience that again, ever. But would like to upgrade my showers.
At BathNow, we only build acrylic or laminate showers. Our baths & showers have a watertight wall system, and will not ever leak. Won’t ever crack. We are based in the SouthEast (USA), but there are other companies i could recommend around the US. In my opinion, tile is hard to keep clean and is porous. Fiberglass can crack, & will inevitably dull over time.
It would be helpful to know how much of each item to use. Thanks for a good video though.
Doesn’t have to be exact, but i would use about a half cup of peroxide with 2 tablespoons of baking soda, then fill the rest to a half gallon with very hot water.
K. How much water how much baking soda how much peroxide
Doesn’t have to be exact, but i would use about a half cup of peroxide with 2 tablespoons of baking soda, then fill the rest to a half gallon with very hot water.
Thank You!
Thank you! I just unclogged my own shower. Plunger did the job 😁
I'm dealing right now as we speak I have tried vinger and dawn dish liquid with hot boiling water, I have tried salt and water boiling water and peroxide and baking soda I am getting very frustrated what do I do I have tried the wirer hanger I'm out of options
Sounds like a serious clog. You could try a drain snake. A snake will go very far into the drain if needed, and you can rotate/ram at the blockage to try to move it.
Also, if it happens to be on the first floor of a crawl space, someone could go under the house and replace part of the drain if the blockage is located.
Thanks. Now I just need to drain my right ear.
Ear wax remover from your local walmart, works like a charm, you will hear the neighbors whispering
So we have a really old shower drain cover and the previous people in the apartment have destroyed the screws so we cannot open the drain and the holes are too smaller for all of the barbed brushes and debris removers I've tried. We also tried a bunch of different volume plungers and they have helped a little but the drain is still draining very slowly. Do you have any tips about the best non-invasive or chemical cleaners to unclog blocked drains?
There are tools like “Speed Out” stripped screw removers that you can use to get the screws out. Otherwise, the best non-invasive chemicals are baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
Any recommendations for getting sand out of the shower drain, was hand washing a wet suit and now my drains slowly draining 🙏🏾
Only thing i can think of is that maybe a lot of sand is stuck in the bottom of the p-trap. If your bathroom is on the first floor of a home, then i would go underneath and cut out the p-trap and replace it. If it’s on the 2nd floor, you could always cut a hole into the ceiling and fix it there. But if the drain is in a commercial building or in concrete, i’d try shooting high pressure in the drain. They make high pressure toilet plungers that shoot compressed air in the drain. Maybe that would shoot the sand out.
Will a high pressure plundger cause any damage? I live on the 2nd floor
@@jeanetteibrahim They shouldn’t damage anything, that’s what they’re made for. With that being said, there’s always the possibility of something going wrong.
I unclog my drain pipes and sewer pipes with a garden hose run it through an open window connected to your outdoor faucet and put in the drain or sewer pipe start at a low flow and gradually increase the flow of water run it for 10 minutes or more in your drain pipes up to an hour in your sewer pipes this is a great way to prevent a major blockage from happening my father taught me this when I was a boy I have cleaned out slow drain and even some major blockages in the sewer line but that requires feeding the garden hose into the sewer line and keep going as far as you can feed it
I live in an older home and my drain pipe is shaped like a L it’s very hard to clean.
Mines not working and water is backing up help meeeee
Thank you I have an old drain from 1960 but I think it's kinda the septic tank thing But also I was able to clear out a lot It does have some maybe mineral or calcification on the sides but not much Probably hasn't been cleaned in decades So thank you! Saved on having to call a plumber!
He is a professional, I am sure he knows what he needs for safety and cleanup.
Why would you let your shower drain or basin get into that state in the first place?
It happens out of nowhere
@@babewhowalks No it doesn't, if it is cleaned at least once a week it won't get into that state.
Why dont you used glove is dirty carry germ great you show but not healthy enough sure your finger stuck with some germ because the drain carry germ 😮
I do this at least once a month when I'm in the shower by sitting on the floor. I have a set of those special tools and even hemostats for pulling out the long hairs that get past my tiny hole strainer. I hate the gunk buildup so use a toothbrush and cleaner to get that cleaned out and on the strainer too, it's easier than a rag or sponge.
You can do it once a year, if you like. That was months or years of junk he cleaned. My sink tend to clog up and I clean the pipes out with towels every 6 months to a year. My shower, I've only had to clean it out once, since moving in, in 2015. it was about a year and a half ago.
@@frommatorav1 to be fair the frequency of cleaning really depends on the length of ur head hair, how quickly you tend to get dirty/how often you clean, and how big ur pipes are. chances are, u have short hair for it to build up so slowly
@@sodotta I would agree that there are variables. My current shower has the big pipe, like the one in the video. When we had a narrow pipe, cleaning would have to be done much more frequently, about every 3-6 months.
The title should read unclogging and cleaning of shower drain
Music is too loud and dostracting.
You got to be joking😊😊😊
GOOD SHOW, THANK YOU.
Ive used commercial stuff like Draino- etc. tried the home made stuff like baking soda- salt, etc.. Can't get the top off-- the grout etc. from the tile is covering it partially. It drains but VERY slowly--
My formula is Drano. It works all the time 100%
Gonna mess ur septic tank up watch out
I remove hair and blockage then pour in sodium hydroxide crystals. After one hour pour in a bucketful of water. All the showers I know of have a U-tube (=siphon in French) a few inches below the grille so no need to unblock further than that.
Thanks" for taking the time to help others, and sharing your skills, and experience with us. That my friend, is a Very commendable, God given trait !!!
Appreciate the kinds words! We’ll have more videos coming out soon. Been so busy building showers lately!
